Man, if I had a dollar for every Monty Python reference that was posted around here I would have been a rich man a month ago. :)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Yeah, Tony and Tyler are sitting at home loving this dicussion.

Reg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Attendee: Brought peace?
Reg: Oh, peace - shut up!

Some Life of Brian for you :-) .

The whole Smart Bus System being voted out of Livonia late last year. It was presented in a fashion that made it sound like the City wanted to handle the transportaion by having their own bus system, but it's really to keep the blacks from coming in to the city to work from Detroit. Further proving that theory is that the city has no plans for a bus system in place.

Sorry... off topic. Contact me if you want to further the discussion.

Anyway, I'm not reading into the BT in the picture link.

Well, I read through this whole thread upon my return from Sandusky and my only observation is this: Not one post from Jeff. "Those who know....".

Well of course. That's how it always is. Although speculation is fun no matter how much you do or don't know.

How true. He mentioned in another thread that he does in fact know, and that someone had guessed the new attraction(s) - only that it was not here at PB.

I've been thinking about the '07 thing quite a lot (obviously many others have as well) lately. There have been a couple things that have stuck out in my mind, and while I really feel like a sellout by speculating here, I just want to put my thoughts into type. So, here goes...

So, what do we know?

  • The Space - We know that there is about 5 acres of vacant land available, which is about as much land as MS takes up. Put simply, that's a good chunk of real estate.
  • The Timing - Looking back at the last few years, we've seen CP install MF, WT, TTD, Maxair and now Skyhawk. That's two height-crashers (and, yes, its actually 3 - talking strictly coasters here) and two flats.
  • CP's Concerns - We've all heard by now that CP has been wanting to increase the amount of activity in the back of the park, hence SH's location. While SH will help bring people back there, its going to be slightly offset by the removal of WWL - this year at least.

Okay, so looking at the above points leads one to assume that something big will be put where WWL once stood. Define "big" though. Does that mean a 500-footer? Or dueling flyers? Who knows? I do know what it could mean though. Two words...

"Boom Town"

What's Boom Town, you ask? Let me explain... Boom Town will be an area in the back of the park consisting of land where WWL once stood, as well as a small portion of land in the surrounding area. This will be a sub-themed area. That is, Boom Town will be a subset of Frontier Town. ("Boom" as in a town that had rapid prosperous growth in the new "Frontier") The area will consist of several new attractions, anchored by one major thrill ride, themed appropriately. The attractions will likely include flats, restaurants and so forth.

Now, keeping in mind that this theory holds no more water than the 500-footer/dueling flyer nonsense, you may be wondering what the basis for these assumptions might be. Well, the above bulleted points, along with things I've felt could happen were major contributors. Then, there was the infamous OnPoint! blog photo, mysteriously named "BT03".

Of course, these are simply my own meandering thoughts combined with a tad of reasoning. And a dash of hope tossed in for flavor.

Dj, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think you may have something there, but only time will tell.

First trip June 23rd

I don't know if anyone else has looked at this but i think there may be some more visible footers that nobdoy has noticed yet. Take a look at the picture Tony and Tyler posted of the new train track placement. I think I can see some footers on the left and one even has that noticable blue tarp. Its pretty hard to see but take a look for yourself...

^ I didn't catch that.
But now that I look at it,It looks like on the left center of the page there is a rebar structure almost exactly like the poured footer.

It does kind of look like there are some that are visable. I think I see 3 or 4 possible footers in the pic....but it's too hard to make out.
There's only a 9 day difference between the 2 posts so it's possible.

I still say if Cedar Fair is worried that families are coming less to the Point then building a 500 footer or something with multiple inversions is not what they should be building. They took out one of the few significant rides in the park that almost the entire family could ride together.

I'd like to see a new super flume with some of the newer elements like backward fluming, dip hills, etc.

If what the Chief believes is true, I agree. I see a famiy freindly ride coming, not a thrill ride. We'll see.

Mayor, Lighthouse Point

Once again, look at it from a business standpoint. Cedar point is not a park for the locals. They have built it up as a destination. The only real competition is SFMM. For the most tourism in Sandusky, you need to keep with the times and build to extreme. Look at CP's history since Corkscrew. If they had wanted the family atmosphere as THEE selling point, they would put themselves in competition with Geagua Lake and Michigan Adventure. Put in large water parks and keep the locals coming back. Put in enough larger attractions to entice the enthusiasts.

Both Skyhawk and Maxair are very large rides and may still intimidate the Mom's and kids and are not the most family friendly rides on the market. Why would they compromise the reason people are drawn to Cedar Point by promoting a family atmosphere. They do draw a lot of families true, but the core of thier business is the big rides.

What is the compitition doing and what are the reasons that people are drawn to other parks? My guess is that "X" is a big draw to SFMM and also one of the longest waits at the park consistantly.

CP is a business and publicly traded by Cedar Fair. Investors want to see any investment create more profits for the park. More profits are generated by attendance and keeping costs to a minimum. Every new ride will have maintenance costs that must be absorbed into what should become an increase in attendance. So any new major investment should be in line with the amount of time it takes to create profit.

Bigger, better, and faster has always been profitable for Cedar Point. Keep pouring footers and let the rumors fly!

I think you guys both have good points here. This is why I think that building a 500 footer wouldn't make sence. I could be wrong though, but I'm just going to give my opinion. We already have Top Thrill Dragster and its up and down. I'm not saying that 500 ft won't break down as much too, I'm saying that I think they'll probably put in more of something that White Water Landing was. It leads me to think that it will be a water coaster because if they have the White Water Landing station still up and now they are putting in footers. So In my opinion, the word big doesn't really make me want to jump for joy. I can see this being a Water Coaster because that's something the whole family can enjoy. I can also see them squeezing in like another junior coaster for the little ones in the back of the park.

^I agree that Cedar Point is more of a destination than a "local" park but I don't see how they are in competition with a park 2,500 miles away. Enthusiasts are probably the only group of people that would choose one or the other. The additions in the last few years have aimed towards a different audience than coaster enthusiasts. Maxair, skyhawk, and CB are great additions to target to people that don't want to ride a 300+ foot coaster.

With that being said, I believe that they are going to put in a coaster for 07. However, I don't think it's gonna be "500 feet". Other than Steel Dragon every coaster above 300 feet is made by Intamin. Would CF risk buying another Intamin monster just to say they have the record? I would like to believe that they wouldn't. But since you bring up X, I wouldn't have any objections to a 4D!!
