Dude, Matt, what happened? Did you leave last season on bad terms with management? What did you say was your availability? Something seems wrong here...

Matt B, I kind of know what you're going through. If other people can read this and tell me what they think I'd be appreciative.
So, I'm a 21 year old college student and I was really looking forward to working at Cedar Point this summer. Since I'm a marketing major, I applied for three different office positions under the marketing department so I could try and gain some internship experience. I submitted my application on like the 1st of January, and it wasn't until the 23rd that anyone even reviewed my application. I waited awhile to see if I would get an email or a phone call and never heard anything so after like a week I emailed the person to find out what was up. The website led me to believe that I was to contact her. She sent me back a pretty snotty email about how she'd call me if she wanted an interview. After another week went by, and my application looked like it had been passed around a lot, I contacted Cedar Point by email and they told me to call the Jobs phoneline for an interview. I got passed around to a lot of different people until I ended up on the line with that same lady. I knew this wasn't going to be good, and I was right. For absolutely no reason she was a complete bitch to me telling me she just wasn't interested. So basically, I'm not even worthy of an interview. I figured that my chances of having any of those positions were shot so I emailed CP again to have them update my preferences to include Food Server and Bartender since I figured all of the rides were taken now.
I don't know what the deal is? I'm an awesome employee. I have plenty of job experience and i've worked at gap for 5 years. I also showed that I was interested in using it as an internship. Now my application has been reviewed by at least 3 more people and I haven't heard anything.
Is this normal? I thought everyone got hired at CP unless they were a criminal or something. I had all my plans riding on this summer and now I don't know what to do.
Not necessarily everyone. I know someone who was very much qualified to work at the park, and was turned down last year. I've heard of similar cases in the past as well.
How recently was your application reviewed again? It took me about 2 weeks after my application was reviewed before I got a phone call. It's also common for a couple people to review your application.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience with the whole situation. Hopefully things will work out for you!

Well the first reason why I think they did not accept my application was because I quit early in the season last year. I was dissatisfied with some things, and I was homesick, so I packed up and left on June 10, 2006. I put my application back in for the 2007 season, my job choices Customer Service Host, Courtesy Car Driver, and Office Worker. I am hurt, but hey If it's meant for me to go back then I will and stay, but if not then I am not worried about it...I will try again in 2008.....

Bingo! Cedar Point does not like it when people just up and leave. I don’t care that people say they can always hire more, its not as easy as just keeping the person already trained. It will probably be the same in `08 as well unless you contact your manager from last year and see if they have flagged your file. They might be able to make it better if you contact them.

If it is as bad as your making it out to be, then I would:
1) Goto the contact us page on CP.com
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/general/contact.cfm
2) Paste both emails into the form clearly seperating and identifying which is which.
3) State and explain in a calm and collect manner how you feel about the situation and how you were mistreated by the particular employee.

Did you put in your 2 week notice? If not, you are a permanent no rehire.
That really depends on how your record with the company was when you leave. A number of people that get fired say they quit.
I think it's funny when people walk around with an involuntary termination checklist and say they quit.
I remember a couple international guys that were trying to figure out a place to stay. They had little money, lived far away, and had a court date a few weeks from then. They decided that it would be funny if they would pull the fire alarm in the middle of the night. Of course they had to pick the building that I was in. They got away with it a couple times but then got caught. Good Riddance.
I've been running into quite a few problems with my application. My job choices have been declined, but I've called a couple times. I talked to Steve (Park Operations) last week and he told me to call the person in charge of the job choice I had on the 20th, so I'll be sure to do that.
Giving up isn't really an option, I know I can get a job, I just have to bend a little.

That is funny. Last summer they TRIEd to give me the green voluntary one but I MADE them give me the involuntary one since I was laid off!! Figures...

Okay last season, I went into park operations and told them I was ready to quit and the secretary (Marsha) told me to tell my supervisor, and they made it seem like that was my TL. Then on the day that I went to go get my termination papers, I went into Park Ops, and Karrah and what's that girl name that is the manager for Zone 2? They took me in the office and were saying stay a little longer, and then Karrah asked me did I put my two weeks notice in and I was like "yeah", and then I explained to her that I was under the assumption that you go and talk to your TL. So I think that's why I am a permenant no rehire, but when someone says they're getting ready to quit, they should make sure that you understand the proper channels of leadership? I miss working there, it was fun, but I guess I won't be back.

Was that in 1400's? Cause I remember the night I was to leave someone set the fire alarm off....and that was not funny....
So congratulations to all the new employees, yall will love meeting the new people, and make sure you bring a camera because I didn't......Have fun.

I quit in mid-August during my contract, 2 months early. The following year I applied, and was told I was flagged for a no-rehire. I submitted a letter on why I quit (I was unhappy with several things) and they responded offering me MF ride host.
I had to turn that down for other reasons. Now, I think I'm a permanent no-rehire....LOL......
Kids...do not try this at home!!!
I'm too sexy for my harness!
Those of you hoping for office or customer service positions and are surprised that you didn't get hired... you also have to remember that there are FAR fewer positions available in these departments than, say, ride ops... If you hear people talking about how pretty much everyone gets hired who apply, they're referring to ride op positions or food service or merchandise. Office positions almost always go to former employees who have experience in the park - not first years.
