White Water Landing: Gone!

Don't worry even though White Water Landing is leaving Cedar Point, we will never forget it. I'm sure people felt the same way when the Classic Cycone of Cedar Point was demolished back in the early 1950s. That didn't last too long either, in fact about the same as White Water. I think whatever replaces White Water Landing will be awesome. Kinzel won't let us down, he'll make us very happy in 2006 and 2007.

The garbage truck rolled up and took away a dumpster full of green fiberglass yesterday around noon on the webcam. So sad :( One of my favorite rides gone in the trash. At least the steel can be recycled into new things, but that doesn't comfort me much. *** Edited 11/4/2005 5:55:15 PM UTC by beccaraptor***

Did they show pictures of it yet? Don't worry I'm sure part of the ride is still up, it will probably take them a whole month before they get all of White Water Landing taken down. I'm still confident that we'll replace White Water Landing with Something Great.

OnPoint! has pics of the demo. They are nowhere near being done yet.

I won't be sad about CP not having a log flume. It'll only be two years anyways...:)

2007 hear I come...

It will be dissapointing to have no water ride to go on without getting soaked in '06. Very sad seeing WWL being demolished, but I agree that whatever replaces it will be great. Dick Kinzel also said in his interview with Coaster Buzz that they were keeping in mind how popular these flume rides are, so I have confidence another will be coming. (Maybe)

I've always thought it would be cool to have a flume that traversed the lagoon near CCMR. The water there provides adquate "theming" for the ride, and could provide a more suitable area for a flume.

I too will miss the gental thrill of WWL. It is one of the rides that, in my opinion, is a must ride. The fact that you do not get soaked, just refreshed was a big concept. All in All, I know that Kinzel won't let us down with a new thrill but I do hope that he preserves as much of the natural beauty of that area as he can. No matter how many positives I look at, it will just feel empty in that section of the park with out it. It truly was an icon of the park.(in my eyes)

Actually, for many years that was the prevailing concept with an amusement park water ride and in many ways still is.
Most places take the stance that the water park is for getting people soaked, and that an amusement park is for thrills and mild dousing. How many parks have rides like Thunder Canyon or Snake River Falls, much less one of each?

Good point Jugga. However, I was speaking on my point of view, but I do see it the other way also. Are TC and SRF thrilling? Yes. Do they get you uncomfortably soaked? Yes. I guess they cancel each other out. Nevertheless, I do not like to get soaked and then go ride coasters the rest of the day, but I guess it's there for the people who do. Saying to remove them would just be selfish and that is not who I am. I guess I'm still bummin' over the lost of one, if not the greatest, flume ride there was.

You guys will think I'm crazy, but Parks should build like a Dryer room where people can walk right through the building for a few minutes and come out dry. Kind of Like how your car after it gets washed, there are dryers on the side to get your car dry. I know that was completely off topic, but if people wanted to dry off really quick, that might not be a bad idea.

^Interesting. I don't see an amusement park building one of those. However, if a park had such a dryer, there would probably be a charge.

I know this is an old thread but decided to ask this question here instead of adding a new one...

What exactly happened to the tunnel on WWL that had the dripping effect that poured on you before entering the tunnel? I remember it was taken down in the later years.

I'm assuming structurally unsound (didn't pass some inspection of sorts), so CP tore it down rather than get it up to spec, but I was curious about this as well...

I'm sure it was a matter of CP axing theming to save money in some way.

I believe the tunnel was structurally unsound and falling apart. Looking back now, this may have been around the time when the park was deciding whether to keep WWL or remove it. But I can't remember when the tunnel was actually removed. I do remember riding the flume back in 2004 and it was already gone.

Maybe we'll se its ghost sitting next to Maverick in the dark and still hear on a quiet afternoon, sounds of water splashing down...oh wait, that's shoot the rapids testing!

For those that don't remember the rock tunnel and would like to see it, I happened to find a 1996 family video of it and posted the video to YouTube a couple months ago. It shows up around the 1:05 mark:

Thanks for posting. That really makes me miss WWL. I'd take a spin on a refurbished WWL over STR any day.
