People can say what they want, but I'm gonna be honest and say that I hope its a full-fledged coaster. Not an aqua-trax or whatever else is being speculated. I pray that that "new direction" sign is referring to upside-down, as in a mega-looper. That would be really fun, and it would be a good addition to the park. I've been going to CP for 23 years, and RIDING for 17 years. I've followed the park and this site for a while now. I try not to get too wrapped up in rumors, but this is the fun part. I cant wait for the announcement.
And I love Intamin coasters. They are some of the smoothest, most pleasureable I've ever ridden, so I got excited when I saw that track on here this morning. I'll be at the park next saturday to try to find out whatever I can.
"When Life Hands You Lemons, Ask For Tequila and Salt!"
Ok, I spent a little time watching, and pausing, the funcoast video. And along with the things we allready know, like, it is triangular Intamin track, I also noticed that the large flanges on the bottom of the track sections are made to mount directly to the footer. I know, your saying, how did he come up with this? Well, I went to the MF construction gallery #1, and went through the pictures, and I found a nice pic of a piece of triangular track and compared it to the track in the video. If you look at the MF track the flange is completly different than the flange on the track in the video. The track in the video has the reinforced type of flange normally used to bolt directly to a footing. Could these be the curved pieces that will be used to bolt to the footings in the swan boat pond? I think that would be pretty dramatic having a coaster that low going by the bridge that goes over the water there. And would support some peoples theories that this may be a traditional, sit down, possable, mega looper. Of course this is all complete speculation on my part. :} Took another look, one of the track pieces has both types of flange. ??

You make a good point about the flanges. Though, I am thinking that you are realy bored if you are reviewing and studing the track pieces. ;-)
If what you say is true, it still supports what I think the coaster will be. And prove that it is not a ball coaster.
Edit: On the count of stupidity...Thanks for the warning Cedar Dan.

I am board, waiting for my girlfriend to get off work so we can go out, so I thought I would put in my 2 cents worth. :} Besides, at least I did a little homework before I just spouted off with some nonsence, not refering to you.

Havent seen it but it could be a generic comercial for all cedar fair parks using stock footage from random parks. Then they could just change the logos to fit the locality to save cash.
The "Raptor-looking" one is Silver Bullet at Knott's Berry Farm. (Caught the commercial an hour ago, struck me as a bit odd.)
P.S. I find it funny that neither of the two above posters could spell "bored" correctly. ;)
I'm going to make my guess now. I started a thread a while back about the new coaster possibly being a Powder Keg. So, I put everything together and this is what I have come up with.
Intamin Track + confined corner of the park = Launch coaster. Similar to this one..http://rcdb.com/ig2787.htm?picture=9
But have loops like this one.(Only a lot bigger)
and have twists like this coaster.
And if it is a dueling coaster I think the name would be Bronco Vs. Tornado. "BT" . But it's all a fun guessing game. We can all come back to these threads later next year and laugh.

the links above were screwed up. Here, hopefully this works.

Sorry, one more thing to add. I think the longer Cedar Point holds us in suspense, the bigger the ride must be. Although, Cedar Point probably has a concrete date that they have set, I think to keep people guessing for a smaller coaster would leave people bitter. . .or more bitter than they are. ;)
Just a thought.

I'm not flaming or anything, but I nominate this post for the "Worst Logic of the Month" post.

Once again, no hard feelings, but all the park has done at this point to hype the ride is start the ground work for the ride. Everything else has been speculation...a majority of it poor speculation, I might add.
Seriously people, stop posting ideas without thinking things through. You're making the rest of us look bad. ;)

I don't really see that happening, I could be wrong, but have you seen the circumfrance (sp?) of the anchor bolts on those footers in the pond...they seem quite large, which would seem to me like a nice size support will sit on those footers.

I don't think that they would put in a coaster like that because it's almost the same thing as TTD.

United States Coast Guard
Imagine your favorite tv show. You've been through it all. The ups, the downs, the crazy coincidences and then bang! They tell you what it's all about. Would you be happy? Does it make sense? How come it all ended in a church? - Joker
Final Coaster - basically you're saying we're getting another TTD with some loopty loops.
About the suspense issue with the announcement, let's look at the past:
Dragster: track arrived on August 21st. They were planning on announcing it on August 29th until they saw how much speculation it caused in the first week. Knowing they were going to get a crapload of free publicity, they pushed it back to January 9th, after putting a webcam pointed directly at it and after the tower was fully complete as well.
maXair: some markings showed up closing weekend and people started talking. Then they announced it on December 1st.
Skyhawk: seeing all the hype that maXair's markings showed closing weekend, they started spraypainting the ground in the middle of the season and started dropping clues in the blog around Septemberish. The ride was announced October 31st, the day after closing day.
Project 2007?? The long rumored WWL destruction finally came true in the fall when Tony and Tyler announced it in the blog. Then the train tracks were moved during the offseason, the entire area was cleared and footers started showing up. The massive area now has many footers of all shapes and sizes and more are to come. Intamin track has been found out by Breakers Express. But this we already know :).
So when are they going to announce it? As long as they're getting free publicity and it keeps a lot of hype going they're going to push it back to however long they need to. Millennium Force was announced in the middle of July, so they might take this route too, I have no clue. But if they go the way that they have been for the past few years, it's going to be after the season is over.
One more thing: For us cool people known as the enthusiasts, we know what's going on, meaning we know there's a construction zone and we know there's track, we're just waiting for an announcement. If they start laying track and actually putting the ride together during the season, I would hope that they announce it in the middle of the summer. Why? Well, the regular shmoes that visit the park will be interested. If they can given the facts in 2006 about what's coming next year, won't they be more inclined to come back the year after, rather that knowing that they're building a roller coaster but not knowing anything about it?
2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
Instead of making an announcement and letting the cat out of the bag alltogether, wouldn't it bring more people back by putting up signs around the construction area saying, "Bigger" or "Better than EVER." or something along the lines of that? Of course that wouldn't do much for us, but it might make the GP excited to come back as well.
Maybe they could even advertise in the park map itself.
From a Marketing perspective.... Whether it's an AquaTrax, a 500' Mega-Looper, or whatever else people are speculating, CP is doing an amazing job right now. One of the most difficult things to do in Marketing is to push a product that isn't necessarily the most popular (toothpaste advertising for example). You have to take the product, regardless of what it is, and make the consumer excited about it.... We have really seen CP do very little of this in the past, normally only emphasizing their "record breakers."
On the other side... If you are promoting a very popular product (Halo 3, Nintendo Wii), it is beneficial to "tease" your audience, and lure them in with excitement, only reveal small parts of the puzzle, and then blow them away when you reveal the details of the product. CP has never really done this before an announcement of a major ride, except for throwing up a sign and a fence here or there (Building for the Future).
So what do I think it's going to be?... I'm not fully sure, but from a Business perspective I think CP is doing one of their most brilliant long term Marketing/Advertising plans to date. From the Blog, to the construction site, to the signs, and other things that I have heard that are planned for this season, I take my hat off to the Marketing and Advertising Departments at the park. Enthusiasts will never completely be happy, but I guarantee with the excitement leading up to this announcement, the general public will be more engrossed in this ride than any other that CP has ever built...
This concludes class for today... don't forget to do your homework....
Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004
I couldn't agree more...
2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor

I really have no idea what this ride could be, but now im thinking its very possible that this construction zone is not where the BIG attraction will be. Im thinkin an Aquatrax in this area but, i believe they are planning on moving construction to another area of the park to build the second BIG attraction which wil blow us away. I think this because "the path taken is not always the best" may be talking about looking for a new construction area that will pop up either around the middle or end of the season. This could explain the "put 2 and 2 together" as well since 2 rides in 2 different places. Im not sure about this but it seems very possible to me. Also, those claiming they wouldnt be happy if a 500 footer came are liars. How awesome would it be to have a 500 ft MF? But I also dont think a 500 ft rollercoaster is in store.
"Thats when friends were nice, to think of them just makes you feel nice"
First I must say, well said Josh M. I do think Cedar Point is doing a great job with it's advertising hinting at the new attraction.
And I have to say to Fat Man Tarkey. I started thinking about this a little while back, but I quickly lost faith in it. Maybe you're right though. I think most of us would love this plan. Even though it would most likely be Intamin ;). I love Intamin. I dont care what people say about them. Without Intamin AG we would be getting stepped on by six flags left and right. Now we have great world class steel coasters.
"Before you know it, that Maverick's got the drop on ya."
I think people are trying to look too far into the hints given. You have to remember that T&T are mainly there for the general public, not for us enthusiasts. I think the "path taken isn't always the best" is just confirming what we had already suspected, that the name would be maverick. A maverick is someone who does't take the clear marked path, and is a rebel. The general public doesn't know that cedar fair has already trademarked the name for merchandise, so therefore they are just hinting to them the name
July announcement. There really is only so much hype you can create. I think now with the track spotted and construction already starting they should announce it in the next few months.
Let me put it this way. If they announce an Aqua Trax coaster in December (Assume much more hype) I think most of us will be let down big time.
Now please don't think that unless it's 500 feet I will be let down. But I would hope that after al this it will be something in the amazing catagory.
