Two Trains on Mantis

Well, yesterday I asked an op why they haven't been running all 3, and he said because it wasn't like Magnum where all you have is a lapbar and seatbelt. I was okay with that but he said it in a somewhat mean way.

I can see why said that but not the look. The restraints have to fit to your height last time I rode it. I'm 13 and rode front. I did something wrong and they had to do a recheck. It wasn't long, but my point is that even though I have riden plenty of coasters, I got confused a little bit. But that look was un called for CP Bound

I still think 32 more people on the ride at a time would help capacity, no matter how good/bad dispatching is.
Exactly what I was thinking about, Brett. I mean even if they stack, the capacity would still increase.
From the same folks who brought you Ticket to Ride... :)

Seriously guys, it's all just trial and error. There trying to find something that works. Personally, I have had more stacking on Gemini in one day then I have had on Mantis in all my life. ;)

I remember I was in the line for the Mantis the year after it opened and this CP Employee at the front of the line gave us these ticket things with numbers on them, I checked my dads and his was the number after mine (Like I had 3,456 and he had 3,457) was this to make sure people weren't line jumping?

Exactly
Has the ride run three at ALL this season?? They should at least try it to see how capacity does. If it improves, we are right, if not, at least we will know.
you know what they do now they check every row to make sure they are closed it is a pain aahahahahah

Noticed today a big green tarp is over Train # 3. Also, the crew was dispatching after the other train had already hit the brake run.

I am guessing Train # 3 is out for the season, and the tarp is there to "hide" it from the GP.

What a waste. *** This post was edited by Brett on 7/11/2001. ***

Im going tommorow and i love the ride but i dont want to wait for more than an hour on the darned thing like i have in the past!
I rode Mantis twice during my visit to CP and the crew was making sure every seat was full before the train left the station, this made the line move MUCH faster, I think they're finally catching on! ;)

Opening day.. I was once again.. the first Mantis public rider for the season. I was talking to John and Cassie (Mantis TL) and they said that the 3-train operation will not take place.

They did 3-train during morning warm-ups at the beggining of the season then pulled off one train, they have since stopped that practice and wrapped up one train.

The decision for this was made last year.

This thought just in, as I was surfing over at CB when the lightbulb went off...

I've always believed that Mantis has the potential to be a great ride, but the exact variable to make the equation work was always daunting...  Now I know the answer.  To make an analogy, it was common knowledge in the gaming community that the the Nintendo 64 would have been better served with a CD-ROM drive as it was limited by its format: the solid state memory cartridge, which prevented richer textures and CGI movies seen on the Playstation from being used in games on the N64.

In the same regard, I believe the Mantis is also limited by its format.  The format we are speaking of here is standing up.  If riders are uncomfortable from the get-go, they will never truly enjoy a ride.

Also, we know that most of the stacking problem eminates from the riders' inability to situate themselves correctly during the load interval.  Retrofitting Mantis for sit-down operation seems like the ultimate solution, as I don't honestly believe adding an unloading platform is feasible.   B&Ms are engineered to the same spec for the most part, so it doesn't appear it would take much reworking.  (Maybe Mr. Althoff could help us out with any specific problems here.)

In conclusion, you might be losing a ride genre at the Point, but you'll be gaining much needed rideability which could quite possibly change Mantis from "the ride that never quite caught on" to a ride that made good of a second lease on life.
Opinions?

I don't think so...not from the parks stand point, nor a thrill seeker's. The first time I rode Mantis I sat down because I was just barely tall enough to ride anyway. The seat was all the way down to the bottom, so I just sat down...booooring.

It wasn't a fun ride a all. It just wasn't exciting at all. It felt like there were no forces. Then when I rode it again the same day, I stood up and I loved it. To me, if they changed it to a sitdown, there would be even more complaining then there is now.

But talking about the possibility of making it a floorless, thy wouldn't really have to change the loading station, just add an unloading station with a floor that splits and drops out...just a thought, not that I want it to happen, nor think it will.
