Yes, I am sure the whole family idea is going to do a lot for FastPass sales too.
Remember, Matt O. Came from Disney. So did Michael Eisner - and they were glad to see him go.
This us New For 2014 as it relates to Cedar Point. If you want to talk about Six Flags, go to Coasterbuzz.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
So let me get this straight, SteveH. Innovation is the ONLY thing that makes a park worth while. The fact that Cedar Point has installed one cloned thrill ride and two cloned family rides makes it a worthless park that most people don't want to go to.
However, Six Flags doing the same thing to a wooden coaster that they've done twice already, and installing the exact same ride in New Jersey as there is in California is at the HEIGHT of amusement park innovation. Got it.

SF will get my $$$ in 2014. And likely many others that are looking for innovation.
Fortunately, the "many others" that are looking for innovation are out-numbered by the families looking for a fun vacation.

At what point does saying you are not heading to CP because it doesn't look as thrilling anymore, seem like a good idea on a CP fansite?
I too agree, this is amusing :)
The 2014 improvements would be SOP at a park like Disney, and certainly not hyped to the level we have seen over the last few years.
Read the last 30 pages of posts, and most contributors wanted something different as well.
The fanboys on this site have an attitude that everything at CP is great - yet there are a ton of people complaining about FP/FP+, food prices/quality, and are offering great ideas to fix these problems. But no one listens, benchmarks the competition, or points out flaws. If they do show someone has a better solution - they are told to either stay home or go elsewhere. If CP ever wants to reclaim the title "amazement park", they need to come up with a long term plan rather than this year "we are a family park", and next year "a thrill park".

And what should that "long-term plan" be, since you clearly know more about running parks then Cedar Fair's officers?

Last I checked CP has won the Golden Ticket since 1998. This means that CP is all around a great park. May I ask whet Six Flags and Disney are on the best amusement park list?

Ummmmm???? Isn't Cedar Point the one that innovates and the rest follow? First to 200 ft, 300 ft, 400 ft, tallest fastest impulse, tallest fastest wing coaster. Breaking records with just about every coaster they installed, most rides at one amusement park, tallest fastest swing ride (skyhawk).
Great high capacity rides designed to make the park better than before instead of just chasing after some stupid record (most coasters) or just coping a coaster and adding 20ft to take the record away and a poor attempt to even keep it running.
Just because CP decided not to install some low capacity cookie cutter ride, shoved in a parking lot doesn't mean they are lacking in innovation.

Well, coaster and park enthusiasts aren't exactly an accurate indicator of what the general public -- you know, the people who actually make up the bulk of Cedar Point's customer base? -- wants or is interested in.
Regardless of what a "ton of people" on a park enthusiast website are complaining about, regardless of what great ideas they may be offering, the decision makers at Cedar Fair are responding to what the majority of their customers support, what the majority of their customers complain about and what the majority of their customers would like to see at the park.
Cedar Point made up the title Amazement Park. They can reclaim it whenever they want. And do you honestly believe that Cedar Fair is just stumbling along from year to year, making it all up as they go along?
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
SteveH at it again. Always blaming it on the fanboys. Not EVERYONE here is a fan boy. Many of us are members at Coasterbuzz too ya know (so it goes beyond CP). I think, according to you, that anyone who disagrees with you or puts up a convincing argument is a "fanboy".
Yeah, I love Cedar Point, but I'm not fanboy. I have lots of other favorite parks too.
At any rate, where's the innovation with SF? They're doing the same as all the other chains. CF did something innovative this year, they're installing a first-of-its-kind dark ride at CW.
At any rate, coasters are not what its all about. I welcome these family additions. As a matter of fact, the park needs to add some more family rides, especially after removing so many over the years.
And the chain keeps pulling in record breaking numbers...yeah, they're doing horribly.
I get you want to ride coasters and if you want to go to the other parks, go ahead. I'll be going to Great America and Cedar Point both next year. But it pretty much sounds like you just want "coasters" and not a well rounded park....that's a usual GP problem. A lot of families welcomed this addition on the parks Facebook page, while the thrill junkies knocked it. Its ok, I'm sure a lot of them don't have business sense. I'm glad they don't run the park, it would've closed before it opened.
Who spends the most at parks? Families! So who do you want to attract? Families. If said family (or even thrill seeker) can only make it once a year, will they invest in FastLane? It's possible.
In short, don't knock a business plan that's working. I love coasters but I love these additions too. They're needed.
I think every park has a fine line as to what's for families and what is for thrill seekers. Not everything that Six Flags is adding will be thrill rides. Some are doing what Cedar Point is (adding rides like the flying eagles, it must be a new trend nowadays). At least two are revamping their kids areas, but then again I think Bugs Bunny's area at Magic Mountian is gonna have more kids coasters than anywhere else. Who knows what they have in their heads as they started doing upside down wooden coasters again. Maybe based on designs it will work better than Kings Island, but if one person dies or is injured or even complains about a head injury of some kind and it's the fault of Six Flags, something is wrong.
I agree, I love Cedar Point, but I also love other parks too, even the ones I HAVEN'T been too.
The dark ride everyone thought we were going to get was just announced at Canada's Wonderland, it's called Wonder Mountain’s Guardian. I like how they're tying it in so intimately with the existing structure, both in location and in story. Technology-wise, it's as if Toy Story Mania and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man had a baby. Looking forward to it.

When Cedar Fair is bought by an empire with an infinite supply of money and Cedar Point becomes an international vacation destination no longer bound by seasonal operation with over 17 million visitors a year, then maybe they'll be comparable.
That said, with the limited capital Cedar Point has available to them for the 2014 season, they're making the best most sensible use of it. The Gemini Midway is one of the - if no THE - most outdated area in the park. This update will bring unity to the area, by axing the outdated Gemini kiddie area and merging it into lively Camp Snoopy and then retooling the remaining area with new rides and a refreshed look. What's important is that both of the new rides can be enjoyed by the whole family and will help to put a dent in that shared-experience vacuum and the refreshed look of the area will add some energy to what has been a pretty dead midway. As someone who grew up with and loved the flying scooters at Geauga Lake more than any other flat, I'd have to say I'm pretty excited to start snapping again.
Look, I have been disappointed with Cedar Point for a very long time and can't stand the fanboyism I see on this site, but there isn't really anything wrong with this addition (IMO, of course). To complain about how it didn't meet the unrealistic expectations of enthusiasts who wanted a Disney-sized capital expenditure is just nonsensical.
Currently I'm a thrill seeking high schooler who craves for white knuckle coasters, and who could care less about making sure to get on that slow, mild ride. However, give or take 15 years from now and I'll have a wife and kids who I'll want to ride things with all of them. Even though the types of rides that will added next year don't excite me to the point where I'm saying "I can't wait to ride this--it looks amazing!" currently, I know that once I have a family of my own I will then crave for ride experiences like these. I may not benefit from these additions currently, but one day I will. It will be important for me to not only be able to go on a high thrill coaster, but also to make great memories of going on rides at the park with a wife and kids. The park needs more rides like these, and additions like these get me excited since I am assured to have rides I will be able to go on with my future family. Hopefully only more and more family rides will be added in the coming years. CP needs more low height requirement, tamer rides, and I'm very glad with what's coming

Tony's most recent "questions answered" post sounds more like a White House Syria press Briefing...
"Good question"
"it's not finalized"
"We are currently working on what that will be"
“Once that's final, I'll let you all know”
“Not sure on the train yet”
“We do have plans for the beach side of the hotel. However, those are being finalized”
“We are currently working to confirm”
“what's on the drawing is currently the plan. Of course, those can change”
“We're actually going to keep it” / “ ;) We're not keeping it”
“At this point, it's just a proposal, but nothing is confirmed here”
“What do you guys think? :)”
