News: CEDAR POINT ANNOUNCES DETAILS ON NEW ROLLER COASTER; MAVERICK WILL RUSTLE UP RIDERS IN 2007

Well i guess i will put in my 2 cents. I thing the coaster is a great design. The themeing on it looks great, far more then cedar point has done in the past, especially in the landscape areas.

A lot of unique ideas jump right out at me. The use of LSM's to carry the train up the lift hill is the first thing I noticed. It seems that this may be the new standard in roller coaster lift hills. No chains to maintain, cables to break, motors or pumps to fail. They obviously are a lot more complicated in the setup and may cost more to use based on the power requirements. however, no moving parts is usually a good thing. The Controls systems for it will definetly be more complicated.

Next, the heartline roll near the end looks intense, the inversion so close to the ground at a decent speed looks really cool.

Other then that, i just dont get the WOW factor looking at it. All of the other rides had a WOW factor for me. TTD was like wow, never seen anything like that before. Millennium force, again wow. This one, atleast to the normal eye, looks like any regular coaster. Besides the enthuasists, i dont think people will look at it and say, "I dont care how long it takes to get there, i have to ride it".

But that is just my opinion. Me, if i get the chance to make it there next year, i will definetly ride it. But being from chicago, i am not planning my summer vacation around it like i have for past rides.

This whole thing is just a ploy to make sure we don't figure out the new ride. The new coaster will be 500 ft tall. ;)

But seriously, I'm going to love this ride to death. But there is one thing I have to ask. I saw in the ride animation that the trains only hve 3 cars. Did they just do this for the animation, or do you think it will really be like this?

Arguing with a coaster enthusiast is like wrestling with a pig in mud. After a while, you realize the pig enjoys it.

I wanted to stay up last night for the announcement, but alas I had to be to work at 7 am so I needed my beauty sleep. This looks like it will be a great addition to the park for all to enjoy. My son will finally get to ride with me on a "grown up coaster", he is so excited.

Cedar Point never ceases to amaze me with how they promote a new ride. The new web page is fantastic.

Yeah, I too am impressed by the Maverick information. With all of the animations, interviews, stats and so forth, its exceeded my expectations.

Jeff that HD camera rocks. Seriously. Good job with that one.

It surprised me too that it will have 3 cars for a coaster train. I was thinking it would have the same amount like Dragster. Oh well, this coaster is still going to Rock!

I am trying to figure out what the building is that you go past just after the first hill.it has a pipe leading up to it that is coming out of the ground.

Its some sort of themeing. It looks as though it is some sort of oil or coal drilling portion, fitting in with the old west theme

^ That pipe is for the Aquatrax portion of the ride. Haven't you heard?

I'll tell you what, this thing is going to seem a heckuva lot faster than 57 mph. All those twists and turns through the canyons, the headchoppers, the waterfall... I'm salivating at the prospect. It will be a WILD ride.

Did anyone else notice the lack of steps alongside the lift in the animation?

Now, I would imagine they would be needed for maintenance to inspect the hill each morning, but my real question is this - Would they be necessary for evacuation? Or will the train just glide back down the hill and stop at the last set of kicker wheels and evac would be there?

Also, I realize the animation is not necessarily the finished product, so this may have been left out.

I'm guessing with a LIM lift it would just roll back and stop at the base.

When you're doing an animation such as that, you normally leave SOME parts of the ride out that aren't important. Things like steps on lift hills, usually the chain on a lift (if there is one), railings on brake runs/blocks, etc... We know there will be stairs though because the lift track has outriggers on it plus the stair treads themselves are in the staging area. Actually, the railing is too. :)

Leave that stuff out but animate skyhawk? Animate the kicker wheels? If you're getting that detailed, its not too much to put in a static set of stairs. But I see what you're saying.

Looks great. Even the theming throughout the whole ride. The POV is probably the best POV animation I've ever seen.

Well, I think the wheels sorta add to the video. I'm actually surprised he put in the LSM modules, but since they're called out so many times in the verbage, I can see why they're there. But, stairs on a lift would distract the average viewer, so they're left out. Animating Skyhawk adds realism to the animation.

LSM's also act as brakes. If the power were to fail, the train would slowly roll back to the base of the lift. Did anyone else notice that there are even people walking on the midway when you hit the brake run?

Does the average viewer have a terminal case of ADD?

I think the animated skyhawk distracts even more because its an animated item outside the realm of this ride.

You may recall that he already animated Skyhawk last year. It would've been silly not to include it!
