Panda express and Chick-Fil-A?

Is it me or is the new 3 Point Challenge replacing the eating area tables next to Stockade Refreshments? The one with the CP&LE painting on the fence. If so I'm pissed. I love getting an elephant ear and eating it at those tables and throwing some to the dozens of birds.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Yeah John, that's what I was getting at. If I had known who LL was I'd have probably understood it a little better too. This whole trying to be nice when telling someone to get a clue is like reading cryptic scripture.

I just didn't want to point someone out specifically and I thought you, of all people, would get it. I guess I gave you too much credit. ;)

Yep. Now I remember! My grandpa DID mention once how his grandfather crossed the Ol' Mississip on horseback and used to bunk up for the night in the wild west. At night they used to settle around the campfire and roast eggrolls...and then they'd all play a round of "HORSE" on the basketball courts the Native Americans had set up in the desert!

Welcome back CP'ers, to the less-than-Frontier Frontier town....new for 2007.

Loops - your arrows pointed at me....that's why I was thinking you were talking to me about "reading before I post".

Check your PM's.

Oh, c'mon DJ you don't remember that little friend on here who's initials were LL?

I suppose they did. I must have missed Regular Guys post that started the second page. I guess it really does pay to read, huh?

I had a friend once named Leslie. No relation to LL though. :)

I'm surprised to see other people sticking up for "theme". I guess that's the problem you run into when you insert chains into your park. You lose some of the creative control over the restaurant. Disney servers different kinds of food all over the park. But, each place is themed to the area of the park its in. I'd rather see a "Pecos Bill Cafe" that serves Chinese food than see a big purple and red panda sign on Frontier Trail. But, its obvious I'm in the minority when it comes to being true to a theme and standing up for what you believe in.

...sigh...

People complained on here for so long how boring the Frontier Trail and Frontier Town were... and how they wanted something more modern, and more thrill rides, while still keeping the western feel of the area.

Now, a few years, a screamin' swing with an americana theme, a new coaster with a heavy western theme, 2 new eateries, 3 point challenge, and plenty of landscaping work later... we are still complaining... Sure some of the things don't have a Western theme, but is it really that much of a change... Let's reminisce to the good ol' days...

I remember the day's of the cowboys coming home off the range after a mean game of "Guess Your Weight", with a cold ICEE (R) in hand. After that, they'd settle down for a relaxing ride with the family in a plastic boat shaped like a giant swan. And what better way to end a hootin, hollerin' day in the wild west then settling down at the Frontier Inn for that delicious pioneer American treat... Pizza?

Again, I completely agree with you that items/attractions back there have not always perfectly fit in with the western theme. But does that mean the problem needs to be perpetuated?

I see the chance of adding new things as a chance to find new things that DO fit the theme.

Open up a western-themed chain.

Take the three point challenge and "westernize" it...or heres a thought, come up with an equally fun western-themed game!

But then again, these are the same poweres-that-be that still have the closed down Pirate-Ride left sitting out after over a decade. My expectations are low, I'm just waiting to be surprised.

^ But that takes time, forethought and money.

Like I said... I can also see both points. I guess this is the question left in my mind... Which would anger you more?

A huge coaster in the middle of Frontier Town with no theming whatsoever?

--or--

A 2 fast food chains and a 3 point game that happens to not have western theming?

For all we know, these new restaurants and the 3-Point Challenge may have a western theme to them, but even if they aren't I think CP did a heck of a job theming Maverick to fit the feel of Frontier Town... oh wait, I forgot, a canyon from the concept art is missing...

Never mind, CP failed again... <--- Sarcasm.

Chain restaurants in the park...don't like it, never have, never will. Have them outside of the park, like Famous Dave's and TGI Fridays, not on the midways. I still don't like seeing Johnny Rockets there.

And to have a restaurant closed on Sundays...on a weekend, a day when a lot of people would head to the park...what sense does that make? Close it on a weekday instead of a weekend if it MUST be closed one day a week.

Kevin - the Pirate Ride building is used for storage. That's why they haven't torn it down.

With all due respect, Tim - Shut up about chains.

I'm glad you're not working for P&D at CP. I think there's only so many ways one can eat fried twinkies before the vomit comes.

CP doesn't even have fried Twinkies do they? That'd definitely be more Ohio than Chinese though. LOL!!! Might as well through in some fried Oreos too.

I'll shut up about chains when you stop being a d1ck. :)

I did not know that the PR building was storage, but still, lets get rid of the cannons and the oddly misplaced "pirate mural" just sitting there. Sure, for those of us that remember the PR its neat to walk past and think back to good times long past, but to a new visitor it just doesnt make any sense. Like DT's horrid queue, and Halloweekends stuff left out all season long.

Let me use this analogy;

CP is like a great movie that has no editor. Its wonderful and amazing to experience but that just makes all the little touches that get ignored stick out even more.

Like Josh M said above, which would I rather have?

Well quite frankly, I would hope that CP would do both, not one or the other.

Josh M.'s avatar

Yes, Kevin... I would like both too. But, if budget is an issue, Id much rather see them put theming towards a major attraction as opposed to eateries and games.

Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004

Hey, weren't the railroads of the Old West built primarily by Asian laborers. The Mine Ride and Maverick are sort of like runaway trains. So maybe Panda Express is just CPs way of honoring their contribution to the history of the American West. Makes about as much sense as people arguing about the "loss of historical authenticity" of Frontiertown. CP is very aware of what they're doing, let's just give them a chance to do it first before we bash them!
