Oh boy... here comes the religious debate.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Dobson/Focus on the Family fan, and I'm not a big fan of Chick-fil-a giving money to them, but they give money to other worthwhile causes such as Athletes in Action. It would be nice to see them giving money to other charities such as Compassion International or the ONE Campaign.
As far as the Sunday closing goes, I support Truett Cathy's decision to have her restaurant closed on Sunday. She is the owner of the company, and she is free to follow her convictions. If you don't like them, then don't work for the company. People are so loud to insist that people should be able to believe what they want, and scream when someone is intolerant of someone elses beliefs, but then people seem intolerant of the fact that a Christian wants to have their restaurants closed on Sundays.
Ok.. thats my contribution to the debate.

1st. Truett Cathy is a male.
2nd I have no problem with the Closed on Sunday thing, actually I think it's a great idea, everyone needs some down time.
It's the "giving money to groups who preach intolerance" thing where I draw the line. Sorry, it's my hard earned cash, and I refuse to give it to a group who fires people because of their religious beliefs or sexual orientation.
You are still free to spend your cash where you would like, Cedar Point is still in the United States.
If being closed on Sundays works for them, who cares? In an era of corporate greed and crooked CEO's, it's refreshing to see a business run by a different set of standards. If you don't care for who they make charitable contributions to, or think it's stupid to be closed on Sundays, don't eat there. But don't get on some sort of high horse and act like they're morally beneath you.
It's times like this when people whining about religious "intolerance" make themselves sound intolerant.

Wow. I knew Chick-Fil-A was a religious company and I actually liked them for standing up for their beliefs. I thought it was refreshing they gave people Sunday off because they thought it was important to worship God. I have no problems with that.
But, I won't be going to Chick-Fil-A anymore no matter how much I love their food. I didn't realize they supported James Dobson. Like Mike, I won't help support any company that feels certain groups of people don't deserve the same rights and freedoms that everyone else has.
Why, just look at the horrible way he runs his company! Scandalous!
You guys are using your own intolerance to make a non-existent connection that because one of the many charities this man (or perhaps corporation) makes a contribution to is one that doesn't align with your personal beliefs, therefore the Chick-fil-A company itself hates freedom as a matter of corporate policy. They probably kill kittens, too.
Again, you can choose to eat wherever you want, for whatever reason you want. But it would be easier to digest your point without the nose-in-the-air attitude that beliefs different than your own aren't valid.

How is it "nose in the air" to not support a company that feels I shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else. Its obvious that Cathy has strong beliefs and does everything he can to support them. I think that's great. I also think the "recipe for success" he uses is amazing. However, a part of that recipe involves supporting an organization that strongly opposes who I am. Its obvious Cathy knows who he donates money to and believes in the same qualities of the companies he supports. So, why on Earth would I support someone like that? I don't think that's intolerant at all.
You support Cathy because he sticks to his guns and supports his beliefs. Yet, you call me an elitist because I support who I am? How does that make ANY sense?
Panda Express is a perfect fit for Frontier Trail. The Chinese had a big hand in building the Old West (Railroads anyone). I guess no one paid attention in school when this was taught.
Your quote was:
I won't help support any company that feels certain groups of people don't deserve the same rights and freedoms that everyone else has.
Based only on his contributions to one group, you make the leap that the company itself wants to deny freedom and rights. That's more than a stretch. If I told you I made a contribution to Focus on the Family, would you stop visiting PointBuzz? Would you then make the assumption that PointBuzz feels that certain groups of people don't deserve the same rights and freedoms that everyone else has? I would hope not, yet that's what is happening here.
I didn't call you an elitist. The "nose in the air" comment wasn't related to not eating there or supporting the business. It was directed at the tone of this thread where those who think differently are looked down at as not having a valid opinion.
If someone posted that they weren't going to eat at XYZ Cafe because they donated to the Human Rights Campaign, there are people here who wouldn't be able to type "i-n-t-o-l-e-r-a-n-t" fast enough! Why? Is it because "tolerance" really means, "think like me?"
I don't support Cathy or patronize his business because of his beliefs. Going into Chic-fil-A does not constitute anything other than me wanting a chicken sandwich. While I appreciate his approach to running his business, this world is too big and too connected for me to avoid people because I disagree with them, or to give business to people who think like me. Jeff and I have different opinions about a few issues, but we still have a partnership with this site, work well together, and get along quite nicely.
Now, I wouldn't buy a candy bar from a Nazi group going door-to-door, but I think boycotting a restaurant because of a donation to Focus on the Family is just as silly as the Baptist boycott of Disney.

Seriously, food is food. Business is business. Their decisions are based on business, ours are on food. Just cause we all love Cedar Point how it is and are obsessed with the fact doesn't mean people visiting from 1000 or more miles away want to eat theme park food. They most likely want some sort or realism that is tied to somewhere outside the park, perhaps somewhere close to home. I think this is a GREAT move on CP's part and we should just accept it and forget about our own ridiculous beliefs cause like it or not chick-fil-a and panda express are staying.
All this talk of delicious, deep fried chicken should really be embargoed until after 12:00PM EDT.

Great. Now Catholicism is going Islam on me.
That actually looks kinda cool though, but I wonder if someone will bite off the ears on the first night.
