Vertigo being Dismantled

WOW! Fox 8 News Cleveland went to Cedar Point today and interviewed Janice Witherow. They even showed shots of crews working on Vertigo. They are working really fast. The back(?) tower was already halfway gone. They said it should be completely gone in about two or three days. I'm guessing weekdays.

Rob, I feel your pain! After spending the first half of Mania Day 1 in the park and then deciding to take my first flight on VertiGo, I wish I would have gone to VertiGo first and stayed there. It is(was) my favorite non roller coaster thrill ride.

I'm going to get today's register framed and put in my room. I respect CF's decision but...

The article from the Sandusky Register can be found here.

It really doesn't surprised me that Cedar Point is removing it, to the general public( who sometime don't understand that if the ride was to reopen it might be safer) this shows that Cedar Point really cares about safety.

Well, I was up at the Poin tonight, and saw no sign of the towers. We were in the fornt of the parking lot and from across the bay. I got a few pictures of the rest of the park, if anybody wants some, e-mail me.

I think we need to have some kind of moment of silence and/or gathering at the former Vertigo site on opening day... have everyone say a few words about their times with VertiGo...

I'm seriously tearing up here... Vertigo was the first ride which I saw 100% from rumor to completion. I still remember how I broke off from my cousin to go ride it... and that total rush... *sniff*

Heh, moment of silence may be going a little too far, but I do think it would be nice to have a gathering over there on Opening Day.

Just wanted to let everyone know that according to this article, SFMM is keeping their VertiGo. Of course, Rich Allen from S&S said this, not Six Flags officials.

I know I'll be stopping back there.. Of course I use the Magnum gate usually. But I'll still stop there for a moment..

Yes, those two days of 'VertiGo Mania' were fun. Good thing I tied you at 32, Greg. I hope Jamin still has those photos from when he was working there, esp. the one of the screen with the 'special' name for Big Bang Plus.

So sad.

Does anyone know what they are going to do with the two good towers? Does anyone think that CP will just store them for a year or two and possibly bring it back then?

On the discussion regarding SFMM..Yes they really do have a HUGE decision to make. If SFMM leaves Vertigo alone, it is a gamble because if anything happens at all, even a 1st year law student could build the case the ride should have been removed due to KNOWLEDGE about a structural failure in similair version.

Also, SFMM opens themselves up to public perception of NOT caring for their guests...Unless a TRUE final answer can be provided for why Vertigo snapped, SFMM is playing with fire.

Unlike the Chaos incident at MA, for which the exact cause has been determined, I would venture to guess, SFMM will not reopen their Vertigo any time soon. If an exact cause can be determined and fixed, then and only then will SFMM reopen. I find it hard to believe this type of attraction will survive.

Why? Because of Cedar Fair's insanely pre-mature decision? SFMM is keeping their version of the ride, with some modifications made by S&S. If the ride is cleared for safety, then I see nothing wrong with re-opening it. The ride will be safe, period. Just like Cedar Fair didn't go nuts removing all of their Chaos rides, it's not nessessary in this case either. There are very specific reasons for the break in Vertigo, ones that can be fixed. Thank goodness SF isn't jumping to conclusions.

As posted before, S&S claims that the reason for Cedar Point's vertigo tower collapse was due to the high winds over the winter when all the cars and cables were removed from the ride causing the towers to sway much more than usual...They had no idea this was going to happen because when vertigo opened last year it didn't have to survive a winter...This was its first winter and it wasn't meant to make it...SFMM is located in an area that doesn't close for the winter...I don't even think that the park closes down during seasons...If it does then my point has no purpose what so ever...But they have not had to remove the cars or cables from their ride which has kept the towers from swaying too far in the wind and kept the towers in good shape...The ride at SFMM should be safe and they should have nothing to worry about...Cedar Points was caused due to the winter weather and the cars and cables being removed...SFMM doesn't have to worry about any winters...I think their ride is ok..
