I think that 2000 won't be topped (capital improvement-wise) for several years to come. They could possibly have more in the bank for next year, but just like every year, they spend money on general improvements.
Also, with rumors that MIA (possible hyper) and VF (clone of WT) all getting coasters, Cedar Fair is hitting the competition hard this year. There will be less money for just Cedar Point to expand so this is another reason why I believe they will only spend 16-20 million on the ride.

I doubt that the park is really concerned with maintaining a ride's "royalty" status. If you can go bigger and the cost is still economical, why not do it? It will just further assert the park's reputation as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World.

Maybe they signed a 4 coaster contract with Intamin.
There is no tuch thing as coaster contracts with parks. Besides, Intamin has TONS of rides in the park besides MF, WT, and Dragster. (Demon Drop, AR/DT to name a few)

CPcyclone, perhaps that's because no one "in the know" was quick to dismiss such ride attributes... Why go for only 200 feet when you can use the same technology to go 400 feet? They already have 2 200 footers, a 300 footer, why not have a 400 footer? If it makes economical business sense, then why not?
The technology of coasters has advanced so rapidly in the past few years that the height record can be broken easily. Not building a 400 footer while the technology readily available seems like it would be a folly on the part of the park.

OMG! The Space Spiral is leaning!!" Must be the weight of that new air conditioning system everyone keeps hypothesizing about...
A 215 foot impulse follow by a 400 foot launched coaster isn't enough of a "wham-bam" or "1, 2 Punch?" They are hitting the competition hard.

310ft monster, 215ft impulse, ¿400ft+? launched...
This could easily be considered a knock-out! ;)
