Vertical Construction Has Begun!

Funny^ because the two other cams are down (frozen)....maybe they're going to moveg them soon.

If the camera is moved any closer, you'll complain once track is installed just out of view. You also have to think about where the sun is and how it travels overhead during the winter.

They can't just pick those up and move them. It's in the best spot, really. Unless they had two cams pointed at construction. Which could very well happen.

In a little while I am sure there will be no problem seeing track being installed.

I agree that the discoloring in the picture is sand (you can see it on the station track as well) but I wouldn't completely rule straps out in some other cases. It's rare, sure, but I paint stuff where I work and I've seen my fair share of scratches and scrapes from moving the items with straps. Of course they use a completely different type of paint on the steel track and supports so I'm sure there's not as many.

I think the main cause of the scratches we do see is a result of how they're handled during transit. Especially when taking them off the flatbeds and to the site itself. Of course the construction site is a flurry of machinery and workers with tools. So there's bound to be some bumps and bruises from that as well.

Maverick is a prime example of just how scratched a coaster can get on the work site. They really beat the crap out of those supports.

I've never paid that close of attention to Mavericks supports....that will be something to check out.

As far as painting goes, I've always wondered what kind of painting process is used for track and supports. Maybe electromagnetic? Is it baked on? Or just sprayed and air dried? Does anyone know?

Two camera angles is what I was trying to imply. Right now, all the action is focused in that one area, it'd be great to have a second cam for a closer view; not only for the track, but also for the land around the track which will eventually be the entrance plaza for GK.

I was think ing that they could put a cam on the DT refreshment buildings, if those aren't going to be removed. It would be cool to have a live cam on the coaster once it's complete and running.

Or on WT's service platform on one of the spikes. They have gotten lazy on their webcams.

Gotta love how the park is undertaking one of its most ambitious expansions to date and all some people are worried about is them not providing the public with a different webcam view. Lazy? Maybe you need to remind yourself that they aren't required to have a single webcam available to you.....

I love the webcams and I am pleased that they have one up at all. Cedar Point really doesn't get anything out of having a webcam up. They aren't making money off the webcam. They do it for people like us to enjoy (and we are a small percentage of their market). Let's just be glad we aren't kept in the dark until opening day

Yet they do provide us with webcams. Since they do that, I don't see anything wrong with discussing the possibility of moving the webcam(s) to different locations that might be able to give us a better view.

So everything is about money? Guess it is these days.

Everything's always an argument on here.

We can complain if we want. But really, it's more of a "Wouldn't it be nice if..." scenario than anything.

If CP is smart and moves that pointless webcam at hotel breakers to the GK construction site, it would be wonderful. Considering we're at a lack of a blogger at the mo', I don't see any other way those of us obsessed with CP construction will get our fix. ;)

That would work if you want a blurry webcam shot from the wiggling spikes :)

From what I've seen from the B&M plant in Ohio, they just spray their steel. Of course, I can't say that for every manufacturer or fabrication plant. Or if they only spray SOME things while using another method for the larger pieces like track and supports.

I think they meant the platform on the supports.

Has anyone noticed today that the breakers webcam has been taken off of the CP website? Maybe they are moving it towards GK or at least turning it that general direction. Any other ideas on what they may be doing?

The Breakers Cam hasn't updated since October 25th and the Dragster Cam hasn't updated since the 30th. It wouldn't surprise me if people were complaining/asking about it. So, they took it off the site just to alleviate that. It could be moving. But, it could just as well need maintenance or just be off because there is nothing to see.

Shows construction has kind of focused on the station platform/framing before moving on. Is this normal? Figure you'd want to get some of the harder to reach areas (i.e. high up) done while you have calm winds and nicer days.

To me that looks like the transfer track system. That area was prepped and poured first, so I assume they are following that order for placing track.

They are probably doing that so them can get the other trades in there working on it. Smart to plan it so multiple groups can be working on the same project at the same time
