To get back on topic...How about they tear down the metal fence that runs along the Magnum queue and replace it with a textured white concrete wall with a railing on top that matches the ornamental design of the station platform. For a sign, duplicate the logo that appears on the station roof section, but put that on a vertical extension on top of the new wall, with the logo "right justified" against the queue entrance. The idea here is to tie the station and the queue together in some kind of coherent fashion.
Oh, and either eliminate the old Freeway entrance, or get a chain and sign for the main entrance that says, "<-- Please use short entrance <--"

That's a nice idea, but Im just trying to grasp a few things.
1)Exactly what design are you referring to?
Ther wall on the station platform that zig zags with the blue railing on top of it?
2)You said tear down the metal fence that runs along the Magnum queue, so I take it youre referring to the one on the midway, where the entrance is?
I ask because I'd like to make a design of it since I think it'd be nice to get a visual idea of what you described.

There is concrete all over the park, that is hardly a means for concern. Not to mention metal (which the queue lines are made out of) get hot too when the sun is shining on them.
Which is why you will never see me in the park midday in late June-early August (Ill be living it up in the Soak City Lazy river, or having an extended lunch at TGI Fridays) the Magnum line is refreshingly one of the few places that actually has some shade in it. And my only major complaint about CP themeing is that the park has paved over way too many trees. Sun roofs are not the same, they hold in the heat under them, and dont cool the area like trees do via their respiration.
Adam, I think Dave is referring to a concrete-stucco wall like the station has.

Oh my, I might be thinking of a different fence. I was thinking of the chain link fence with the plastic in it that seperates the Magnum queue from the Breakers Parking Lot. While I still dont think I like the idea, a little 3-ft fence seperating the queue from the midway wouldnt probably be too bad (just dont harm the trees) while I think a 7 ft fence seperating the park from the outside would look hideous and a lot like a prison's outer walls.
CP actually uses really nice fences on the outside of the park. Its basically the same fence you see lining TTDs launch. Very NON-prison like.
The way I pictured Dave's idea was replacing the fence that runs separating the midway with the "wooded" area between the actual queue cement area and the midway. I looked briefly but couldn't find a picture of the area.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Non prison like, yes; nice not really. Its basically you're basic chain linked fence with some plastic in between the links to make the fence not see through (and discourage people from jumping it. I wish they would push that back a little (or the queue since it hardly ever fills now a days) to add a row of bushes between the line and the actual fence.
The thing I think that would look like a prison wall would be if the suggested design was incorporated into the queue since in order for the concrete fence to work it would need to be at least 5-6 ft tall in which would make it look very much like a prison wall.
To clarify, I think these are the fences that Tim is referring to:

What I am suggesting is to construct a wall on the midway side of the Magnum queue that looks like the station wall. The trick is that it goes outboard of the existing tree line, and would probably be about 4' high to the top of the top rail...about like the height of the station wall. Just to the left of the entrance is a Magnum logo on top of the wall.
Has anybody got a photo of the current entrance, preferrably showing the existing benches and stuff along the left-hand side? It would be simple to draw this out...

If anyone has a photo, it would be Doug!!
Btw, thanks for illustrating the fence type I was talking about. Personally I think its a great fence for where they use it. It looks 200 times better thank chain link.
Well, I looked through Doug's site and didn't find anything. And I looked through THIS site and didn't find anything. That part of the ride is just plain UGLY! :)

Edit: And although it's a night shot, here's a picture of the current entrance:

Which is why part of me wants it to remain hidden, for I allways spend my last 20-30 min marathoning Magnum, which on most nights means at least 3 rides (personal best being 5, but that was when I was younger and stupider and ran from exit to enterance, now I just walk) and would hate to see it get lines MF and Raptor get at closing.
Something tells me, as much as I LOVE Maggie, that even if the entrance was all lit up at night, it wouldn't get lines like MF and Raptor.

Ride on, MrScott!
Dave, I like your idea but I wouldn't use the wall as a fence. The proportion of the width (very long) vs. the height (not very) I think would look odd. I think a wall like you described (8' long by 4' high) opening into a covered entrance way (the short wall to the left of the entrance when you're facing it). To the right, a full-height wall (same height as the entrance roof) with an angular top (like the station design) with the Magnum logo.
Hmm... maybe I should sketch this out. More complex than I thought...
Best, Ross
