Sky scraper and go karts leaving

Have they focused the webcam on the area of where the Challenge Park go-carts are at? I'm anxious to see if there is actual construction going on over there?

Why don't you just go to cedarpoint.com and find out?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

If anything is going on I would assume this would just be a demo year. Like the theater last off season. Regardless if demolition is currently going on people will see at Winter Chill Out unless they completely avoid that area and prevent access. But if I had to bet a nickel some sort of announcement will occur at winter chill out, even if it's just confirming the removal of those attractions. Patience is a virtue!

Unless they want us to know of plans ahead of any planned released date for said plans, they're not (more specifically Tony) going to turn the webcam or tease us in any way. Tony has said that there are going to be things released during the Winter Chill Out that have not been announced yet.

So let's just hang tight till then.......yes? :)

Not to be rude, but when I do check out the webcams, it's usually dark. When I check them out on the weekends, they have the camera pointed in familiar spots that we're used to. As Adam said, I guess I'll just have to hold my horses.

To clarify some misinformation from earlier in this thread....

1) In the USA it is perfectly legal to take pictures of private property against the property owner's wishes if the photographer is taking those pictures from a place he is authorized to be, such as adjacent public property. Unlike in some countries, you do not need someone's consent to photograph them or their property assuming the subject being photographed is visible from a public place. For example, if you climb a tree to photograph your neighbor sunbathing nude in their backyard, this is perfectly legal and you are the legal copyright holder of the photograph. There is plenty of case law involving paparazzi that has upheld this fact.

2) Cedar Point does not have any claim to or control over the "Airspace" above the property. Any licensed aircraft operator may fly over, hover over, or circle over the peninsula (and legally take photographs) to their heart's content provided they adhere to applicable FAA regulations. As long as they are at least 1000 feet above ground level and 2000 feet horizontally from taller structures (such as the coasters) OR as long as they are at least 1000 feet above the highest structure within 2000 feet horizontally of their position. AND, if the pilot is offshore and the offshore area is not congested, they only need to be 500 feet above any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure. So, a pilot could hug CP's shoreline at 500 feet to their heart's content. Any photographs taken in any of these scenarios would be perfectly legal, and the photographer would be the copyright holder of those photographs and free to publish, sell, distribute them entirely as they wish.

None of this is intended to negate Walt's point about someone taking unauthorized photographs while on CP's property and his not wanting to distribute photographs of confidential subjects obtained through deceptive means.

So if I was to fly a drone over CP within regulations and snap some pics it would be ok? :P

I havent seen the cams pointed in that direction for a while now.

Not over CP, but over the lake pointed at CP. They have a drone policy on their website:

All drones (Unmanned Aerial Systems) are prohibited at (in) all Cedar Fair parks, including Cedar Point, and any unauthorized drone(s) observed over Cedar Point will be reported to the FAA and local law enforcement, regardless of its point of origin or operation. Drones may pose a potential safety risk and may violate Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Yeh, thats what I was getting at. If I was to get close enough with a boat and fly a drone up high enough to get a snap shot, LOL!

Take this with a GIANT grain of salt. This development really intrigues me.

From what I have been told, RipCord and SkyScraper will be relocated inside the main park. Where? I don't know. The go kart tracks will be removed and the miniature golf will see its last season in 2016.

As for what is replacing it, I've been told a few things, including Soak City expansions, dark ride, and an eventual wooden roller coaster, not all in this area, of course. Again, take all of this with a huge grain of salt. I consider my source very knowledgable, but for the sake of their employment, I can't divulge too much more. Let's just say, this person has been right on the nail for the past 5-6 seasons. But, please, keep this as speculation.

Guess Ill hit the mini golf this summer just in case.

As far as sky scraper being relocated I am not 100% about. The pictures I have show the main structure falling where the go karts are located. There will be a Soak City expansion as well in 2017, and have not heard what is happening to the rip cord!

If true, that's very saddening.

Unless they're replacing it with an even taller, faster one. :)

New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

^^Ripcord will be open this year. I got hired for it today :)

Were you notified of where its location will be?

I'd like to see them place it where the pirate building is. That way you can add more traffic to Blue Streak Midway. But that's just me.

Are you implying that all of those additions are coming in 2017, or are they spread out over the next few years? Because that would be an expensive year if we are getting a woodie, Soak City expansion and a dark ride.

Where would Ripcord even fit inside the park?

First ride; Magnum 1994

To my knowledge skycoasters are not owned by the parks they are in but rather leased. This is how Skycoaster as a company controls the training for the attractions. To be a site controller you have to pass their training and be certified. IF Ripcord is being removed it could be replaced by a different style attraction. Like the skinnier towers you see at parks like Kennywood. Not taking up nearly as much space as the one currently on property. Just wild speculation though.
