I havent said anything for a while so Im going to spill my guts.

Snoopy is awsome and fun. Its a proven fact that everytime somebody whatches Spongebob their IQ points lower a little. (Im not making it up) I think its just stupid if they get Nick. Yes kids will like it.... Yes It will be more of a family park but... IDk nevermind

Let's Get Weird.

I don't agree that by just changing characters the park is more of a family park.

Right, but charm and soul aren't the point, profits are, right? I don't know what CP's marketing data is telling them, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that people don't go to a park becuase of the themeing (except for Disney and Universal, of course, and maybe Hershey Park), the themeing drives profits, though, in terms of merchandising. If I were a CP exec and had a choice between having a bunch of adults smile with nostalgia every time they walk through Camp Snoopy with thier 4 year old, or have the 4 year old scream with joy and drag thier parent into a Dora the Explorer themed gift shop, I'd choose the latter. Nick has a huge marketing engine- go in any Target and see all the tons of Nick branded stuff, and tell me why CP wouldn't want to capitalize on an engine that's driving profits, rather than one that while sweet and nostalgic, doesn't excite kids anymore.

Cost.

They got 4-year(?) license on the Nick stuff as part of the Paramount deal. My best guess at the time (and still is) was that they got the license to avoid having to strip the themes right away. I'm not sure what the cost will be to renew that license vs. renewing the Peanuts license, but I would imagine it would be quite a bit higher. Whether the profits from merchandise outweigh that cost enough to make it a viable option is a decision they would have to make.

Either direction (Snoopy or Nick) there will also be the cost with re-theming the "other" parks to match the licensing. There is a cost there as well.

^^ If you are right, then there's no reason to re-theme the areas of the park to Nick. They just need to put in Nick gift shops.

I would also argue that charm and soul ARE a big part of profit. Look at how many people go back to Disney year after year and then keep taking their family as they get older. You think they're going for the rides? Uh, I think not. They're going because they have an amazing time, the parks are stunning AND they most likely have some amazing memories of the park from their own childhood. *** Edited 9/6/2007 9:08:41 PM UTC by halltd***

Hey, hey, hey, what's this talk of D/C'ing Snoop? My 11 & 15 year old sons love Peanuts as much as I do. They look forward to the holiday specials that help make the holiday's... well, special.

Those Nick characters come & go based on the kids age IMO. My son used to like Sponge Bob. Now it's too "kiddish" for him. He used to like Snoopy. He still likes Snoopy! The Peanuts characters are far more endearing & have greater lasting power in terms of their appeal.

Go ahead & get Nick merchandise in the stores. Even have a few characters walking around if you want. But if you pull out Peanuts from the park, you've definitely lost this season pass holder. I may love the coasters, but the charm is what keeps me at CP rather than hitting up other coaster parks.

Peace Love Hope

^which is exactly why I think the happy medium is in combining the kiddie kingdom, playground and old stadium, retheming and adding some new rides and turning it into Nick Universe. Then CP would have a Nick and Snoopy area, and all parties would be happy. The only thing this would really hurt is CarnEvil, since it would not be prudent to keep the scare zone there if the area was rethemed to a kiddie zone.

I hope they keep the peanuts because growing up i loved watching them and i still do. But good grief if CP takes peanuts out i wouldnt throw away my season passes i would still go to enjoy the rides. Cedar point isnt really known for the worldest greatest characters even though there still good. There known for the rides and roller coasters.

Bring back Boblo!

So...for those of you just joining us on page 13, heres a review of what relates to 2008.

1) the aquatic stadium is rumored to be leaving

2) there are construction vehicles in the park

There. A full review of what we actually know.

You might want to hold off on purchasing that Platinum Pass until the 2008 season gets closer. :)

^ You forgot point 3. Because of the elimination of "Joe Cool", there are rumors that Peanuts are out and Nick is in.

wah wah wah wah wah

You put in sponge bob, dora and all the others and in 3 years when they're yesterday's news you'll have to redo everything with nick's latest fads

We also know that the park keeps construction vehicles like those on hand all year round, and someone did mention a few months back that upon closer inspection, the "boarding up" of aquatic stadium could easily be removed. i.e., the stadium could be used again, although very doubtful.

Now, if we start to see construction trailers and crane equipment, that might be another story. :)

Yeah when we see them cranes used in assembling the TTD.

I never thought cranes got that big........

I've heard from another forum that the site that is cleared is by TTD / Paddlewheel Excursions and is relatively small in size.

But if you look at say when TTD was announced, and coordinate rides being moved / construction starting it was directly after labor day. So I think obviously within the next week or two we will start to get more official word as if anything is to be constructed...we will start to see it soon most likely.

I agree Peanuts is more timeless, Snoopy and all.

You can't get "timeless" with Nickelodeon as they are always making new shows.

If you had "some" of Nickelodeon there...eventually you would need the whole 9 yards.

There's enough Nick to last a lifetime at Kings Island. It would be sad to see the Peanuts gang leave CP IMO. It's still just as alive in comic strips and holiday specials as its ever been.

I once thought the same thing about cranes until my brother made me feel like stupid when he said cranes get a whole lot larger than that. How do you think skyscrapers are built? And, they're much larger than TTD.

Sorry to disagree with a lot of people on here, but Nick is in, Peanuts is out.

And that's what's great about the interwebs....you can disagree and still be wrong. ;)

Actually, mobile cranes don't get much larger. Tower cranes, on the other hand, do.

^^^ I love how your signature says Paramount is a cancer, but you want Nick in and Snoopy out. LOL!
