Hmmm. Sounds suspiciously like soccer. You're not secretly a Communist . . . or worse, a European?

I have one last point...
In 2005, many called a group of Christians "intolerant" because they chose to boycott Ford Motor Co, for donating to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance.
Now, in 2007, People here are saying that they will boycott Chick-Fil-A at because they donate to Focus on the Family...
Is either of these truly worse than the other? Some may feel that one is because of their upbringing, or because of their personal convictions, but in reality, these are one in the same.
Thank God (or should I say thankfully) we live in a country where we have freedom to choose where to spend our money. We also live in a country where we are free to believe whatever we wish. Why is that not enough for some people?

Oh trust me, there isn't a communist bone in my body.
And I've never been to Europe.
Soccer is just much more fun to watch.
Football is more like government. For every 5 seconds spent working, there are 30 spent standing around.

LOL! Never thought of it that way, but you do have a point. Plus, they work two hours a week. Oh wait, that's my job.

You guys are funny. If you dont care for Chick Fil A then DONT EAT there!! It's CF's decision, so live with it.
I'm not supporting anything, but I probably will eat at Chick fil A.......NOT because Im christian (which I am) and support them but because I'm hungry and happen to enjoy chicken. If the food is bad, I wont eat there, if it's good and the prices are fair, I'm going to come back.

Does that make me Hamburg then, if he's Turkey? ;)
I've never really thought there was anything all that impressive about the sandwiches, but the waffle fries are absolutely delicious!

Ok, the GAME WAS ON SATURDAY.Saturday != Sunday.
And looking at the past years on wikipedia, the games have NEVER been on a Sunday.
So there goes that left field theory.
Yeah, you are right. Since the game is normally played on New Year's eve, and in 2006 it fell on a Sunday... etc. etc.
Oh well, do you feel better now to put a left field thinker in his place?
Beer and golf Thursday thru Monday, Cedar Point & beer, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Can you see One-Eyed-Willie from the top of Magnum?
Im just the opposite of you Blue Streak... I love the sandwiches but Im not a big fan of the waffle fries...
I love their fresh-squeezed lemonade though!

Who knew a chicken sandwich joint would stir up so much controversy??
Does anyone have dirt on Panda Express we should all know about as well?? :)
Maybe I'll have to get the lemonade this year, because I've never actually had it before. I love lemonade, and Vault and lemonade can really get you through the night...but that's a story that isn't necessary (high school music trip to Chicago, long story, trust me). :)
Maybe what ruined it for me was when Chick-fil-a catered the Snider Jazz Festival a few years ago. The sandwiches were rather soggy and definitely not fresh. I ate two of them, but that definitely didn't mean I thought they were up to snuff with what I expected.
I'm not Russian it if you're not, Ensign. ;) *** Edited 3/30/2007 7:01:00 PM UTC by BlueStreak64***

I've got no problem if you choose to not patronize a business, whatever the reason may be. I don't like smoking, but I still buy gas at stations that sell cigarettes. It's hard to avoid people who don't think like you.
I didn't say I look down on people who don't think like I do. I'm all about people having their own opinions, beliefs and ethics. I also think people should do whatever they feel is appropriate to support and/or defend those beliefs. That's what makes the world go 'round. Its just not human nature to be identical to everyone else. People are different - they look different, act different, think different, etc...
It is interesting you make that point though. Dobson is the one trying to suppress the "different" because he feels there is something wrong with them. Its not like Dobson tries to hide his beliefs on the subject either - its what he's all about. If Chick-Fil-A is such a strong supporter of his group, I don't think its a stretch at all to say the company feels the same way as Dobson. You can also find many references to Truett Cathy's beliefs on homosexuality on the internet. I've yet to see anything written directly by him, but there are many references to interviews he's given and how he feels about the subject.
There's a big difference between avoiding people who don't think like I do and avoiding people who make it known they morally object to who you are. Dobson's organization goes to great lengths to deny my freedoms. That's totally different than buying gas at a place that sells cigarettes. If you can't see the difference, I'm sorry. But, I can't come up with a better way to describe it.
Like you said, people have to draw their personal line somewhere. In a world like today where almost everything is connected, you have to pick and choose who and what to support or not to support. Chick-Fil-A shares the same beliefs and actively supports Focus on Family. (They do more than just give donations to the company - they distribute their propaganda in the kids meals.) So, I choose to not give my hard earned money to Chick-Fil-A. Sure, Cedar Fair helps give profit to Chick-Fil-A by having them in their theme parks. I'm sure a tiny bit of my money given to Cedar Point eventually will find a way back to the Chick-Fil-A organization. But, it is such a minuscule amount, there's nothing I can really do about that. As far as I know, Cedar Point doesn't have any bias towards homosexuals. So, I will continue to support them. If they start denying rights to their gay employees or start actively supporting organizations like Focus on Family, then yes, I would stop frequenting Cedar Fair parks.
Just because I don't feel like I should have to give money to Chick-Fil-A, if you want to, more power to you. I'm not saying everyone in the world should stop eating at Chick-Fil-A. People do what they feel is important. Along the same lines, I don't see why it bothers you so much that I don't want to support them. *** Edited 3/30/2007 7:02:14 PM UTC by halltd***
The only thing that bothered me was the tone earlier in the thread and the fact that tolerance seems to be a one-way street. When the "freedom hating" tone is replaced by this, I can tolerate the opinion, even though I disagree that the group is trying to deny your freedom.
"As far as I know, Cedar Point doesn't have any bias towards homosexuals. "
Speaking of which... I wonder how Chick-fil-a will feel when they find out about Cedar Point's employee demographics.

There's one really good argument to use against those who would use Christianity to combat drinking.
Jesus turned WATER into WINE so that people who were already drunk could continue to drink. He has NO problem with drinking.

this world is too big and too connected for me to avoid people because I disagree with them, or to give business to people who think like me. Jeff and I have different opinions about a few issues, but we still have a partnership with this site, work well together, and get along quite nicely.
This is the exact reason I still enjoy this site & the people on it, in spite of the fact many of you don't not share my faith in Christ. I just enjoy a shared love for CP & I don't force my faith on you. If a thread has a theme going that goes against my beliefs, I leave that thread w/o contributing. I am sick though of Christians always getting the "intolerant" label. It does not mean I hate someone to not believe what they believe. I love my gay brother-in-law, & in spite of him knowing we d/n agree with his beliefs, we have a close relationship. How? We agree to disagree. Yes, it hurts both "sides" deep down, but each "side" understands we all have a right to our individual beliefs. I do understand if you chose not to support Christian companies that conflict with your beliefs.
Aa far as expecting a pharmacist to throw his/her strongly held beliefs aside to follow what someone else wants....I don't even know what to say to such a self serving expectation. As an oncology nurse, I have many times had to give Methotrexate to women with ectopic pregnancies. (Only chemo certified nurses handle this drug) You better believe I checked out the scans & reports to make SURE this was not a viable pregnancy. I am NOT going to throw my beliefs out the window in order to follow what someone else wants. I might as well say I don't really believe what I say I believe if I would be willing to do that.

I just can't believe they're going to have pandas staffing that Chinese restaurant. For crying out loud, they're an endangered species. And they're very shy . . . do you think they're going to like having people gawking at them, dishing out plates of mu gu gai pan and pouring soft drinks? Come on, people! Not to mention the fact they don't have opposable thumbs. Like, how are they even supposed to pour the soft drinks? And since they're not even human, Cedar Fair probably won't even pay them in dollars. Just crates of bamboo leaves. And they'll have to wear those stupid badges. Except that instead of saying, "Poland" or "Czech Republic", it'll say, "Panda"! Like we won't know he's a panda by his black-ringed eyes and furry, fore-shortened limbs.
It just makes me mad.
