and I saw flags all around sandcastle suites, they might be expanding the hotel or something.
They flags probably are there because they applied a lawn care chemical.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Or else it's markers for the secret hatches that lead to the underground compartment where they're storing their new roller coaster track for next year!

About DT... whoever rode the ride as avalanche run or worked there and saw it, was it nice looking by any chance?
Just curious...
I thought Walt had a couple photos from that era somewhere on here, but I can't seem to find them. I'm pretty sure if you dig around here you'll find them though.

^^considering the time the ride was built, it did have an older look with the swiss architecture/exterior paint scheme for the station house. The trough was white on the interior and a "sky" blue on the exterior.
Regardless it looked a lot better than the current structure that houses the ride now.

Almost all of the pics on rcdb are of when it was Avalanche Run.

I agree with a lot of the things people have said on this already 5 page thread, and disagree with other things.
The first thing I want to comment on is this whole Disaster Transport thing. I hadn't been on it in a while, but wanted to get on it this year to see what all the fuss was about. My thinking on the ride: it's fine. Yes, the queue is a bit cheesy in parts, and could use some money. The initial room with the pictures from around the world could use some sprucing up, along with the corridor with the hand prints. The room right before the stairs would look better if the childish carpeting was gone. But other than that, the queue is actually really cool. The entrance, ride exterior, and the corridor after the entrance all looks nice, and has some nice themeing. The big queue room with the boxes overhead and the car behind the gate is great in my opinion, and definitely the best CP has to offer. The stairs going up to the station, and the station itself are also well themed. Spending a few hundred thousand dollars even just to fix up a few areas in the queue would make it a very well themed line in my opinion.
The ride itself is perfectly fine and well themed. The lift hill with all the lights is great and is all still working, the large room with all the space themeing is still working and looks quite nice, and the rest of the ride still seems to have a nice amount of themeing. The ride itself is also nice and is perfect for younger children, or people that don't want a terrifying coaster.
I was with a group of people that visit a lot of amusement parks, but don't visit CP that much, and all of them thought the ride was cool too. No it isn't a new Disney attraction, but the ride is perfectly fine, and borders on a really cool ride.

So onto 2008. I think the park needs to take some time spending money on renovations. The park is great, but certainly some areas could still use some sprucing up. Look at what the maXair rennovation did for that area. An older, dead area was turned into a great and new looking area with a small amount of money.
The main midway could really used some refreshing. New lamp posts, new benches, new trees and landscaping, maybe some new fountains, etc, could go a long way in making the front of the park look a little better. Demon Drop's removal could allow for a larger and nicer looking entrance with more shops and such.
The Gemini midway could also use some help with a new concrete pathway, new flower beds and trees, etc. The area is just starting to look "old".
The kiddy areas could also use some rennovation, as the Nick ones are amazing at all the Paramount Parks. If they could introduce the same area into CP or other CF parks, it would be great.
Soak City is in desperate need for rennovation. The place has no landscaping, no themeing, no color or atmosphere, and no new attractions. The water park is no where near what common SF water parks are, and as we can see with WWK, we know CF can do better.
There are a lot of other things that could be done throughout the park too. MF, TTD could be painted. Raptor could be painted, and it would be nice to see a the queue made to look a bit more attractive, TTD could use some new fencing around the ride and some queue improvements with fixed misters, etc. I truly hope CF puts aside some money just to fix up the park, as that really needs to be done every so often to keep it looking great for years to come.
As for new rides, I'd love to see a B&M floorless or flyer come into the park, but can't see it happening anytime soon. A dark ride would be quite nice. The park could also use a great family attraction that is beyond a typical flat. I'd really like to see a Huss Giant Top Spin like Riptide at Valleyfair and Knott's. It would be a cool flat, and would also serve as a water ride which the park really needs.
Thrills Around the Corner!
I rode an AWESOME flat ride at Canada's Wonderland. It was called "Sledgehammer". That is my new favorite flat ride!
Granted, it's not really for little kids, but I'd take that over Skyhawk or even Maxair any day.
If they're thinking family rides, the "Scooby Doo Haunted Mansion" was soooo cute!!! I rode the one at KI with my (older) kids and we had a blast!
Honestly though, they really need a good old fashioned flume ride. Not everyone wants to get totally drenched on the Thunder or Snake.
I rode Sledgehammer for the first time a couple of weeks ago after wanting to ride it since it debuted. I always thought it was a really cool looking ride. It was actually one of the main factors that drew me back to the park. After riding it though I was very disappointed. It wasn't all that thrilling. It looks a lot more fun than it was. In terms of flat rides, I prefer Skyhawk and maXair.

Ok, after looking up a Topple Tower and seeing what it is, I do not think Cedar Point will put one in. It looks too similiar to Maxair.
Giant Top Spin...I looked that one up, too. I first rode one of those 5 years ago at Worlds of Fun, and then at Dorney Park, and still riding it when I go to Geauga, although Geauga doesn't have the water spraying on you. That's a fun one, although I don't know what kind of crowd it would draw since you have to be taller than 48". (What I am saying is, is that it isn't really a "family ride").
I thought GL's was a regular Top Spin and Tomb Raider:The Ride was the only "Giant" top spin. I could be wrong.
Shows arent Cps thing unless there musical types. I wouldnt mind a action packed show. Maybe one like The terminator ride except newer. Im not a big fan of musicals.
Let's Get Weird.
The thing with stunt shows is that they're usually themed to the area that they're in. I don't know what they would theme it to in that area. Also, I'd much rather they just ripped out the stadium for a new ride. ;)

With everything going on with the cf budget in general, I would have to agree with all those who are saying that cp will take a year off from adding any new attractions. I think they will end up making only minor adjustments such as a new paint job on mf or ttd. However, I do think they might plan on starting a new construction in the 09' or 10' season depending on how soon their budget settles out with the newly purchased parks. The one type of ride the park is lacking is a great woodie. The park needs a gravity group coaster. They build great rides and in my opinion would complete the park. Who knows what the park will actually do though. This is just my own opinion of what they should do when the time arises for a new ride to be installed
I would guess CP would go with a GCI woodie--IF they go with wood. Voyage had to have how many hundred feet retracked after its first year? My guess is CF is looking at the maintenance costs of Renegade at VF and that will determine if CF builds another woodie.
As someone posted earlier, modern woodies are so tall, fast & heavy they tear themselves apart. With CF's devotion to ROI, maintenance expense is not an unimportant factor in the wood vs steel decision. We may have to accept the fact that wood much above 100 feet is not economical. If HW is braking Voyage (supposedly the only way they can get it open on time) they may have already come to that conclusion. *** Edited 8/16/2007 12:47:25 AM UTC by Captain Hawkeye***
This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!
Then why go much over 100 feet? You can do plenty of things in and around the 100 foot mark. IF they were to do a coaster on the beach in place of the Aquatic Stadium and DT one day down the road, I don't think I would want it to be very tall, because it would take away from the already beautiful location.
