One riders quest to ride !!

Hi,

I am new to the forums and if this type of topic is not allowed then mods please close...

My name is Josh and I live in PA. I weigh about 320 pounds and am hoping to lose some before I go to the Point on May 26th. This is kinda like a online blog and sort of a journal as I log my progress to the Point on the 26th. I have found that exersize and goal setting is sucssefull if you have support and friends that help you along the way and keep you motivated I will update this every so often to let you know of my progress and let you know when I come back if I was able to ride or not !!

My rules as of today April 1st :

1.) No more fast food or going out to eat if I have to go due to circumstances all that I will order will be a side and a diet drink or water.

2.) No more cookies regular pop or snack food till after my trip to the point on the 26th..

3.) Exersise at least 3 times a week for 20 min each doing a regiment of activties ranging from bike riding to jogging to sit-ups trying to lose the gut that I have acquired.

P.S. I know that some of you around this board are like little kids and like to poke fun and laugh at us big people but I am trying to do something about it here and now and would appreciate all negative comments to remain to a minimum ! Thank you all and hopefully I will see some of you at the Point on the 26th !!

P.S. Let me know if you are going to the point on May 26th and perhaps we can meet up I have no problem giving my # out as so long as you pm me and tell me that you are coming.

Thanks again and see you around the Point !!!!

Good for you. I think this thread is a good idea, and I sincerely hope that you are able to ride. Good Luck!

Eleazr,

My name is Chris and I am in a similar yet much smaller position as you are. I weigh 225 pounds as of now and also wish to ride Millennium Force, as of last June I could not close the seatbelt, (I blame my huge thighs). I have also taken similar steps to you and know how hard it really is to lose weight.

A few tips. Don't get discouraged (like I did) when you eat very little, drink nothing but water and the occasional milk for a month, and exercise and not find the pounds melting away. It takes time and patience to lose weight successfully.

When you feel discouraged, I reccommend one of many Millennium Force videos that are on the web. When you watch these videos and see these people having the time of there life on this coaster, think to yourself- "That could, no, that's gonna be me next year". If you're like me, you'll be encouraged to keep going, with your eye on the prize all the way through.

Good luck, Eleazr.

The thing is is that I think i can ride even at my current weight because of what I like to call a double waist... I can fit the belt under my gut and hopefully be able to squeeze in but still I need to lose the weight and I hope that I can... Again more updates as i go....

I've mentioned this before...I used to weigh in at 280 lbs. I am currently at 178 lbs. How did I lose over 100 lbs? Let me share that with you:

1) Drink LOTS of water! 4 quarts a day is normal for me. The Dr. told me the only way fat leaves your body is through urine. Pee more, lose weight.

2) Limit your fat grams intake. While losing, I tried to keep mine under 50 grams per day. I still ate fast food (mainly Arby's) and still drank beer (there are some things I would never give up!) I found the Healthy Choice brand name frozen dinners to be quite tasty and had those for lunch alot.

3) Allow yourself "treats" when you have been good for a week. 1 candy bar a week won't hurt you, 7 a week may. Same thing goes for the fatty foods. Moderation is the key to many things in life, including consumption.

4) Don't weigh yourself every day. Once a week will show you better results.

That's it. That's what has worked for me. I didn't exercise much (other than walking a little) and still don't. Good luck to you in your quest to ride MF!

I rode once in 2004.. I also rode it when it was first installed into the park with no trouble. I hope the rumors are true and that the size of the belts have been increased or what not. The reason that this one is so big in my mind is because if I can ride this I will have no trouble with TTD which I have still not ridden....

I weigh 220 and carry most of it in my upper body. My hips and butt are small and since the seatbelt fits low I can ride. My partner is about 240 and has no butt so he fits too. A female friend of mine weighs less but carries her extra weight low, and she got turned away.

I usually start my Millenium Force diet on April 1st, since I'll be at C.P. for a week starting May 7th it gives me a month to be good and shed those extra pounds. Once I get near french fries and frozen custard all bets are off.

Good luck.

Until you lose more weight, things like situps are not going to help much. Cardio is key; activities like running, jogging or biking will help you the most. Good luck! :)

Ya i am trying to find out what exersice takes the most off of the belly area... I have a pot belly inhertied from my dad and need to get rid of some of it in 2 months... LOL !!!

What DBCP said is right, cardio is the best exercise for weight loss. However, you might want to consider some moderate weight training if you have access to weight equipment. While weight lifting doesn't burn much fat on its own, the increased muscle mass will require more calories and will raise your metabolic rate. That way, you will be burning more calories all day. Good luck!

Let the rude comments begin... I have already stated that I am on a modified diet...

Just a quick update for all the serious posters out there, I went bike riding today because the weather was really good outside and went for 5 miles. This is a small amount compared to last summer that I was able to ride but slowly and surely is the way to do this... More updates to come..

More power to you Eleazar. On the New Years Day before they announced the seat belt change I weighed 275 pounds. That was the point when I hit rock bottom and realized I really needed to lose weight. I was up to a 44 inch waist and had a hard time climbing up a couple flights of stairs.

By the time I had heard about the seat belt change I had lost about 50 pounds. I fit into MF on opening day. It was pure coincedence that I had gone on the diet that year, but I know how you feel. I continued on my diet that year and eventualy lost 100 pounds in 14 months. I didn't think I'd ever wear a size 32 pants again.

I agree with pretty much everything Mr Scott said. I on the otherhand excercise. Cardio isn't for eveyone though. I swim at my local rec center for 30 minutes 3 times a week. Plus I'm on construction sites all the time so I get quite a bit of walking through my job.

Breakfast is very important. Even if it is just a bowl of cereal or a piece of fruit. It gets the metabolism running in the morning and gets those calories burning early. And don't deprive yourself. Not eating can be as bad as eating too much. When you starve yourself, your body reacts by storing fat.

Great things can happen. Just stick to your plan.

Eleazar721, good luck to you and I hope you are able to succeed. I will be a ride host on Millennium Force this summer and they only thing I can really say is try the test seat before getting in line. I always felt absolutely terrible for the people who stood hours in line just to find out that they couldn't ride.

Just know that if you fit in the test seat you shouldn't have any problems fitting on the train.

Again, good luck!

Good Luck Elezar! I belive that the goal of being able to ride the Millennium is a great one, but remember that if you continue lose the weight you will be healthier. I commend you and at least I am one that is expecting a progress report from you. Good Luck once again!

If It wasn't for fun, Life would be all work. Now who wants that????

Another update...
Another thing that I am doing seeing as I work at Wal-Mart as a people greeter... Long Story :). I am going to park as far away from the store as possiable so that way I have a nice long walk to get to and from my car therfore increasing my daily walking.. Also around 7am-9am and from 9pm-10pm there is hardly any custmoers that come into the store and so I am going to speed walk around the front entrance keeping myself awake and alert also burning calories... I will of course have to stop when there are customers but anything at this point will help due to the fact that I only have two month remaining till my first attempt to ride milli.... Talk to you all again soon... and thanks for the encourgment it helps a ton knowing that there are people out there hoping that i achieve my goal...

P.S. I would love to meet some of you on the day that I attempt this and that date will be May 26th 2006... If any of your are able to make it I encourage you to pm me with contact info and I will get in contact with you about what time and where to meet at at the point....

Hope you are all having fun and see you at americas roller-coast !!

As said above, drink LOTS of water, it increases metabolism. I know you'll be able to ride Millenium Force AND TTD on May 26. Just keep to your routine!
