Steel Vengeance

The whole thing about the battle for Cedar Point is very LAME!!! Digger shooting at Maverick? C'MON!!! The coaster could have been renamed Mean Vengeance. we all knew that Mean Streak wasn't going to be completely torn down. In the Dead Rides Cemetery The lead Mean Streak car wasn't laying on it's side nor was it upside down in the grave. It was at about a 45 degree angle coming out of the grave. Blackjack, Chess and Digger could have come to Cedar Point to save Mean Streak making it Taller, Steeper, Faster, Longer and turn it's riders Head Over Heels. Bringing the coaster back not with a Mean Streak, Its back with MEAN VENGEANCE!!!! Plus preserving part of the original name of the roller coaster would have been I think pretty cool. Like the front part of Cedar Point going to the birds. Gatekeeper, Raptor and Valravn. Very Awesome Birds. :-)

Hmm, I like your spin on it. If anything, sometimes when I think about The battle for cedar point, I sometimes think it's their way of deciding which of the top 5 coasters is the most popular. XD Oi, Steel Vengeance is becoming a meme now. Just search youtube.

I'm old school Cedar Point, going back to the days when Blue Streak and Jumbo Jet were the two top roller coasters. Cedar Point never pitted those to coasters against each other. One coaster delivered great airtime and the other delivering intense g-forces. They were just fan favorites. Me personally, I loved them both. What made Jumbo Jet unique, no train restraints. What a blast that was!!!!! :-)

Well, we're worlds apart then. XD I'm new to this whole Cedar Point thing, as this is my first full year with a platinum pass. If anything, I got over my fear of coasters in 2016 with the Magnum. Honestly, the only coasters I could handle were Blue Streak and Iron Dragon. Honestly, I kind of wish I could see some of the old Cedar Point(especially watch magnum get built), but I was born in the turn of the millennium. Seriously, what was the jumbo jet like?

You can find a lot of videos of various Schwarzkopf Junbo Jets or Jet Star models. It was an exact clone of the Jumbo Jet models and very similar to the Jet Stars. Look up Jet Star 2 at Lagoon, and it was a larger version of that.

Here’s one. I can’t believe this old guy has to teach y’all how to look stuff up.

This ride was originally at BGW as Glissade. Then it went to Mexico and I believe it no longer operates.

There were a few Schwarzkopf Jumbo Jet models here and there around the US. Cedar Point marketed their ride as the “world’s fastest” coaster, at 60 mph.
Some things never change.
I thought the ride was ok, but I still prefer the smaller Jet Star coasters. While not as fast, they are more compact and a little zippier than this over-grown version. Some Jet Stars feature the electric spiral lift, and some have a chain lift, depending on the model.

I worked two doors down from Jumbo Jet and could watch it all day. When it was installed that little corner of the park got very busy which was good for our business. I remember one day the ride went down and there was a train stuck on the lift for hours. A downside to that model was no side walks for a quick and convenient evac.

You can go to Belarus and ride it!

Well, your link takes me to a Wiki article on wide body aircraft.

The very first line, "jumbo jet redirects...", click on that and then click on Cedar Point on the next page.

so it only operated for 6 years? The electric spiral lift seems pretty cool.

Apparently the ride had clearance issues and people would injure their wrists by hitting them on supports.

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

Apparently according to who?
Coasters like that operated in many places and some still do. I’ve never once heard of clearance being an issue, nor have I ever heard of injured wrists or that being a reason for its relatively short life at CP.
If anything it was either the inability to evac the ride if necessary or maybe the fact that the ride’s trains had inline seating with no restraints.

RCDB shows Maine’s Palace Playland as Jumbo Jet’s next stop, but there’s no info as to when and for how long it operated. I was always under the impression that CP acquired the ride gently used from somewhere. It looked like it to me at the time and that would’ve been typical of CP back then. Being a portable ride, maybe it toured Europe before making its way to CP, but I don’t know.

The best Schwarzkopf coasters of this style were the Speed Racers. They were permanent rides with custom layouts and had spiral lifts. I believe SFGrAm’s Whizzer is the very last example of one. It’s twin lived in California and there were similar rides at SFoT (Big Bend) and WoF (Zinger). They weren’t very high thrill, but I liked those rides a lot.

The guy at the town hall that’s always there (I don’t know his name), he seems to be very knowledgeable, but I’m not really sure how accurate he really is.

Either way, I love the old Schwarzkopf coasters, and I really wish Jumbo Jet was still at the park, as the closest thing I’ve ridden to a Jumbo Jet is the Jet Star 3 at Indiana Beach or Whizzer.

Hey, RCMAC, when you were working at CP in 70's where was the jumbo jet located at? Was it by Blue Streak? Honestly, I have NEVER been on one of those old Schwarzkopf coasters.

Yes I did.
It was in the corner where Gatekeeper is now.

Hmmm. That's quite nice. It's interesting to see what Cedar Point was like in the 70's. So, was it like a family ride or something? It looks like something everyone could ride.

No, it wasn’t. And it wouldn’t be today, either.

Okay. Then what makes a ride a family ride? lack of intensity?

Jumbo Jet had a 60" height restriction for some reason. Likely due to the ride's total lack of restraints (similar to a log flume, just a straddle bench and handrails to your sides.)

It's worth noting that the similar Tig'rr Coaster at Indiana Beach (chain lift but similar overall layout) with similar restraints3 has a 54" restriction. The larger, more drawn-out, but still sort of intense Whizzer at SFGAm has a 36" requirement with an adult and 42" by oneself. Both of the latter have seatbelts, but it's still interesting to note that the height restrictions widely vary between installations.

For what it's worth, Jumbo Jet was more intense than Wizard.
