Processing

I hear a lot of people giving their processing dates on these forums, and I understand that these are the dates that people will be coming into work, but what all is involved in "processing"? What kind of day will I have when I process? What should I wear and what should I expect? Also, will they tell me where to go my first day upon arrival? Thanks for your help! :) -Diana

Well, "processing in" is just that, a process...and it can kind of be a lengthy one, too. Depending on when your start date is, you can expect to wait in some long lines, including ones that go out the door to outside, so wear clothes that are appropriate for the weather (last summer when I processed in in April it was FREEZING, so I was glad I had my coat with me!) The long lines can be a good thing, though, since you can meet other employees and make friends right away -- I met someone right in line that ended up being one of my roommates last summer.

What you'll do first is go to the Human Resources office (HR) and give them your contract, your documentation (birth certificate, social security card, etc.). You'll wait while the clerk goes through your file to make sure you have all the paperwork turned in that allows you to work. You may have to sign some forms, and they will give you an overview of the things you need to complete that day; show you locations on the park map where you need to go, etc. You may be assigned a time to meet for an orientation session later in the week -- new employees can expect something like this. Next, you'll scoot on down the line and get your picture taken for your ID; it prints out automatically so they'll hand you that and you're on to your next stop. (When they print out your ID, check the barcode on the back to make sure the lines aren't broken -- if they are, let one of the clerks know because you might have problems with it and they can print you a new one).

The next place you'll visit is wardrobe, where you get to wait in another long line to get your uniforms. The clerks will ask you what department you work for and get you the appropriate outfits, then you have to try them on and "model" them for the clerk to make sure they fit right. You may have to purchase a few little accessory-type things here that aren't re-used year after year (for example, a belt), but don't worry, you don't need money because they'll take it right out of your first paycheck if you want.

Next, you'll check into Housing. Depending on where you want to live, you may have to get back in your car and drive all the way off-Point again. You'll go to the Housing office of wherever you want to live and wait in yet another line for your room and key. Then you can cart all of your things into your room and meet your new roommates.

In between all this somewhere you also will be checking in with your department to let them know you've arrived and getting your first schedule.

I know this sounds like a lot of stuff to remember, but don't worry, everyone is very helpful at HR and they will explain it all to you so that you're certain of what you have to do. As well, you'll be getting a list of instructions with your contract that will tell you what you need to bring along to process in.

Good luck!

Wow, that was an extremely helpful post, Lee. I can see it now...all of us 1st season employees will know what we're doing and where we're going on process day :).

It was faster when I processed in as all I had to do was show my contract at the commons apartments and go to HR the next day to get my parking pass and ID. And to go to my assigned work area in foods! How things have changed...

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

I wonder what the words on the stamps would be?

make sure you are good with maps or you could spend hours looking for some of the places you are supposed to go.

Remember each dpt has a diff procedure and if you ask questions, everybody at hr or even in line sometimes will always be willing to do everything they can to make your experience better and more efficient(or at least they should...that is our job anyway well)...READ and REREAD the checklist...i forgot that my first year, and i had to go through a whole rigamarole to get it all taken care of before i could start...so a moment of preparation is equivalent to 10 min or more of saved time.
How am I supposed to show them my contract when I mailed it in?

you sent them one copy then u kept the yellow part. if you do not have acopy they have yor folder. all yo need is identifaction like an id of some sort. my big advice is just get there as early as possible. most get in around mid morning and it stays like that till about mid afternoon you can go to hr at 8 am and have everything done by like 10-because in most departments you will drugged tested-so don't eat those poppy seed muffins lol! well atleastpark op drug tests-and then we get drugged tested like every week.....
You get drug tested every week? Like drawing blood every week?

crashoverride, all you have to do for the drug test is pee in a little cup the day you process in. I don't know what djdj means, but that most likely will be the only drug test you have to take. Towards the end of the season, they start random drug tests, so don't think that once you pass it the first time, you can do whatever you want.

Hey, where exactly is the Human Resources office located?

When you arrive at CP and get to the gate.. Just tell them you are there to process in and they will direct you to HR. It's in the parking lot next to Bay Harbor.

Thanks, I got a few more questions. Do you have to pay for parking when coming onto the point, and if you do, will you get reimbursed? Also, my parents are going to help me move in. Would you suggest I go and process in and then call them when I'm ready to move in and they can bring my stuff so they won't have to wait on me while I wait? They will only be like a 1/2 hour away. Thanks!
