Paint Job

I was at the park on 7/10 and was in line for Millennium Force. Does anyone else think it needs a paint job or is it just me?

It could, but it's not exactly necessary. Clearly they have better intentions with their money.

2006 - Season Pass Holder
2006 - Blue Streak TL (processed out opening weekend)
2005 - Millennium Force/Kiddy Kingdom TL/maXair (Halloweekend Fridays)
2004 - Iron Dragon

I remember when they painted Raptor over some time ago, I looked awesome. Maybe next year they'll paint the MFforce.

Like I said in another thread, I think the bigger the coaster, the longer you'll be waiting before you see it getting painted.

Millenium Force is beginning to fade just enough for it to start looking bad. I would say that they would split it into a 2 year repainting, like magnum.

Also, has anyone noticed how badly the yellow supports for dragsters tower have faded already? I was susprised to see that while walking by.

TTD is faded more than anything, the yellow on the tower is bad i think

TTD needs a paint job and a semi color change, just maybe more of a true, deeper yellow, and i think the lights should be brighter. or they could paint the tower white and have changing color lights that shine through the whole tower at night, kinda like power tower, but better. i think that would be awesome.

From a distance they look fine, it's when you get up close that it's noticably bad.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

i was thinking the same thing when i was in line yesterday. there was some rusty coloring and the blue was definatly faded. it doesn't effect the ride and thats good enough for me.

There are things higher on the priority list then to paint Millennium Force. I think guest would rather have employees paid more resulting in a better and friendlier experience, than receive a fresh coat of paint on their favorite coaster. Most guest, don't care, unless it's horribly faded or discolored.

Better pay does not automatically equal better service, thats a business fact. Better working environments with better management that is respected by its employees get better service.

Last year I noticed how Mille was getting a little rusty looking, and I noticed dragster last year, how much the tower faded...its very noticable in photos from 2003. Cedar Point is a relatively clean park, but its nothing compared to Kennywood or DelGrosso's park. They are known for cleanliness unlike CP. They do however spend their money on either the biggest rides or buying out half-butt parks like GL or Paramount parks.

It's only been 3 years since TTD was built. It will be a long time before it is painted.

101 on Magnum and counting...

Since 1989, how many times did they paint Magnum before 04/05?

Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.

At Coastermania, it was mentioned that MF is indeed under the "to be painted soon" category.

I don't know what it is about coasters at Cedar Point, but they always get ugly after a couple of years. Can't blame it on different manufacturers, either, it seems they all go bad in about the same time span - about 6 years (maybe I'm wrong, thanks to the exception of the Arrow rides). TTD seemed to have the shortest glory, though I suspect its constant time in the sun has some effect on it, being that the sun pretty much hits it from everywhere in the sky all day long.

You have to consider that Cedar Point is on an penninsula, and that there are no natural hills, valleys, or extremely large trees to give-off shade. Thus, the taller coasters are exposed to coaster prehaps more then at other parks. Also, you have to consider the seaguls crapping all over, exspecialy Raptor. And also, the lake blows dust and sand onto the coaster, I'd assume.

Not to mention the harsh environment during the winter.

Mantis was needed of a paint job and look what the difference there was. It was completely faded. The red was pink, the purple on the supports was almost like a powder color, and the yellow was almost white. I don't think Mantis has gotten a paint job since it opened until 2 years ago. I can really tell on that overlook pic that CP posted a while ago and TTD's track is fading too. *** Edited 7/14/2006 1:50:35 PM UTC by ltparkmaster***

I am not buying into the argument for the taller coasters fading quicker...you can notice it plenty at ground level with shade. Sandusky has roughly the same amount of annual precipitation as my hometown which presumably would leave the same amount of sun light, we have roughly the same weather patterns, though our winters may be a bit harsher yet because of the lake effect snows AND higher elevation...

Even still, cedar point rides tend to lose pigment faster than the faces of those riding them. Keep in mind 2 manufacturers are losing the paint quality here.... B&M and Intamin... Both manufacturers have the same problems at other parks.... Hershey's great bear and Storm Runner coasters both are having these problems. Goto SFGA and you will see an entire slew of B&M coasters that have faded and rusted.

My vote says its the manufacturers.
