Turkeys, the only animal smarter than man
Hey, Chief, what makes you think those boats are only "a few years old"?? Those boats have been around for as long as I can remember. They were originally part of the Western Cruise.
Vitamized: I've only been to CP 3 times this year, but each time Chaos has been running, and has had a line. It is one of the most popular flats CP has. I've only heard of one accident involving a Chaos ride (MiA) and it was noted that the fault was not with the manufacturer, but with maintenance. Maybe I've been a lucky season pass holder as I've never seen Chaos down. I know it was down once this year for a brief period. But I don't see your "unreliability" issue.
Obviously you don't like the ride, or you wouldn't have called it a POS twice (rather juvenile in my book). But I'd bet there are more people who would prefer to see CP move and keep Chaos than those who would prefer to see it removed entirely.

The Western Cruise dock was relocated to the Gemini Midway for the 1987 season to accommodate Iron Dragon. That's when the ride was renamed 'Paddlewheel Excursions'
Dan is correct. PWE used the old style boats from Western Cruise until being replaced by the new style in 1997.

After reading the responses to my last post I am fully convinced people don't know how to put two and two together. Regardless of how long a flat ride's line is, it will still have low capacity. This fact is a given and will not be taken into consideration. What WILL be taken into consideration is that when a ride such as Chaos is consistently shut down for maintenance reasons, then its overall capacity will suffer. I am well aware that many people who post here walk by the ride, see it running and think that all is fine and good. Consider that, after the incident at Michigan's Adventure last year, Chaos was shutdown for two weeks. After it reopened, maintenance performed daily white glove inspections on the ride that took much more time and effort than the mandated inspections for most flat rides. After the incident with Chaos this year, you can rest assure that, in the spirit of indemnity, maintenance had to invest extra time and effort into running the ride once again 'just to be on the safe side.'
Does this effort spent signify that the ride is reliable?
Does Cedar Point still thinks the ride is reliable after the two incidents?
I honestly have no clue.
Furthermore, any amusement park rides will have minor mishaps causing striated segments of downtime. In the instance of Chaos, which already has lowered capacity in the past two seasons from the large chunks of downtime created by the unlucky incidents and not even taking the usually nominal flat ride capacity into consideration, is all the effort and time really worth it?
These roundabout musings are what I based my list on. Do I think the ride is unreliable? More than likely. Do I think it has low numbers? Of course it does, it's a flat ride. Is all the investment in money and manhours worth saving a ride with a pretty severe stigma attached to it? That is not my decision and such is why I am not making these decisions for Cedar Fair.
And, for that matter, the people who probably know for sure whether the ride is going to be completely removed or not aren't going to say until announcement time.
If removal DOES happen, I am having little trouble finding just cause.
P.O.S. is a delicate term that I don't use often. Indeed, I think any contraption requiring excessive amounts of preventative upkeep, be it a car, toaster or flatride, is probably not the greatest piece of machinery ever to grace the face of the earth. I agree that my rampant, flippant use of the expression may have been juvenile, but accusing me of being juvenile isn't exactly, umm, un-juvenile if that makes any sense.
(Thanks for giving me an opportunity to defend myself. I need to get in shape for the debate season. :-))
