News: Cedar Point blog shows footers at WWL site - Part II

I can't see any water ride as being a big direct draw for Cedar Point. If they get a particuarly wet and thrilling water ride it would attract by a better experience and word of mouth. Certianly a lack of a long wait on hot days would be a good benefit as well.

I don't see that happening in this case mostly because of the footer placement. There are only a few days left untill everyone will see where they are.

Just because everyone will be able to see where the footers are, doesn't necesaraly mean they are done pouring footers. They might be, but they have a whole year 'til the 07 season starts.

And if I may ask ForgottenEE, what about the footer placement makes you think it couldn't be a water ride?

I very well could be wrong, Mr. Scott. Just my opinion. But I'm still expecting some type of steel record breaker. I'm NOT saying a 500 footer by any means, but CP has a habit of building record breakers that people aren't expecting such as tallest inverted, tallest double twisting impulse: ie Wicked Twister. Things of that nature.

If weather is the deterrent to a water ride then someone needs to explain to me why they build and continue to expand Soak City, why they built Thunder Canyon, and why they build Snake River Falls.

Im sorry, but i do not think that this new ride will be a water ride of any kind. I dont think that they would need to start pouring footers now. the only ride that was being built this early in the year was top thrill dragster. if it was a water ride i dont think they would build so early for it

Exactly, Chief. Look at Michigan's Adventure's success with water rides. And we are located near the North Pole up here! ;)

The footers we have seen are likely not for a water ride, but that certainly doesn't mean we're not getting a water ride for 2007.

Someone on CoasterBuzz has said that the queue line for Thunder Canyon is/was being relocated. Has anyone else heard this or seen it?

It is true. It was mentioned in the list of changes for '06, and has been confirmed thrice.

That's quite possible even though it's just a rumor especially if this is in fact a coaster. The layout could extend over the swan pond over to where the Thunder Canyon queue is, but that would be a big layout if you ask me.

It's gonna be a water interactive coaster.

I'm the Mayor of Lighthouse Point, I should know. ;)

has it been mentioned how in this pic:

you can clearly see another bulldozer or piece of construction equipment dead center...i mean maybe it's just me, but looking at how deep in the ground it is really intrigues me if anyone hadn't already pointed this out....

and also for those that say they wouldnt build a water ride a year in advance, look at expedition everest(i know its not a water ride), but the track was finished a year before the theming was added, maybe the same is true for this project, which is quite possible since the ride SHOULD fit in with the frontiertown theme

Yes, whatever there is there, there's definitely a bit of a hole, or atleast quite a bit of a dip. Looking across the lake from Battery Park you can tell that there are some huge mounds of dirt.

There is quite a set of trenches back there, and a lot of footers. I can't wait till Friday when I get another look at it going back around to Breakers to check in.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I still think that this will be some sort of record breaking coaster, water may be involved in the themeing of this ride. If cedar point really wanted to bring people to that part of the park a water ride wouldnt do it, especially during the cool months of may beginning of june september and october, it just doesnt seem that they would put this much time into something that wont be busy year round.

Funny they can dig that deep.. what about the water table?

Thats what I'm kind of thinking cpfanatic2006. The water rides dont exactly get the biggest crowds during the cooler months. IMO, a water coaster, or water ride in general, isn't the best choice.

Although, now, I dont think the next ride will be a 500 footer(unless its planned to go WAY off the WWL area). I do like that idea of a midway connecting to the dead end by MS with the coaster in the middle.

I still think we're going to see a family-friendly coaster. Something like a tamer version of California Screamin', that is a long and fun ride that the whole family can enjoy.

500 footer? I don't think so and honestly I hope not.

I'm thinking it's either an Intamin Aquatrax or a nice compact floorless. Not too big but big enough to provide a decent thrill. Say about 115 ft.

Whatever this new ride is, it WILL break records. The last 3 major coasters (MF, WT, and TTD) and even the last 2 rides (maXair & Skyhawk) that CP has added have ALL been record-breaking rides in at least some way. This new ride HAS to be record-breaking or a "first of its kind" type of ride.

Just look at what CP has done for this 2007 ride ... they tore down a fairly popular attraction to build it a year in advance ... they're creating a bunch of hype about it with the teasers on the OnPoint blog ... CP just doesn't do this kind of stuff for no reason. They know what they're doing, and they're waiting to surprise us all!

Personally, with all these signs, I doubt the water ride theory. I consider myself a "sweet new coaster" theorist. ;-) But either way, I'm betting it'll be more awesome than we can even imagine right now ...
