Shoot the Rapids - Height Limits

Or, they could of just built a log flume like white water landing but maybe a little taller or longer. You know...something you don't get soaked on.

Just a crazy idea.....

Yeah, or build Maverick on Millennium Island instead of STR, preserving WWL and a few trees.

I'd be surprised if you ever see a traditional log flume go into any large park ever again. Not in this day and age of lawyers.

Unless they made them with those child proof seat belts.

The only thing I don't get is why do they have Snake River Falls if they have Shoot the Rapids? The only thing different on STR is it has another hill. I would have liked to see a log flume but sometimes they are a little awkward sitting in. I think a Mack Rides water coaster would have been the way to go but we got STR so it is better than nothing.

Ok, so will STR handle "guests of exceptional size" like me?

This question has yet to be answered, I would like to know as well!

I never heard about any issues with people riding Pilgrim's Plunge. There have been a few different events there too. So, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

If you want a park for families with small(er) children, Kings Island has pretty much been #1 in Ohio since...well...1972. They even have a log flume with a lower height requirement!

I was on the observation platform waiting from 9:00 for the ride to open, my son was near the front of the ride line. At that time the state was still doing their instection. STR finally opened to the public at 11:30. Anyway, while I was waiting numerous members of the front office were from time to time talking with guests. I overheard one of them tell a guest that the state had just changed the height requirement. He was not one of the top executives and since I only overheard him, I won't give his name. Later when I was talking to this guest he mentioned the new height restriction. He was disapointed as his children fall into the 42 inch range and won't be able to ride now.

I'm actually curious to hear what guidlines the state uses to determine height limits.

And I won't be surprised at all if it's an arbitrary number pulled from the inspectors ass.

Two points...

Point #1: Someone brought up the Wave Swinger at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. That is NOT the exact same ride as the one at Cedar Point. Busch Gardens has a few double seats on theirs, and riders under 48" tall are required to sit in the double seats along with their supervising companions.

Point #2: The height requirement for Pilgrims Plunge is 47".

What I can tell you is that from an industry standards perspective, rides fall into three categories. There are rides designed for children, which accommodate riders under 48" in height; there are adult rides, which accommodate riders over 48" tall, and there is a third group of rides which are designed for adults but can also accommodate riders under 48" tall. This third group is perhaps the most diverse collection of amusement rides out there, ranging from stuff like the Small World boats at Disney to some of the more aggressive roller coasters. There is an effort underway to develop industry standards for restraints and rider requirements based on these three ride categories, and the standards setting effort has been bogged down on this category for quite some time. Cedar Fair participates in the process, and in recognition of the fact that Ohio generally adopts industry standards into law, tries to harmonize its company policies with the industry standard. Sometimes, in recognition of the work of the manufacturers and committees, they actually adopt standards that are not yet approved, in some cases based on language that is still being debated.

At CP, sure some of the kids seem bummed they can't ride things, but the PARENTS are the ones that make a scene and get really aggravated.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

^^ Thats what I thought but I wasn't going to say anything because i wasn't 100% sure. They have the extra straps on the double seats to keep the young one in.

Here is the busch gardens swing ride...

Here is the cedar point swing ride......

Same ride, except that busch offers a few of the double seats on there version. Cedar point does not. As to why cp does not, is a mystery.

RGR, you're right. I'm sure I'm more disappointed than Jacob is about waiting until next year to ride. My frustration comes from the fact that this is another ride that we'll have to use parent swap when 5 years ago CP had a similar ride that we wouldn't have to do if it were here today (WWL).

We're still going to be going to the park. Although I have to admit I'm not as enthusiastic about going since this doesn't seem to be a good WWL replacement. When the boys get older we'll probably go to the park more than we do now. For the time being we hit up HW, KW, Waldameer, and even KI if we want to do more of the kiddie stuff. Don't get me wrong I understand the areas like Planet Snoopy and Camp Snoopy have been added for the kids, but it would be nice to have more attractions that we can enjoy together and it doesn't seem that long ago that there were more stuff for families to do together as I was growing up.

But yeah, I'm guessing its gotta be pretty crazy to see how things have changed since you last saw me. Heh.

^^Well not many of them have the double seats. A child below 48" (i think) have to sit in one of those with an adult.

Exactly...a child below 48" CAN ride this ride. Busch actualy has the seats for kids to be able to ride...cedar point does not. Why not?

They(cedar point) needs to get some more rides to satisfy the 42" crowd. Not just kiddie rides.

There is not much that we can ride together as a family, and I can't stuff myself into the kiddie coasters anymore. Right now, cedar point just does not offer much for our family. That's why I said it's not a good value for us. Add in the high food and drink prices, and that just seals the deal on not taking the family there anymore.

We can go to six flags, get on a hell of a lot more rides together as a family, better deals on food and drink as well. They have a deal at six flags where you can get 4 drinks(with free refills all day), 4 burgers or a ton of chicken strips, 4 fries...all for $39.00. I don't want to change the subject of this thread, but when you add that value in, with the fact that we can ride a LOT more together...six flags beats cedar point hands down.

I got our family season passes for both six flags and cedar fair this year. It cost me $150 to get 3 season passes for six flags plus another $40 for parking at all of there parks. There are a ton of things we can ride together, they offer deals on food as well. Not a bad deal.

I spent nearly $400.00 on 3 passes to cedar fair, and we can't even ride much together. Add in the scam at the food locations in the park, and I am very unhappy. If I went to the park by myself it's a good time, but for a family, it is just not that great of a value.

^ 28 of their rides can accommodate families w/ children below 42".

Why would Cedar Point add 2 seaters? They have the Lolli Swings in Camp snoopy.

If you don't think the park can accommodate your needs, stop complaining and just take your money somewhere else.

And that's what I just said that I was doing....did you not just read what I just said?

And your wrong on the count of rides we can ride together. This is the correct list...

Sky ride, paddlewheel, calypso, dodgem, matterhorn, monster, ocean motion, scrambler, himalaya, troika,(I count the next 3 as 1 because they are the same ride) cad cars- turnpike cars -and antique cars, giant wheel, tilt a whirl.

That's 14 rides out of how many ...75? The rest of the rides that she can get on are all kiddie rides or rides we can't all fit in because of the size of the ride car. And all of the spinning rides like himalaya and calypso, all do the same thing.....spin in circles.

Like I said...I will go to the park because I like the coasters. But I will not be bringing my family back to cedar point for a while.
