How many flyers have you been on? They suck. Ride once to say you did, move on to something more fun.
I've only been on one; X-Flight at Geauga Lake. I thought it was a pretty fun ride. Better than a stand-up IMO. Not even close to the X 4D at MM which I've also been on but still a fun ride and I wouldn't mind seeing the tallest and fastest flier at CP.
Count me in with the people who are kind of disappointed to see another Intamin coaster. As long as it doesn't get you wet and I can fit on the darn thing, I'll still enjoy it just as much as everyone else will.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
How can you be kind of disappointed with it being Intamin when you don't even know what it's exactly going to be other then an Intamin?
I don't see any reason to be disappointed...my favorite park is getting a new coaster for 2007! I'll ride it no matter what it is :-P
The record of Intamins reliability is one reason to be disappointed. I'm glad they are adding something, I just hope that this one doesn't follow in the footsteps of the last two.

I'm actually happy to hear all this complaining about a new Intamin ride. Guess that makes a shorter line for me on opening day '07! Keep complaining! This is putting me in a good mood knowing you all hate this coaster and it hasnt even been built yet!

I totally understand that Jugga, I suppose that's the only reason to be disappointed. Maybe that's why it's being built so soon, to work out the kinks early.

Jeff's already correct in his opinion...look at how many enthusiasts are already complaining that it is "another Intamin" and all we've seen are a half dozen pieces of track and some footers
Good Point. I had only thought about it meaning about people complaining about the type of ride it was... I hadn't considered those that might complain about the manufacturer.

I used to work at the park and I know what coming for 2007! It worth telling the nice folks in pointbuzz land, here is a clue "it will shock you "
In a good way, or a bad one? :)

Intamin Aquatrax anyone ???:( :( :(
I really hope not.

101 on Magnum and counting...
I think the Intamin reliability "issue" has been blown way out of proportion. Every major coaster has downtime.
Lets look at some of the issues other coasters have had that are not intamin.
Magnum had to have its trains up-stops retrofitted and had the third hill re-profiled.
Meanstreak....how many times has the second hill been re-profiled now? On top of other areas of the ride. And the added trim brakes.
Mantis, yes, built by the allmighty B&M had to add trims to the first drop to alleviate excessive g-forces.
Raptor was closed on a regular basis the first year or so it was open. I went to the point around 30 times that year and it seemed like everytime i was in line the train would stop on the lift and loud buzzing sounds came from the mcbr.
For all of you wanting a 4D, remember that particular company has built two (at least) major coasters that had to be removed after only a few short seasons because they were so bad! (The Bat at PKI and Drachen Fire at BGW)
Steel Dragon 2000 built by Morgan has been shut down since 2003 after only less than three years of opperation after this happened. http://www.coasterbuzz.com/2003-237-707207.htm
So basicly as far as coasters standing over 300 ft tall, Intamin is the only company that has any reliability!
I dont care what they build. Any major machinery will have breakdowns. When you pull a seven ton train from 0-120mph in a few seconds repetitively, somethings gonna break sooner or later.

Well, we all know about the top three Intamin coasters at CP that have downtime. But, don't forget about Disaster Transport. That's one of the other Intamins. I don't think Jr. Gemini has that much downtime though, does it? CP should install a plaque on that one. Intamin's first coaster ever built and the most reliable one at CP. :)
Can anyone make any factual generalizations as to when Intamin uses box/skeleton track versus triangular track?

Seems that the giga and hyper coasters have all 3 styles of track.

I mean in terms speeds, force, and what not being relevant to what type they use and how it's determined.

It depends on the forces exerted on the area. They could just use quad-rail tracks, but it saves their buyer money to get rid of steel when not needed. Whereas, B&Ms tracks are all the same on a ride.
Vekoma does this too, they have single spined and double spined coasters.

Do you want an in-depth report? I could draw up some track sections and do a finite element analysis for ya to let you know what types of track structure can withstand what kinds of forces. I will need the diameter and wall thickness of the rails, the weight of the train, and the distance between wheels.

Outside the obvious evidence, such as it being an Intamin and the location, Jeff has made comments that lead me to believe it's an Aquatrax ride of some sort. First, his comment from a Podcast a while back, stating he believed it was (paraphrasing) "one of the best decisions the park has made in a while." Secondly, his comment that enthusiasts might be disappointed with it. This last comment might not seem valid, that is, until you read any one of the threads in this place concerning the '07 project and realize how desperate some people are for a record-breaking thrill ride, as illogical as it might seem at this point.
I don't believe Jeff would agree with the park's decision if they were building a flyer or a 4-D or another gimmicky thrill ride to appeal to people like us. At first I thought they were building a simple B&M ride similar in size to Raptor (due to its popularity and reliability), but that's obviously out the window. My next logical thought is a family coaster, and as a figure of speech, putting "two and two together" could equal putting a coaster and a water experience together.
I don't think a simple looper is out of the question, but why would any of us be disappointed with an Intamin looper? Personally, I would be excited to see an Aquatrax, but it's obvious that many people on this board just can't accept Cedar Point catering to families, and will continue to ignore evidence supporting such until the very end.

No, that's okay... :) I'm just wondering if there is any major reason for using triangular versus box, other than the amount of force that's put on it.
