New this year

I think that most of you might be misunderstanding what they said about the light show and it changing with the seasons. From what I understood, the press release didn't say that the light show would be different depending on what season it is, it said that the show will symbolize the changing of the seasons. I think that it means that each night the light will go through a cycle that looks like one of the four seasons and throughout the show the lights will slowly change to the next season and it will go through the cycle during the whole night with the lights constantly changing colors and having other lights come on to make it look like it's constantly changing from one season to the next. That's what I understood, but I could be wrong.

Personally I think they're color-changing LEDs that represent the current time of year/a holiday based on a preprogrammed lighting design. I could be wrong, of course..

I am happy just o be able to get back to coaster riding! Plus after my trip to the Point today and seeing all the workers getting things ready, its will be cool just to ride! I noticed that the Gemini has new wood in many places this year! Looking good!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

The LED lights seems like a pretty cool improvement. Although I'm not sure what the Toledo Zoo will think of it; perhaps they got their inspiration from the "Lights Before Christmas" at the zoo.

Did you get any pictures while you were at the park?

I know some of this has been said, but here's my two cents on the issues.

1. Maintenance -- I know bulbs break daily, and that happens, but if you look at other parks, for example Kennywood (I'm from Pittsburgh), there are much more bulbs than Cedar Point, and they're rarely out, and the hedges and all of the scenery is trimmed daily. I'm not saying that Cedar Point needs to spend an enormous amount on scenery, but decent maintenance, especially for the bathrooms, would be nice.

2. Wait time screens -- There was a previous comment, that said that there is no incentive for Cedar Point to have them, because it wouldn't benefit them monetarily. I might actually come back more times because I will probably be able to ride more roller coasters. Additionally, just like the fast passes at Disney, people would know where the large lines are, and more effectively distribute the people in the park, giving more time for people to buy things.

3. Food -- so the food is terrible, what's new. Just eat at Chick Filet or TGI Fridays (In one of the hotels by the beach), and its much cheaper, and maybe then Cedar Point might change the quality/price of its food.

4. What ever happened to the fast pass type system where you got your hand stamped, and you could go to the front of the line? I don't see why they aren't still doing it, and it was very good.

TTD,

Yeah it (light show) could...be good. But this is CP dealing with technology here. It is kind of an oxymoron.

Just look at the season pass situation last year. Honestly 1 million for some LED lights.......and they couldn't even have the parks running the same POS system.

I am probably most upset about this because I had to deal with this problem first hand. Losing 2 platinum pass card's opening weekend at the point. CP had no way to tell if I was an actual passholder, or just some person trying to get in for free.

It's like come on guys, quit half assing everything. You half ass DT, the ID card system, and the ranting can go on.

CP is like a kid with ADD. They have a great idea, start it, and then mid-way through they forget about it and they'll get to it another time I guess.....

Oh and I guess the only thing I don't care for family wise is the fact they try to be for families, but all the family stuff are childrens areas that offer nearly the same attractions.

Not one thing at CP makes me go, damn I wish I was a kid so I could climb all over that!

Sure Planet Snoopy! was a nice attempt, and an improvement even. But if they would have just followed through and made an epic childrens area...well then it would be epic.

alexb - CP gets a cut of the profit from TGI Fridays and any other place on the peninsula. But by eating at nicer food joints we do vote with our money and show that we are not going to eat county fair food.

I don't care if a bulb is out. While it does add a sense of unprofessionalism, especially when your competition is well.....blowing you out of the water in terms of looking like a high end entertainment park.

I disagree with you dude about Cedar Point having ADD comment you made. They keep their promise when it comes to building new rides and coasters for example. Maverick was starting being planned in 2005 however they waited until 2007 to unveil it because they had to get rid of White Water Landing. And I'm just taking a guess here, but I'm sure that Millennium Force was probably in the process of being planned after Mantis was built.

Just because Cedar Point is not building a new ride this year and last year, doesn't mean this will suck. I'm willing to give the lights a chance. Who knows you might walk down Frontier Trail and say Wow that looks cool.
And yes Planet Snoopy may have the same rides that Camp Snoopy has, but the kids are not really going to know the difference. The parents might, but the kids won't.

Yeah the park is looking really nice. The new sign on the causeway is shaping up, looks very nice where it is by the way. Blue Streak has been repainted, and it also looks like Millienium has been repainted as well (not sure but it looked better). I didn't get a good look at everything, mainly just the main entrance yesterday, which is shaping up pretty well with new concrete and some bricks. It should be a really good year and I'm definattly looking forward to it. PM me if you would like a link to the pictures.

I just saw your pics and the park does look great.

OMG! New CP trashcans too.;)

The new paint on BS does also look awesome! I sure hope you're right about the MF paint job too.

Never mind my PM I got the pics from your signature!

The New Trashcans are awsome! Pretty Fancy Stuff! I wonder if they changed all the cans throughout the park.

The new paint on Blue Streak looks great. I love that it is more of a neon Blue then the powder blue.

The season pass center doesn't look too busy, I hope it isn't too crowded when I go on the 9th.

Raptor is on the tracks! Raptor is on the tracks! Hopefully they test it before 8 a.m. on the 16th. The station looks like it got some fresh paint?

Great Pictures!

Oh, do you think? They get to keep money for owning and running a restaurant? That's crazy!

Thanks! I thought the new trash cans looked kinda odd, but none the less a little bit cooler. They have the same cans at Kings Island as well.

I agree with you, pointperson, the paint on Blue Streak does look more neon. I think it needed it though.

I love the paint of Blue Streak! It gives a great look to the ride, I really like the multi-color look! The paint really represents era of the ride!

The cans look look kinda odd because we've been seeing the famous brown rubbermaid cans for so many years. The gray makes them look more modern and clean, hopefully know one misses when the go to throwout their Icee, because the spills and stains will probably be really noticable.

I doubt they are going to replace all of the old cans.

Never mind I answered my own question. They are not replacing the old cans because you can see pictures of them bring the out of storage and the are on the webcam stacked on the midways.

I also meant to say that I did see a few of the old cans out front, you might be able to catch a few in the pictures. I still think these cans look a tad bit nicer though.

They better get moving on those banner polls. Heck they should have called the company I worked for. We can put those up and make the banners in like 3 days.;)

And holy moly is that a CRAPLOAD of pavers! The entrance plaza's gonna look really nice come opening day. I loved what they did with Diamondback's and Beast's area and I'm glad they went with pavers for the entrance plaza. Let's see what else:
The new entrance sign is looking nice.

Blue Streak looks striking so far.

Hope there's more of the new trash cans throughout the park.

Wicked Twister is still back towerless.

And for anyone who can confirm Millennium's said paint job, what areas are they're focusing on?

P.S.-I'm angry that they're spending the unsaid millions to fix up the park like this! I mean it could be going somewhere else for the pete's sake!;)
