STR Still Opening This Weekend?

I would have to believe that Cedar Fair/Cedar Point is not the least bit thrilled by this, and have to be getting a little fed up with Intamin by this time.

After already missing the target of opening day, I am sure that the only reason Cedar Point would not open StR on Saturday would be because of mechanical problems with the ride itself, not with scenery around the ride. That being said, we should be able to add yet another tally to the list of rides that have been changed after the fact due to Intamin's faulty engineering. Congrats StR you have now joined the ranks with Maverick and I-305!

Seriously though, this is really getting quite ridiculous.

EDIT:

I just thought of something.

Maybe the "leak" that Kinzel made about a new ride in 2011 was actually planned so as to get everyone talking about that and keep us off the topic of the StR mishaps...

Just food for thought.

I mean how hard is it to a flume running? They have been testing and everything for this ride.

It's ridiculous. The fact that even when we ask them about it they won't even respond. (facebook, here) Usually when you ask a simple question like that you'll get an answer...

The thing that scares me is that when I was there on opening day, 13 days ago, the ride looked to be testing just fine. Yes, there were only 4 boats on the track or whatever, but they were the retrofitted ones and looked to be running great.

Then, 8 days later on Sunday, the whole pool was drained and they were welding and working (probably 30 guys) on the final drop.

Que es el problema? I don't know whether to cheer for or against this ride. It's like Magglio Ordonez last year, do I want him to bat well so we can make the playoffs, or have him do bad so the Tigers can bench him so we can get out of his $16 million/year contract.

Dragster has been infamous for its problems, and Millennium only ran two trains for a couple of weeks. One Monday in May Millie was down all day much to the dismay of either the coaster club of Great Britain or the European club--I forgot which.

I just noticed on the CP website the STR has a maximum rider height of 78". I wonder if that has to do with the restraints in the boats or if it is some type of clearance issue with the structure? It certainly means that LeBron won't be riding when he comes to CP.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

At this moment I feel they are unsure if the ride will open or not. I mean if they know it was going to be closed they would have told us. If they know for sure it would be open they would be advertisting more...

Time will tell. It still doesn't change the fact though that it's completely ridiculous to delay this ride again.

Maybe they keep getting ready to type it up and keep deleting, turning to the guy next to them like "sh*t that doesn't sound right..."

It has to be a tough job to break the news, twice, like this, and try and put a positive spin on it.

I just hope that whatever Cedar Point has ordered for 2011, I hope they ordered it from a different manufacturer!

Unless that's Intamin's business model...

"Since we screwed up so badly on Millennium Force, you get a discount on Top Thrill Dragster."

"Since the Top Thrill Dragster design isn't ready yet, you get a cheap Wicked Twister."

"Since we screwed up so badly on Dragster and Wicked Twister, we'll build Maverick cheap."

"Since Maverick was such a disaster, we'll give you a great deal on Shoot the Rapids"

"Since we couldn't get Shoot the Rapids to work, we'll make it up to you next year....."

I swear, it's looking like an abusive relationship!

Like a "Screw 5 up, get 1 free!" deal?

Maverick has the same maximum hight most likely due to the hight of the seat.

If they get another Intamin anything for 2011, everybody at Cedar Fair and Cedar Point needs to be fired. From Dick all the way down to the sweeps.

Perhaps the restraint would not clear a Lebron-tall head?

Because the sweeps have everything to do with a new ride. Anyways I think they should fire the Lemon Chill guy.

So that's why he's leaving Cleveland. ;)

Will Shoot the Rapids even be open for Coastermania? Now that will be depressing...

A rumour I heard at last night's ERT was that Walter Bolliger's presence at Coastermania coincides with the announcement of the new thrill ride.

Dive machine anybody??? Did Dick pull the plug on Intamin???

The saga continues.....

Roz

Rideman I needed that laugh. :) Thank you very much.

DJ, I agree with your comment about further unforeseen retrofitting. That is pretty much what I was trying to say, I just didn't do so well. Sometimes there is a bit of a domino effect with these things. Changing one component sometimes requires a change in another one.
