Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

There's really nothing to share at this point. We're performing basic tests on the ride, which include water effects, pumps, lift chains, proximity switches, safety systems and more. Part of that includes moving boats through various parts of the ride.

You're witnessing the birth of a new ride. Nothing more, nothing less.

Merely trying to ascertain what is going on...not freaking out... just fun trying to figure it out. The engineering of this stuff is part of what makes it so cool.

What this view doesnt capture is how much a part of this ride the train is going to add.

It's fun to watch people work that fast at that speed. Everyone looks as if they are working 100 mph a day. :)

On the webcam, it appears they're pumping some water into the lagoon, and it looks as if the supply hose is coming from the island's pond. But that can't be the case, right? I mean, can you dump chlorinated water into the lagoon (aka protected wetlands)?

That sure looks to be the case, what else could it be pumping out into the lagoon?

Edit - Perhaps the water hasn't be treated/chlorinated yet?

Well, who's to say it has been chlorinated yet? Even if it had, perhaps they stopped chlorinating it, or reverse-treated it so that the pH level (or whatever) was acceptable for the lagoon.

But I agree, the water definitely appears to be coming out of the island pond.

^ I'm sure that is the reasoning we will be given. Either that or the cam will be going offline shortly because of painting ;)

heheh. Well, I remember it didn't take long for nature to take over the pool whenever our parents would takes us out on vacation.

Even if the water was already clorinated, would that about of clorinated water have an impact on the lagoon, which is significantly larger in volume?

I could just hope this is part of a new Paddlewheel Excursions scene themed to the moonshine shootout, with a blowing up still and rough waters for the boat in the lagoon?!

Looking over the new pics that were posted on cp's website, I noticed a small dock near the service bridge behind the covered tunnel. Any chance people can hop on paddle wheel excursion and get dropped off by STR?

^I'm going to go with the 99.9% chance that no, that won't happen. There's no path, no line, no bars, and plus, it doesn't look sturdy enough or big enough to support the crowds.

Love the new pictures on the new site though. They looks great! Interesting that they are now draining the island pool though... I wonder why?

On a more important note though: looks like they're doing a pull through (so to speak)!

Oh, I think that reporter mentioned that you could rent a paddle boat and take it over to STR... but everything in that report was embarrassingly wrong!

I wonder if the ride will eventually have its own gantry crane or whatnot for removing the boats without the need for bringing out one of the big cranes? I guess it doesn't make sense if you can easily bring over a crane for the few times you might need to pull out a boat.

Well we now have the answer to the odd color on SRF we were discussing a few pages back. I'm liking the new colors. They fit well with SRT. And the area is looking MAGNIFICENT!! It's coming along beautifully. I'm definitely going to ride it opening day....cold or warm. :)
