Will Diamondback overshadow CP in 2009?

And yet the best ride at Cedar Point kicks both their butts even though it typically enjoys near walk on waits during the first and last hour of operation :).

So true.

I enjoyed the Superman B&M flyer at SF Great Adventure, but I didn't enjoy Borg ("Nighthawk") or Firehawk. Vekoma rides just don't like me, and I don't like them. I think if a flyer is done right and has the right elements (like a giant pretzel loop, for one) then it can be enjoyable. I can see how some people wouldn't enjoy the riding position, though.

Nitro was flat out spectacular, as was Apollo's Chariot. B&M hypers are pretty impressive rides. Will Diamondback cause more people to go to KI? Sure. Will it cause KI to take business away from CP? I doubt it.

Since we're talking about flying coasters, I will say Tatsu was one of the more incredible coasters I've ever been on. If all flying coasters were like that they would be amazing.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

B&M Flyers aren't in the same category as Vekomas, I don't think. I've ridden Superman: Ultimate Flight at SFOG and Firehawk at KI, and S:UF is leagues above Firehawk. I found it more to be a more comfortable riding position and more entertaining, with more 'flying' time, where as Firehawk you spend too much time on your back instead of flying, IMO.

As long as we're talking about flyers, how awful are the zamperla flyers? Time Warp (formerly Tomb Raider) at Canada's Wonderland was just painful and boring, the spiral lift was cool though.

The two b&m hypers I've been on have been excellent so I expect a lot from Diamondback.

Raptor doesn't go down in the rain and wind nearly as much as TTD. Raptor also opens an hour before TTD. This is not an accurate comparison.

That has little to do with it, dude. Even if both rides had zero hours of downtime all season and had the same operating schedule, Raptor would still come out far ahead in ridership at the end of the season. The thing is that TTD simply has mediocre capacity. We're talking less than 1,000 riders/hr (realistic capacity, I don't care what the official site says) for TTD and over 1,400 for Raptor. And as Touchdown says, the best ride in the park puts them all to shame :)

The thing about Raptor is, there were some morning for ERT that it wasn't on the list, but I was open at 9am sharp! It is so nice riding it in the front seat in the morning with no wait. Raptor is a people eater!

I've been on both B&M and comfortable. For me Vekoma is just uncomfortable, the padded vest leaves red line on shoulders, and if you call it a "Flyer" then you should be in the flying positon the whole time, and what makes it more worse is when the sun's out and it in your face while on your back.

And I don't think KI will draw more poeple to ride Diamondback, well maybe just visting it ounce.

Are you kidding me? Do you think they'd build a $21 million ride if it wasn't going to draw more people to the park?

I think it'll draw more people to the park, but not necessarily take away business from CP. People might make one trip to KI they wouldn't normally, but if CP is closer, that's where they're going to go. Same reason I go to KI on a pretty much weekly basis but only go to CP 2 or 3 times a year - it's a 45 minute drive vs a 3 hour drive. If CP was opening a new ride this coming year, I might make an extra trip up there early in the season to ride it, but it wouldn't change how many times I visit KI.

Diamondback will be the ride of the year next year! I love similar rides like Nitro, Apollo's Chariot etc. I've been watching the construction webcam and it's moving right along. Can't wait to ride next summer. CP will still out shine KI - more rides better staff...

I don't understand why fanboys complain about what manufacture builds what at the point. How can you complain about Intamin coasters at Cedar Point? They were all great, some of them had some mechinal headaches but the ride experince is great.

I think it's sad that The Beast is still arguably the best coaster at KI after 30 years. 30 years! It's impressive that they haven't been able to build a single 'great' ride since it. Sure it is still classic and unique and did new things, but so did Gemini and it declined from major popularity about 10 years ago.

The Beast is far from the most popular coaster at Kings Island, even if it remains (for some, at least) an enthusiast favorite.

I feel that when I ride Diamondback, I will get tired of it after about 5 times. So, I will ride it, but it will only be about two trips to KI and then I will go to CP and ride Maverick. I have a good feeling that more people will go to KI meaning short lines at CP.

I am looking forward to trying the Diamondback! It will be a nice addition to that park! I wish CP was getting a new addtion!

Diamondback, not the Diamondback. Before you wake up the Michiganders.

Sorry. I was just refering to a coaster. Anyhow why would that wake up the Michiganders?

There is a certain contingent of people on here who seems to believethat Ohioans insert too many articles -- "the" -- before nouns that donot require them. Most of said faction seem to live in the greatsnowy expanse to our north.

It's just a running gag. :)

It only annoys me now because certain people on here just had to bring it up.;)

Will Diamondback overshadow CP? Well did Maverick overshadow KI? I personally don't think it will and I can't wait to ride my first B&M hyper.

And for those arguing about Raptor and Dragster's capacity. I'll agree that while Raptor obviously has the higher capacity I remember Raptor having troubles this year with stacking (due to the bins and whatnot) while Dragster and Millennium were kicking the crap out of their capacity.

::disclaimer:: I am by no means dissing Raptor. Raptor is still up there with my favorites. Just my 2 cents.
