they didn't "hand" anything to Bush. What they did is determine that the recount, as requested by Gore and ordered by the Florida Supreme Court, violated both the US Constitution and Florida Election Law. You're not handing someone something by determining that Constitional rights will be trampled if a court ordered action is allowed to continue forward.
A philisophical disagreement. The constitutional rights of every voter's vote that was not counted were trampled on. I'm assuming you know the details, so in essence it boils down to this difference in opinion.
What constitutional rights would have been trampled? Please...coffee just shot out of my nose.

Well, I don't know about you.. but I've always gone back and checked who I voted for to make sure my vote counted the way it was supposed to.
I don't see why these others who supposedly had their rights trampled on could not have done the same thing.
^ - well, if you read the Supreme Courts decision, the constitutional right to equal protection (14th amendment). The recount was being handled differently from county to county. So what may have counted as a vote in one, wouldn't have in another.

Ok to get back on the topic of what's next to for the point. After spending wonderful weekend there this weekend. I kinda looked for clues for anything that may come for next year and the only thing I could find was..... just a few stacks of lumber being dropped off at the maintance area between Gemini and Meanstreak and two guys coming out of a contruction trailer in that area as well. Although looking at the pinic area between Raptor and Blue streak where Fearfare is currently Residing. The shelters have gone to heck. Why not tear them out there is Plenty of space there for small foot print mad spinning mouse or other ride. Oh Yea maybe whats next is actually bringing the Stay Puff Marshmellow man to the point as advertised.
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
Does anybody ever learn? Why do people insist on trying to bring this "back on topic", when the topic of the thread is, for all intents, whatever the majority of people are discussing?
Jugga,
Not to beat a dead horse between us, but you may find this interesting. Well, maybe not...but regardless, it's wordy, but noteworthy IMO.

I'm mostly convinced nothing is coming next year.

Nah, I don't think you're beating a dead horse. I think the horse has already disintegrated into the ground. ;)

You're probably right. :)
Being at KI this weekend brought back great memories of the excitement of new attractions...they have truly gone all out around the park to make Diamondback the focal point.

Ron Paul has it right and I wish he was the Republican nominee.
How would that happen? What with the Republican party completely abandoning its roots in favor of Neo-Conservatism and all.

I would not be surprised to see a circular added. Nothing too earthshattering but a new ride none the less. Also I expect them to celebrate not only the 20th anniverasy of the Magnum but the 40th anniversary of the Mine Ride.
Even if there is no new ride I think we will all be okay. Besides there is a new toy about 2 hours south I think we all want to try.
This year is actually Magnum's 20th year of operation, unless they just celebrate based on the "year number".

Next year will be Magnum's 20th anniversary, the ride opened in 1989.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
My friend and I were the 2 first waiting in line before the ride opened up. We also rode the Front Seat too.

This year is Magnum's 20th anniversary of operation. Count all of the years including 1989 until 2008 and you'll see what I mean. ;)

^ Nobody's disagreeing that this was the 20th season of operation, but the park has never made a big deal out of that - they tend to focus on the actual birthday year (as with Gemini's 30th birthday celebration this year). In 1999 CP made a huge deal about Magnum's 10th birthday with a 10-year logo and all, and next year they will probably make a big deal about its 20th. Bringing back the special effects and new train decals was something that was talked about while I was there working over the summer, but I definitely wouldn't hold my breath.

Jeff...those goes back a page or two but an observation. You said that Clinton should not be blamed for things that went wrong during his years because, for much of that time, he was hogtied by a Republican Congress. I can't say I disagree with you on that point.
But, if that IS going to be the point then doesn't it also stand to reason that all of the credit he gets for the booming economy during the 90s should also be shared equally with the Republicans?
I guess what I'm getting it is...we treat the President like a football coach. If things go well he gets the credit and if things go bad he gets the blame but it really is the entire team (in this case the Executive and Legislative branches) that either get the ball moving or get bogged down in a pile up.
As of the last few years I have been of the position that Washington is failing us...not just the Republicans. I don't see Bush accomplishing much and Pelosi might even be accomplishing less.

I agree with your observation, Chief. A recent example would have been Pelosi's need for a "speech" that essentially blamed republicans for the state of the economy, which certain republicans then used as an excuse for voting against the first attempt at the bailout. Neither Pelosi's speech nor republican's use of it as an excuse was good for you or me.
As corny as this is going to sound, I guess what keeps me hopeful is that I believe there are still some very good people in Washington who do have the people's interest at heart. It's getting very, very difficult, however (and maybe this is just me getting older) to keep the faith.

I think the people who go to Washington with good intentions fall into two categories pretty quickly. Those that get disenfranchised by the truth of what Washington REALLY is and leave...or those that get changed as a result of Washington and thus become part of the problem.
Sure, there are a few who will try to maintain their integrity and fight for us...those they are supposed to fight for...but, I think they are vastly outnumbered.
