2008 Watch

Well, the majority of comments I've seen on here is that Soak City's main draw is from the on-property resorts. Without working for the park and seeing these numbers, I can only assume that's true - or at least partially true. I gather a large portion of the cars in that lot are people who want to get to the back of the park quickly and enter through the Magnum gate. So, those are not Soak City guests.

There would then be some need to provide parking for Soak City. But, if the lot were eliminated, you could easily come up with some kind of transport system for those guests. It could be as simple as enhancing the current shuttle service to include SC-only guests. But, in reality, I'm not sure how many of those people exist.

If the lot is to stay, at least put some trees in it. I can see not putting trees in the main lot, but in the "resort" section of the park, they could do better than acres of asphalt with no trees. Check out the resort parking lots at any Disney property. There's a formula on how many trees go into their lots per each parking space. :)

edit: Mike, when you're doing a parking lot, you have LOTS of costs that you don't for a residential driveway. You have engineers, site grading, drainage, paving, striping, lighting, labor, etc... *** Edited 10/5/2007 7:50:10 PM UTC by halltd***

Still, that seems a little on the rather crazy side of reasonable costs, at least to me.

So according to the numbers Doug gave, and taking a wild guess that there are about 200 parking spaces in the employee parking area, it would cost about $7 million for a brand new, two level parking structure with 400 parking spaces...but you said that it would be cheaper if you were adding a level over the existing lot...that is more along the lines of what I was thinking, though it would probably look better if it was a brand new parking structure.

So it sounds to me that something like this would be more of a long term/slow growth project that would be done in stages considering the costs instead of an immediate project. *** Edited 10/5/2007 8:03:58 PM UTC by BlueStreak64***

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

^ It would look better if it was off-site and there was no parking structure at all. :)

I don't think a two level structure would look all that bad, especially if designed well. Make it a little more colorful by throwing up some of the ride logos and other decorations (I can imagine how crazy they could go for July 4th and Halloweekends) on the sides and I think it wouldn't look bad at all. Now, throw up one of those plain-jane, ugly structures that can be found at many airports, and yes, I would be opposed to that sitting on the peninsula.

I've only seen a select few parking structures in the entire world that actually look nice - or not like a parking structure. You can dress it up some, but it still looks like a concrete parking deck. LOL!! Also, making a parking structure look nice just adds to the cost and we all know what that means concerning CP. Extra cost = no good. So, let's just hope they never build one.

There was a real possibility of a one deck structure in front of Breakers when the Tower went up but they held off.

Here in South Florida the first IKEA store in Florida is getting ready to open up in a couple of weeks. They have a pretty large one story deck in front of that store, and there is another at a Home Depot down in Ft Lauderdale.

As land gets more expensive and more scarce I think you will see a lot more of this.

The Target in Deerfield has one too. :vomit: :)

Hey, nothing wrong with Tar-zhay.

Not Target - the deck.

I was at the Point tonight watching the Indians, and I was standing by the General Manager John; watching the Game. I was asking him questions about the different things what was is coming to the Point 2008. He told me the Stadium isn't gonna be Demoished, Snoopy won't be leaving, and the Demon Drop will be staying at it's same spot. He probably doesn't want me to know about many things. When I would ask questions to other employees or some other people in the Park; there are many different answers each time I'm there.

I guess everyone will have to stay back, and wait till the Park opens up in 2008 or during the Winter Season. That is my guess.

Yeah...aquatic stadium won't be demolished.....this month at least. I also think peanuts playground should go too.

Man all this year I have wanted to atleast say hi to somebody like Dick K. or John Hill. but I can never find them. I dont even want to bug them with stupid questions I would just like to say Hi and thank them for all the good things at CP.

Let's Get Weird.

Ya. They do such a great job! I would have liked to thank at least someone for such a fine park.

I met Dick around the Maverick on the bridge and he was with some guy in a suit as well who he said makes all the cedar fair parks run (or something like such). He was a bigger guy.

I just told him I thought the TTD was a great business investment, and he replied "yeah, when it's running".

What else ya going to say to him? "Wheres that 500 footer?", "Disaster Transport is a disaster"

Haha...

DT's theming has seen better days (obviously), but I still don't consider it a total disaster.

And a 500 foot coster would probably require elevator shafts for the trains to go up on. Either that or find some clever way to go up a vertical 500 foot lift hill (please submit ideas to someone other than Intamin, plz).

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I haven't had time to keep up with this thread. I got an e-mail from CP about buying a season pass and it said:

Four discount funday tickets to Cedar Point: $130.96
Overnight stay at Breakers Express: $70
Riding rides the size of skyscrapers while "legally" breaking the local speed limit: Priceless

I agree, the ride has so much potential. I mean it's a great, fun ride, the theming is just kind of blah.

I didn't think Disaster Transport was anything special... there are so many indoor rollercoasters that are better than it. Space Mountain, Rockin Rollercoaster, that one at Kings Dominion (I don't remember the name). I think that DT should be torn down to make room for a new, better, ride. Not necissarily a rollercoaster, but a good thrill ride would be nice.

^That's the problem though, why do people want it torn down? I mean I find the ride itself really fun and thrilling. If the theming was better I'm sure you all would love the ride.
