Past Employees: What was your favorite...

I remember my first week of working I was invited to go to soak city during my split. I didn't end up going, but it was nice to be part of the Mean Streak team right off from the start.

My favorite was getting into the park free
my least favorite was my boss being an a**

2003 Fridays on the Beach

The Best:
All of the awesome people that I have met and the great stories I will have to tell forever.

The Worst:
95 degree days with no air conditioning!

Hey Adam!

This post is bringing out a few of the long-lost oldbies, eh?

My favorite thing about working at CP was the people I met, indubitably. I made some friends there who I still keep in touch with every once in awhile. It's funny to think about how I have changed since my first year working there in 1999. As weird as it is, I also liked the long hours and the actual job itself.

My least favorite was probably the living conditions. There are 2 things that I've found that I need to be happy. 1) internet and 2) privacy. Both of those things were found on a VERY limited basis in CP housing.

Favorite: living right next to the greatest park in the world and using the Gemini as my morning cup of coffee! Back then, none of the other big coasters were built yet.

2nd Favorite: the pizza at the old Rec. For $.90 you got a small plain pizza, hand made, and delicious!

Least Favorite: sweating to DEATH in the Cedars with no A/C

Faves:

1. Working on the Frontier Trail. 'Way back when in the 20th Century, the temps out there under the trees averaged about 10 deg. lower than those on the Main Midway.

2. Opportunity to become a confirmed Coaster Junkie. Still love 'em.

3. The day I had 3 dates -- beach in AM, in-park ride goofiness in afternoon, late dinner & drinks in PM. Ladies, if your ego has been battered for any reason, CP is the place to help it heal!

Hated:

1. Working on the Frontier Trail. 10 hrs/day, 6 days/week *alone* in the Blacksmith Shop with nobody to talk to except ani... uh, guests cackling, "Are *you* the blacksmith, honey?" when I was an obvious GIRL wearing sorta bib-overall hot pants-type things. It wasn't funny the first time, and was downright agonizing by EOS.

2. Non-stop allergens -- mildew in dorms, pollen in everything.

3. Low pay & no time-&-1/2 for overtime.

4. Management attitude of "Don't like it? Quit. We can replace your sorry tuchis in 30 seconds." I'm sure that's made us *all* feel like valued members of the CP family. I hope to goodness that's changed.

It has not. I think it may have only gotten worse.

Back in '76 and into the late 80's they COULD replace you on a moments notice. Today that doesn't quite hold true.

I have relayed this before but I'm told of years when CP would go recruiting at college campuses and, literally, hundreds of students would show up vying for the chance to work at the Point. In the mid-90's I went on recruiting trips where we were lucky if 20 people came by on a particular day.

My favorite things: 1)The way that Cedar Point and school balanced quite nicely. When school was over it was time to go back to work and vise versa. 2)The people I got to meet from all over the world. 3) Meeting my current boyfriend in First Aid 4 years ago. :)

My least favorite: 1)The party like atmosphere 24/7, especially my last year. 2) The drama that I always seemed to get my stupid self into. 3) The way the park has changed in my eyes. Used to I could spend a whole day there and not want to leave. Now I can drive an hour and half, go in for 2 hours and ride what I want, and then leave.

I would like to know more about these attacking birds. I am planning on bringing my 18 month old daughter to Camp Snoopy this summer and don't want her or us to get attacked by birds!!

They really aren't much to worry about. Their tempers really only come out early in the season while their babies are still young. If you steer clear of their nests (which shouldn't be hard) then you'll be fine. Plus some of the seagulls only got after ponytails. I was going to work one morning and had on attack my ponytail.

Then there was a night in August (i think) 1977. There was a wicked thunderstorm that evening that drove most of the Animals out of the park. We eventually closed early. One of the cashiers from one of the Main Kitchen restaurants asked me to drive her to Cash Control. We left the loading dock and got just clear of the Food Warehouse when we were stopped in our tracks by trees COMPLETELY covering the road! A tornado had just blown through Camper Village and the backside of the park! All those blown down trees just gave the Construction folks a head start, though. That winter CP built the Gemini where all those trees had been.

I wasn't there for that event, but I've heard *loads* about it. Two people told me that, during the general animal stampede for the gates, they were ordered to stay at their work places. So they *watched* the funnel clouds bearing down on them, standing on their rubber mats "to protect them from lightning."

Hey, have a fun day, right?

One of these people was in Ops. The other was in Food Service. It's good to know that the instructions were consistent between departments -- that seldom happened back then.

I heard CP saved a bundle because insurance paid to clear the fallen trees. You know, that was about the time the serious Coaster Wars began. Maybe CP management decided that God was on their side! Now, by golly, the place is a major international coaster junkie destination.

"a major international coaster junkie destination". That might be a good tagline for next year's commercial. :)

Favorites: The nice 140 foot climb to saftey 1 at 930 AM, just to push a button, the stairs themselves were just a pain, but the view of the park starting up in the morning just incredible. sitting in stockade on a 45 minute break, and just chattin with the sups. walkdowns with OZ, and hanging out with the streakers on platform, with no riders.

Least Favorite: Girls that just cant make up thier minds, guests with cameras, new loose article policy(why cant people leave things in a locker)

Best CP guest question ever "what is a non-rider"

even better, having to actually answer him "someone who isn't riding"

Actually. being back at Mean Streak is a long way from the nearest locker. I've been back there many times with my camera and wanted to ride, but didn't wish to walk to the lockers (which are up by Snake or TC if I remember correctly).

I really think they ought to put in some lockers back by Mean Streak.

Well bholcomb, due to the new loose articles policy this year, you were alowed to leave any loose articles you choose on the exit side of the platform before boarding. Though cedar point is not responsible for anythong lost damaged or stolen, i never saw anything taken or damaged while you ride. so you technically didnt have to leave it in a locker.
