CP slowed way down on building coasters. The only reason they built them during the 90's until the mid 2000's was because that was the time of the coaster wars. The coaster wars are pretty much over now. There was 6 years between Maverick and GK. I'm guessing next coaster will be 2018.

Because that was during the Coaster War period.
There were no coaster wars. They were made up by enthusiasts and TV shows. They built coasters because they drove attendance and there was new product in the market.

^^ Thank you, Jeff for stating the obvious. I don't understand enthusiast obsession with preconceived ideas of building patterns/roller coaster wars. Parks don't build based on patterns or "wars" they build rides to keep things fresh and keep turnstiles turning and they do so whenever they feel the time is right.
Of course parks will build when they think the time is right. And the time is right when they would like to see an increase in attendance and have the cash to build, thus the point of "keeping things fresh". To say that there is no "war" i.e. competition between parks would not be correct.
In order to drive the attendance numbers there was a time when the biggest, fastest, steepest, etc.. was the way to go. If those things didn't matter then why would every new coaster press release center around what records it will break. Cedar Point, during this time drove the height and speed barriers up and each time within a year or so another coaster came along to take the crown away.
Instead of saying that any "war"/competition is over (or never existed) for the next biggest/fastest/tallest I would theorize that instead parks have hit a cost barrier compared to return on investment and that more than anything else put a hold to the biggest/fastest/tallest competition.

Regardless of semantics, I think the point is sound: parks just don't build coasters at the same rate as they did in the late 90's/early 00's.
Well of course they don't... what are they going to build, and what ROI would it have? There comes a point where you'll blow the maintenance budget.

As much as I am sure we would all love another coaster for 2015, I am betting on one for 2017. While almost every one's first instinct is to think big, just keep in mind that Cedar Point has very little room for a ride without building into the parking lot so something would be removed. this seems to be the first year that there aren't even any leads to what we could possibly be getting, at least last year we knew that a coaster was likely with DT's removal. They usually announce late July/Early August (right? I feel like I am wrong) so I am hoping they (Tony) will start teasers soon.
It's a giant dil pickle. Er, dill. Whatever.
