Two Trains on Mantis

I'm with Vince here. While it may have been the original idea, it's probably for the better that they didn't add unload and load stations. That's just more employees they'd need to run a ride that doesn't necessarily need them.

Unless they convert it to a floorless. :)

Even though I didn't ride Mantis until it had it's seat belts, supposedly it could barely handle 3 trains when the belts weren't there. Compared to other parks, Cedar Point is really patient with people moving up and down in the restraints. When Chang was at Kentucky Kingdom, the ride ops didn't give multiple chances to the riders so they would be standing in the correct position. Are there any stand-ups that run 3 trains?

Riddlers Revenge was 5 yrs. ago on busy weekends. Don't know about how many it runs anymore.

I think Riddlers Revenge's third train is being sent to Great Adventure so they can run three trains on Green Lantern.

^ This is true. They ran 3 trains on Riddler really efficiently due to giving people one shot at standing correctly and then sending them on their way without all the re-adjusting of the seats.

Now why would they do something as awesome as that? :)

If mantis were a floorless, we all would be waiting like........5hours in line lol!

Riddler over new years was running one train. There was also no sign of a second train. In the line there was also a sign explaining the one train operation as a maintenance precaution

The third train would have already been on it's way to New Jersey. The second train was likely getting its yearly rehab done.

Alright I'm bringing this topic back for the second time. I was just curious if anybody has been to Cedar Point recently and have ridden Mantis? If they have ridden Mantis, would he/she know if they are running 2 trains yet? On opening weekend, the second train was sitting on the ground waiting to be put on the tracks. Is this still the case of running one train or are they back to 2 train operation?

I rode Mantis Yesterday and they were running two trains.

Does anyone know if they are seriously thinking about converting it to floorless? I would be 100% ok with not seeing a new roller coaster in 2012 if they were to make mantis floorless:)

The discussion of conversion to floorless has been going on for years. As far as has been reported, either here or on other almost-as-reputable sites, no evidence of CP planning or even contemplating such a change has ever been shown.

It did just occur to me, however, that if this were ever to happen, they could market it as the only floorless in the Midwest...

Something tells me it's not as simple of a conversion as some people may believe it would be. That said, there are not may stand-ups left on the planet, so having Mantis at at the park makes it special as well, much like Iron Dragon.

Could they like, try train on it fora seaso. Then see if it's worth it?

Kevinj, I've heard that argument. But it's true that if something has been done already, than it's a doable thing. See Sheikra, which as far as anything I've read didn't require any track reprofiling for the retrofit. I suppose it could be true that there is a difference between Sheikra's lone Immelman and Mantis' loop and corkscrews in their effect on the human heartline (somehow), but who knows...*

If anything, I'm guessing CP isn't ready to plunk down the investment on new trains, plus expensive modications to the station. If that's the case, I think they're making the wrong bet.

*I mean, other than Dave Althoff. That guy knows everything. (And I'm not being facetious.) :)

I forgot about Sheikra. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that no one at Cedar Point has ever brought it up as a possibility. It would certainly be a much more re-rideable attraction if that were done.

I think you're completely right. Floorless coasters are so much more natural and comfortable, compared to the artificial, rigid posture of riding a standup. Seriously, didn't anybody in Sandusky ever make the trek out to Aurora and try Batman/Dominator?
