Past Employees: What was your favorite...

<<I would like to know more about these attacking birds. I am planning on bringing my 18 month old daughter to Camp Snoopy this summer and don't want her or us to get attacked by birds!!>>

Unfortunately, there is no way to promise that you won't get attacked. The biggest problem was in the area near Millenium Force, but as I said above the first time I was ever attacked was in Camp Snoopy. They just swoop down right on your head and attack you. Usually it's the employees they go after, for some strange reason. I didn't know guests had been attacked, until I saw Rider's post above. All you can do is just take your chances...don't let it ruin your day though, worrying about it.

Oh yeah, those Mayflies and Muffleheads West Coast...you think they're bad to deal with? Well, what if you are cleaning the bathrooms, and in the morning there is a two inch thick layer of them covering everything - sinks, floor, toilets...*shudder* If people saw what some of the restrooms would look like in the morning before all of the bugs were cleared away...yeah. Sometimes I wish Cedar Point would be turned into an indoor park...there is way too much nature there! ;-)

In soak city the sea gull problem was mainly before the park opened while we were getting everything set up. Once things got going, they leaved us alone. I figure in April and May we were probably getting too close to their eggs or chicks.

The other black birds, I never heard of anyone actually getting hit or pecked by one until one of the posts further up. They could get annoying but I would hate to call them dangerous.

Does anyone have any pictures of those birds? I think the were barn swallows, but I'm not positive. You aren't talking about the black birds with the bright yellow, orange, and red tips on the wings are you? Those were pretty peaceful.

Are you talking about Red Winged Black birds? They tend to live in areas where water is close and have a distinctive song. I grew up around those guys and they can be very aggresive!

I think my favorite experience at CP was a night where me and my fellow employees at the Coffee Shop in Hotel Breakers just hung out on the beach all night after a shift, complete with skinny-dipping in the Employee Beach and watching the sun rise over Lake Erie. That's still one of the greatest nights of my life.

Like I said... I was in the park for CoasterMania when it happened, so it was arround 8 in the morning. It happened to me twice in front of Millennium Force and I saw the birds go after another guest (but I wasn't in the area long).

Before this post it was my only experence with the problem and I can only guess that when the park is more busy they would rather hide from all the people. So nothing to worry about on a normal day for guests.

2007: Wicked Twister TL
2006: Disaster Transport ATL
2005: Raptor

Too many in three years to list them all...some highlights-

Good-My Drag-a-licious Gemini Crew, me and Jake's Thursday night Dutch runs, having a fun day off with some crew members, lazy river w/ chi chi during splits, dumping water on kids heads at Splash Zone, Bayside Barbeques...

You know what, this is my first season in three years that I'm not going back, and as stupid as it may sound, typing about all these good times is upsetting me, because those three summers were the best summers of my life. And to know that I can't have another one tears my heart out. There is nothing like working at CP, it's not just a job, it's a way of life. Once it's in you, there's no getting over it. At least not for me. Maybe I just got lucky, but nothing could ever top last summer. NOTHING. Screw the bad times, the good times beat the bad ones hands down. Gemmies, if you ever see this, PLAY BALL! (bug bites on my butt for a month. oww!)

Working with such awesome people... Larry Scott comes to mind! :)

Favorites: Getting paid to tan for about 3 months straight, gotta love being a lifeguard.

Meeting some cool people.

Making the often tedious job of working tops of slides (Feet first, legs crossed at the ankles, hands behind your head, wait for the green light) fun by either trying to say it a single sylable, or my favorite "Welcome to the Raptor" really seemed to make the guests laugh.

Least Favorite: Working O-C 6 days a week for the first month of the season, working in the rain with about 20 people in our park, "tops onlys" (think only guards get that one). Working for less than the minimum wage back home.

Soak City East '04
Soak City ???? '05

wow so many good and bad memories of working at the point it is tough to pick just one or 2. but i will try.

favs - being able to work there and meeting such great people over the years. having some great times in our housing apartment: my stitches being molested.. (1006 '03) my blow up pool in the living room. riding ttd 40 times in a row for the commercial shoot. guests wondering why paddlewheel had a rating of 2 and us showing them why hehe

least favs - dealing with arguing guests when you know they are wrong, at pt entrance and being asked 50 times in a 1/2 hr where the corkscrew entrance is (and telling some of them its around matterhorn) haha :) guests riding on pt DURING the laser show, coming back down and asking when it starts. and everying asking us at the end of '02 what the park was building in the big area across from us.

Power Tower/Paddlewheel 2003

People, get used to it. You are there EVERY DAY. Most guests spend a day or 2 at the park.

Shut up, suck up and get used to that type of stuff if you ar working there to serve. Which you better be. Customer Service should be #1. If you disagree with that, quit. Who wants or needs you anyway?

ha nice take off the reply which i gave to mrscott.. so much for free posting and speech

Favorite: Trackwalks on Magnum, and working with my crew making really awesome friends.

Least: Trying to explain the no loose article policy on Magnum and people telling me I was trying to make money off them I only wished I was paid of comission from locker use.

Well, there was a giant wall around an area. What do you expect? Guests aren't going to be curious? That and asking for ride entrances and you mouthing off. Lovely customer service.

Favorite: Guests asking me if they would get wet, or "Is there any water on this ride" while sitting at the entrance of Blue Streak! Getting to the park early and waiting in line for MF before the Joe Cool people, Rating girls who came onto the ride....The day Jules fired up a turnpike car and it took off, crashing thru Raptor's fence and into Cedar Downs, and Matt's response to the question of "Why isnt raptor running"..I dont know, but it might have something to do with a turnpike car sitting here at Cedar Downs...

Dislikes...the excessive and completely childish drama. Getting woke up at 5 am by a fire alarm because someone didnt know how to cook. Sups and managers who like the make mountains out of mole hills. Losing my Woodstock Express 5th anniversary pin on Magnum and someone working the ride swiping it. I KNOW someone took it because I know where it was, (in a low zone), and I was told it was never found. Richard the bus driver....

Favorites; Empty park walks late at night, my crew and I raising @#$% at Meijers at 2 in the morning, Employee ride nights (nobody screamed on the rides), meeting life long friends that I will NEVER forget. Sorry bholcomb, back when I worked there, I had AWESOME managers in park operations.

Worst: CLEANING UP PUKE!, having tall kids squat-walk through the entrance and laugh saying "am I tall enough"? Stupid guest questions like "when will the ride be up and running again?, why is it down?, when will the rain stop?, where is Magnum Force (uh, Flamingoland...)?, how long is the line at Magnum (I am at Raptor)" And yes the all famous laser light show question

I agree with just about everything here, also making the new life long friends was great.

Thought this topic was so good I came out of hiding, havent posted on this site in probably 2 years.

I know my favorite would have to be the amazing tan I got being a guard in 98 , 99, and 01 .

My least favorite would have to be stupid , stinky foreigners and even dumber guests.

wally you suck , and oh yeah i made out with your girl!!!

Favorite- The friends I made, getting in to the park, the guests, the long hrs, the 76 mile drive to and from work, ride nights, big bash, beach parties, christmas in July.

Least- Working Skyride refreshments at night (studip lazer show), the guests, O-C'ing 6 days a week at the end of the season, being the only person working at Surrey refreshments in August, the long hrs, hearing the Op on Cedar Downs say "Don not stand up, ride side saddle or intentionaly rock your horse at anytime. All single riders must ride in the front saddle and remain in the front saddle for the entire ride," and repeat it until the guests figured out he was talking to them.

Some guests were great others just plain dumb.

Hey Aaron, Doug, Wendy, Rikki, Annette and Mary love ya all.
