ONE BIg OVAL??

OK some of us here are disapointed with #16, myself not being one of them. My only question is what should they build next? Early last summer I went to six flags in cleveland, and road x-flight, I would love to see something like that in CP. any thoughts?
4-D all the way, but a flyer would be decent as long as there is a fast loading time or there are two trains running all the time.

Also, the launches might get a little repetitive but a S&S thrust air like Hypersonic XLC would be sweet. I love that ride. They said they could make one 500 feet high. That would give CP three different launch systems, the second air compression coaster in the U.S., and three coasters over 300 feet. 500 feet might be a little crazy but anything can happen and CP will probably be the first one to tackle it, or I hope...

It feels like 16 is taking a step backwards to Superman rather than expand upon the trends that Hypersonic and Dodonopa have started these past few years.

Beast, I used the term trend, because there are only 3 (including Australia) coasters in the world over 400 feet, and they are all just up and down.

The Tower of Terror in Australia is only 377'. It is basically the same as S:TE with the same design speed of 100 mph. Both have a max drop of about 328', S:TE just has more unused track. In my opinion, #16 is breaking the trend by actually going 400+ feet. Also, we don't have to worry about them toning down the ride in the future. It is estimated that S:TE only goes about 90mph now and probably does not even drop as much as MF. Even if #16 only beats S:TE's technical height by a few feet and has a similar footprint, it will be a very different ride. The tophat/twist will give you changing forces (a chance for you to experience the speed as opposed to just a 0-G freefall) and it will be the only ride of its magnitude. I know we all would have liked more elements, but I don't think you can call this a step backwards to S:TE. I think this is a big step forward and the similarities to S:TE are just an illusion.

well put front seat rider

If you build it, they will come!

Front seat - I uderstand and agree - in some respects # 16 is a step forward (no question).

However, just because I got the ride height incorrect on one ride, does not negate the concept - there is a distinct trend (probably due to cost, which is understandable), that as rides approach 400 feet - they get shorter.

Would you want to pay for this ride? Odds are it is the largest investment the park has ever made. MF cost 25 million dollars and with all this crazy launching equipment and extreme height this thing is going to cost an arm and a leg! (In the end if you visit the park you actually are paying for some of the ride though! If you buy a season pass you may have helped buy a bolt or a wheel for this ride!)
Ok in a way...im terrified...but in a good way...can my fat butt really go 400+ in the air??? And does anyone have any idea when CP might make an official announcement?????

Oh...any guesses to what the cars might actually look like???

I agree with Front Seat and Coaster Freak.

This ride will blow away SE ( I've been on it, which is more than 95 % of the members on this site). It doesn't even come close to the height it should go, and that was back in 1998 when I rode it. Hello, #16 goes face down!!!!

I'm a coaster nut, who will take a roller coaster park over any tropical beach any day (I've got the Atlantic ocean 10 miles from my house). I'm the kind of Cedar Point guest who lives 565 miles away, drives 10 hours, stays at the Breakers Tower Suites and pays through the nose ($500/person) to go to the point and pay for more of #16 than a season pass / complainer holder would, as Coaster Freak stated. And why do I do it, because there's NO place like CP

As far as calling CP season pass holder complainers, it just appears to me that the people doing all the complaining about the lack of elements, only oval track etc... are season pass holders who seem know everthing about Sandusky and CP.

In no way would I infer that they complain about CP.

I think we'd all agree that many will complain "it's only one major hill" no matter what CP built (I've actually heard some moron say that about Millennium Force). While it would be nice to be able to experience some of that 100+ speed at the bottom, I think that most people will be plenty thrilled with this sucker.

And if they're not, great! ...a shorter line for me.

Coaster Freak: I want my name engraved on my bolt!

wooohooo I might have bought a bolt or wheel for the ride I cant wait to use my pass this year !!!!!

Unfortunatly, I think that is a trend we are going to have to live with. MF was 25 million, and SD2K, with just a longer track and more hills was 50 million. S:TE was 20 million compaired to the expensive B&M's and hypers that are all less. In short, big rides cost tons and differences that may seem relatively small like MF to SD2K can have a big effect on the price tag. (I don't know if the location in Japan had anything to do with the price.) Unless some parks put regular elements before a 400 foot grand finally, more elements will just be too expensive on 400 foot monsters. Parks cannot drop 75-100 million per attraction to make a 400 footer look like a hyper.

Well, FCR *maybe* just maybe parks should not be building "400 foot monsters" to begin with. I personally do not understand why Cedar Point felt *compelled* to go after this "milestone". They could have been quite successful adding an number of other attractions that would not have such cost restrictions on the layout. But hey, they've got their *buzzword* and I hope they are pleased with it.

CP probably wanted to keep up with the compition, so thats why it built #16. When people can only afford to go to one place for vacation this year, CP would want something that would cause people to at least pay to see it.....that way they are choosing CP over the other parks.

Just a thought!

I know that everyone has already talked about this somewhat, but I was curious. If you look at the secomd webcam, from the ground, the track does not line up on the left side. I know that they would leave some track open to get the cranes out, but what is the deal with this. Please do not jump at me, I am asking a serious question.
That is where it changes from square track to flat track.
