A shopping district would be a non-starter, but a small area with restaurants and a shop or two might be a nice addition.

Sadly, the only area of the park I see that could currently hold such an area is where Sandcastles currently stands. I think that part of the park could cater to both the LIghthouse Point and Breakers crowd (with the beach path leading back there). BTW, does Sandcastle Suites ever reach capacity stay during July (with its 180 suites) like the Breakers does around the 4th of July? Just curious. There doesn't seem to be alot of room on the Lake side of the Peninsula (at least for erecting a new venue) to accommodate night time activities (other than the beach) which is starting to be utilized more with bands,cornhole,etc.

Also I mentioned in the "Long Term Parking" thread about the possibility of future development on the Bay/marina side of the peninsula (adding to the land next to Cedars when it's demo'd) with that part of the marina being filled in with dirt. It would certainly cater to the marina crowd and I do think the Breakers guests would be willing to make the trek across the midway for some night life. There lies the double edge sword I guess, location.

I will disagree. To me, it would make the most sense to put this imaginary district on the Lake Erie side of the peninsula, taking advantage of foot traffic leaving or going to the park. There's going to be more people staying on that side than by the Marina; put the place where most of the people are.

Imo, any sort of restaurant/shopping district on the peninsula will be a tough sell. You're going to be limiting yourself to probably 90%+ of your customer base being only people who are on the peninsula for the park, which limits your market a lot. To me, it would make more sense just to add 2 or 3 restaurants on the resort side of the peninsula, with at least one offering some sort of night life atmosphere.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if a massive makeover to Sandcastle is already in the works. The hotel is mediocre at best, and there's so much potential given its location alone.

Yes, and open up that beach. I've been to ocean city, Virginia beach, mentor headlands (ohio), chincoteague beach (Maryland), and other ohio beaches, and all those beaches are open for swimming. CP beach is one of the largest beaches in ohio and it's just a big sandbox.
