Son Of Beast to be removed.

"You know, I never knew people had to explain themselves as to why they like a ride. But the reasons why I like Mean Streak is:

1) The look
2) The roar of the train passing by
3) The airtime provided on some hills
4) The location
5) The confusing layout
6) The parts that are retracked are smooth as glass IMO
7) Minus the trims, it gives a great ride (even after riding The Voyage)"
I know I don't post here very often, so you may take what I say with a grain of salt, but none of these reasons are concrete reasons for keeping this insulting poser of a wooden coaster around.

1) The look is about the only thing I agree with. It definitely is beautiful. But so are a ton of other wooden coasters in the world.

2) The roar of the train? Don't you mean the squeaking? There hasn't been a roar on Mean Streak in over 10 years.

3) And what airtime are you talking about? Where is this supposed "airtime"? There are maybe four instances near the end of the ride when the train is moving slowly that there's a bit of floater air, but the HUGE problem with this is that the rest of the coaster does nothing interesting. It has too many huge sweeping turns and not enough of a twister feel. The turns are completely uninteresting, so when you go for those little tiny pops of airtime that are barely existent they lose their power.

4) The location does what for this exactly? Sure the view from the lift is nice, but other than that there aren't many exciting views from the train and the queue is under the coaster. Big whoop.

5) Again, how does this enhance the ride experience on this particular ride? I get not knowing where you're going on a variety of rides, giving the feeling of disorientation. But this ride is so slow (because of forced trims due to roughness) that there is no disorientation whatsoever. Its just boring.

6) I haven't been there since they "retracked" it back in 2010. I'm only 22 and I still get back pain whenever I ride this thing.

7) I just have to completely disagree with this statement overall. This coaster has not aged well at all. Its not even close to the top wooden coaster in the state let alone the entire chain of parks. I would put The Beast, Shivering Timbers, and The Racer all ahead of this thing (I haven't been to many Cedar Fair parks outside of CP, KI, and MiA.

Cedar Point could do so much better with a GCI or Intamin Prefab, that had a ton of airtime, has a similar beauty, and can get more than the current poor ridership that Mean Streak currently has.

Heck I would throw Blue Streak in that as well

Zach's Zoomer, Wolverine Wildcat and whatever they are calling KI's kiddie woodie nowadays are ranked higher in my book then MS.

Favorite Wood: 1. Balder (Liseberg), 2. Boulder Dash (Lake Compounce), 3. Voyage (Holiday World), 4. Phoenix (Knoebels) 5. The Beast (Kings Island)

FavoriteSteel:1.Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park) 2. Rita (Alton Towers) 3.Magnum XL-200 (CP) 4. Nemisis (Alton Towers) 5. X (SFMM)

Maverick00, then the next time the topic comes up about CP needing to can Mean Streak, I'll point out to you how many people talk about the excessive amounts of money put into Mean Streak every year opposed to all other woodies out there.

Fastdawg, I'm not a fan of salt, so take that for what its worth.

2) Squeaking? Either your hearing aid needs new batteries, or you haven't been on Mean Streak recently. The only place I know of it squeaking is around the turn out of the station leading to the lift. Other than that, when its flying overhead, its roar is almost equivalent to that of Millennium Force

3) I feel like you answered your question in your rant. Not to mention, airtime is provided after the turn around above the lifthill, the hill before the MCBR, and you already stated, the last 4 hills of the ride.

4) The placement along Perimeter Road is what I'm talking about "dawg". Nobody is talking about the placement of the queue. As for the view, Mean Streak gives a great view of that side of the bay that Maverick or any other surrounding ride can't provide

5) Those are all of your opinions my dude. You have a right to your own opinions just as much as I do. Ride at night, then you'll know what I'm talking about

6) Please stop! I'm dying over here now. If you haven't ridden MS since 2010, then why are you even commenting to me right now? Hahahaha

7) The Beast is my 2nd favorite woodie, The Voyage is my first. So I agree with you that they are better. However, my argument isn't that Mean Streak is one of the best woodies, my argument is that Mean Streak is a good ride for those who love the rough feel of wooden coasters. It also has the potential to be an outstanding ride, but they aren't done with the retracking (which they started at the end of the 2010 season).

I'm just strictly giving my opinions and speaking from experience. Until you ride Mean Streak after 2 years, I would advise for your argument to stay underwraps

I thought they were only re-tracking on a two year deal?

Pretty sure the retracking is all done. That said, Mean Streak might be a good coaster for those who like rough wooden coasters but that is a SMALL amount of people, especially when it comes to the general public.

Corkscrew Follies's avatar

Especially considering how much money they spend on MS every year for that small amount of people.

I was under the impression it was a 4 year deal. But am I the only one here who rode it this year? The lines have been decent and the ride experience is not nearly as rough as it one was.

If you guys were CEOs, it would be gone. Unfortunately for you and your high hopes, it probably won't be leaing the park for a very long time. The End.

I haven't ridden that thing in at least ten years, and would not ever ride it again even if someone paid me $50. The ride it's just not worth re-injuring my back yet again.

I have waited 30 minutes for the ride 2 times this year. I wouldn't say that it has a small amount of people riding it.

It's essentially like a good beer for people who like crappy beer...

...Except that a majority of people seem to enjoy crappy beer.

Maybe a sponsorship with Busch Light would help?

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Nope, PBR would fit nicely.

Sure you did.

According to you. According to others, the ride experience is just as rough as it's always been, depending on where or how you sit on the train.

99er nailed it - the amount of people who truly enjoy a ride that rough is likely minuscule. Any modern wooden coaster in that spot would be an enormous improvement.

If you guys were CEOs, it would be gone. Unfortunately for you and your high hopes, it probably won't be leaing the park for a very long time. The End.

That may be true of those here who think RCT teaches them all they need to know about park management. But many who understand that the park is a business wouldn't be so obtuse.

If the cost/rider figures, along with whatever other considerations are made, support MS' existence, then it should stay. Though I'd be surprised if MS is around for a "very long time".

Something tells me this latest round of extensive track work was the last major work you'll see on it. I'm sure year-to-year track maintenance will continue, but the ride is already 21 years old. I can't imagine it'll be around for more than 10 more years.

Brandon

Instead of taking mine or other's words for it, why don't you guys ride it yourselves and see, instead of assuming?

No thank you, walked right by it again yesterday.

Yeah, no thanks. On its best day, MS isn't a very compelling ride in my opinion, unless I'm simply admiring it from my LHP patio, drink in hand. I gave MS one last chance a few years ago, and regretted it greatly.

Brandon

Back on topic, what exactly was wrong with SOB? I remember hearing about people getting hurt on it and the loop was removed but I don't know any details about why it was so bad and closed.

Just another example of a poorly designed wooden coaster.

^^The Son of Beast roller coaster was manufactured by Roller Coaster Corporation of America. The company is now defunct, mainly due to their reputation for building poor coaster structures. In 2006, part of the structure cracked, and riders were injured. Engineers determined that the ride would need lighter trains. The loop had to be taken out because the original heavier trains were designed to go through the loop. In 2009, some lady claimed the ride gave her a popped brain blood vessel or something like that. The ride never reopened.
