Mean Streak- Redone

There's nothing that can be done to improve Mean Streak in its current form than what has already been done.

Simply putting on "topper track" would not make the layout any less boring or uncreative. When RMC has done their revisions of the wooden coasters, they have all been significantly altered to make the ride much more dynamic, exciting, and thrilling.

Like some of you, I recall waiting 3 hours to ride Mean Streak, but in all honesty, the 2nd half of the ride always seemed dull.

I would much, much prefer a newer modern woodie at some point in the future.

Now I need to grab a glass of wine to deal with the fact that I posted in this thread. :) I promised I would have nothing more to do with this ride after giving it one last shot after the "major work" that was done which did nothing for the ride experience at all.

^ Agreed.

I would *much* prefer to see it demolished and a brand new GCI twister in it's place.

I know you guys want to have a Bonfire, but I think it would be cool to at least save the first hill and then add a new layout. ;)

I think the whole thing needs to go. Build an intamin pre fab that's 200+ feet that has tons of amazing airtime and that's better than El Toro.

^There's one reason that won't work ... Intamin.

It's not the most thrilling or dynamic, but I think the layout is actually awesome.

I like the layout just as much as I still enjoy Mean Streak. Call me crazy but if something were to happen to Mean Streak, I think it would be cool to do the Intamin Topper Track on it along with maybe adding some nice lateral turns.

I always sit in the very front row on mean streak. always. Any other row is too painful for me. I am happy with doing that, but it would be nice to re-track the ride into rocky mountain makeover work :)

today i thought of an intresting idea. i was thinking that in 2015 mean streak will get an iron horse treatment. then in 2016 or 2017 will be a new major wood coaster. for location, if cedar point removes turn picke cars, cadilaic cars and the good time theater and re route perimeter road, there would be a lot a room for a big wood coaster. i compared sizes and the new golaith wood coaster in six flags great ammerica can fit in that spot.

That sounds like a good Idea. The only thing is I cannot see them removing the Good Time Theater since that is a family favorite. I can see them removing Turnpike cars since not too many people ride that anymore. I see more people in line for Cadillac Cars than Turnpike cars. Don't forget, they have a little bit of room behind the grandstands where Wildcat used to be.

The Topper Track would really smooth out the ride while reducing maintenance and still allow the ride to remain a traditional wood coaster.

Is this what EL Toro has? I would be in favor of that.

Don't get the different wood track varieties confused. Topper track is done by Rocky Mountain and is a prefabricated steel rail on top of wood layers (see #1 below). Intamin's prefabricated track is made of thin layers of wood that are glued together and then laser cut to the exact shape needed (see #2 below).

Intamin's track is more true to a traditional wood coaster but both companies make amazing wood coasters (Rocky Mountain more lately than Intamin).

^ In your opinion, what style would be best for Mean Streak if Cedar Point were to go that route? I keep hearing a lot of people complaining about Mean Streak so much that it's been making me do some research lately of what would be better if Mean Streak were to get an overhaul. I'd be in favor of either one. I cannot decide which one at the moment.

I think the best style would be a gallon of gas and a match. :P

But I would be more leaning to having Rocky Mountain come in and "re do" the ride. It'd be interesting to see what they could do with such a massive structure. Of course, this will probably never happen. I'd be more willing to bet that Mean Streak will stay the way it is until it's put out of its misery.

If El Toro is as amazing as everybody says it is, I would be all for Intamin prefab. But at this point, anything to help Mean Streak regain popularity would be awesome

I kinda like the walk on nature of Mean Streak. Once I learned to ride it, I had a great time this summer hanging out back there when the park got crowded.

I don't like the walk-on nature myself because it could be a good draw from the other big coasters. It's kind of a waste of space, so big yet such low ridership. It's too bad Maverick is virtually the lone coaster in that corner with such long lines with no competition really.

I learned how to ride it, too, this summer. I know it's only my opinion, but the ride is a big dud to me in its current trimmed condition.

Since I'm not a coaster buff and I always hear this discussion, can someone simply explain (probably again) what trims are?
Some days I really enjoy Mean Streak, other days it's horrible. I had two super awesome rides on it over labor day weekend on Sunday night. I find it's much less boring to me in the dark for some reason. I also met Mean Streak Henry that night :)

Trims are just what the name implies, a device that trims the speed of the ride. You can feel them on the first drop of Mean Streak. If MS's trains were allowed to run full speed, the weight and momentum of the trains would tear the track to pieces (or at least more then they do now.)
