News: Cedar Point blog shows footers at WWL site - Part II

I do think it will be a water ride also. It will be either a completely new twist on the flume ride, with faster water, multiple drops, uphill sections, etc. Or a hybrid water coaster. But it will have at least one splash down where riders will get wet.

The ride will feature individual boats or cars, not a train, so it is a good bet that the old WWL station will be reused. OldCPer, I'm guessing that they will get new pumps though. They had problems with the WWL pumps, and the new ride probably has different pumping requirements.

This will be a family adventure ride called Maverick. It will be much more thrilling than White Water Landing, but not too extreme. The entire family will enjoy this ride. I'm predicting that this will be a family ride in the style of PKI's Italian Job, but will have water and a western theme. And, this new ride will turn out to be one of Cedar Point's biggest hits.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I'd like to see a flume similar to Splash Mountain (though probably not as well themed or with such an elaborate story). Will multiple drops (with splashes) all leading up to the big drop.

Pete you sound like you have the details already for the 2007 season. If you are correct that sounds like it will be one heck of a water ride. Now If Cedar Point wanted to they could go the coaster route and put in a water coaster with multiple drops and maybe a couple above ground caves where the train goes through it off and on. It would be like Paramounts Kings Islands own Adventure express with the tunnels.

Shikra does go thrue the water, it has steel tubes on the back of the train that scoop up and spray the water.

When we were there in the fall we noticed this.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Nope Shawn, I don't know anything more than anyone else. Just some guesses based on little pieces of information that is publicly available.

I will say though, that I was one of the first to correctly guess what will go on top of the footers at the Dodgem 1 site, when they were digging the "basement" for the restaurant, as some people thought.

Yes, I think it will be one heck of a water ride :)

Booo

I have been speculating the same thing for months.

I don't think it will be called "Maverick". I think that name will be used for some other purpose...or maybe even some other park.

I don't see any tie-in between Maverick and a water ride.

Well, Cruise's plane died and crashed into the water in Top Gun, so there's SOME bit of reference.

Ah ha! Maybe it will be a flyer with some sort of water splash. Similar to part of Italian Job: Stunt Track... :)

Except that Mav's jet didn't crash down in the early 1900's.

Brandon

Well, if water is going to be involved with this new ride - why not an Intamin Aqua trax?

Personally, I think a 4D going over or through water would be one hell of a ride.

Oops... I forgot about that... :)

...doesn't have to be a coaster.

Amen.

I'm just as a diehard coaster fan as the next enthusiast, but be realistic. The park isn't there just to serve thrill seekers.

PKI spokeswoman Maureen Kaiser said:

At Kings Island, the goal isn't always to break a record.

Amen.

Frontier Town could use a new flume similar to Disney's Splash Mountain. A water/dark ride combination that will offer fun and enough excitement for the entire family, but not so much to get riders completely soaked.

Skyhawk looks like a cool addition, but tallest and fastest can be descibed in one word these days: Yawn.

- Uncle Jay

Well, I would hardly "Yawn" over a new coaster that breaks records. And I highly doubt that you would either.

Your-Moms-Gotta-Mullet,

I was refering to "tallest and fastest" in general, not tallest and fastest coaster.

Also, I did yawn when Kingda Ka was announced.

If Cedar Point builds a water coaster, I think it would be cool if it was like this coaster:
http://rcdb.com/id2385.htm
It reminds me of the old Shoot the Rapids ride.

Race For The Sky!

I'm not pretending to be any kind of expert, but I honestly don't think it will be a water ride. I don't see CP sinking that much money into something that I don't believe will be a huge draw. Because of the weather on the peninsula, I don't think a water coaster will be as big of a draw as it would at a park in a warmer climate. The weather can be pretty chilly in May as well as in late September and through October. Those are the months that I typically come to the point and I'm really not going to want to get wet when it's that cool.

I think you are wrong, DRose.
