I agree, and honestly I didn't mind the paint colors, it was very different. I don't see this as a "monster" anymore. Plus alot of little kids called it "Octopus" and it was quite fitting IMO.
It's still not as bad as KI's paintjob..All black cars, I'd hate to work that job during the summer, cotter pins and red plastic was hot enough, couldn't imagine with that much black everywhere
Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011
The station will remain the same since it was already spruced up with colors a few years back, but the structure will be painted lime green with purple hand rails. ;)
I don't think anything will change with Gemini's appearance. It would be cool to ride it on media day of the refreshed midway.
I like the new colors for Monster. That ride has been with us at Cedar Point since 1970 and hasn't seen a change since. When I worked at CP in the 70's the crew had shirts printed that said "The Only Orange One", as most Monster rides had black arms and black cars. The light bulbs and florescent tubes were yellow and green. IIRC, there was a ride at Busch Gardens, or someplace like that, that had either yellow or tan colored cars. I've also seen pictures of the ride that ran at Rockaway Playland, which I believe was a portable model, and it had the red orange cars, too. (so maybe that 1974 Monster crew was wrong...)
But the re-done Monster will look nice, and the blue lights are a hoot. I fear, however, they may use a programmable LED light package that will make the ride look like a bright, bright, hot mess at night. While Giant Wheel and Windseeker are ok, especially from a distance, I'm not a fan of that trend, they're too glaring for me, especially on a low lying flat. Many carnival midways are retrofitting their ferris wheels, Himalayas, claw rides, and swing rides with LED's and they can be headache inducing just to watch.
Or, you can call me old fashioned, I guess... :-)
You're old fashioned. ;)
I personally love the LED trend. Not only do I prefer the uniformity and/or lack of burned out bulbs, but I also love what they can do with them.
EDITED to add...
I wouldn't be surprised to see LED packages follow the trend in the automotive world, where they've shifted from discreetly-identifiable LED's to LED "pipes", which look a lot like neon tubes.

I agree somewhat with the lighting thoughts, the new LED lighting can look very sharp but there is something nostalgic about the classic carnival lighting I really enjoy. LED is a great idea for your home, the resort I recently left was just starting converting all of their lighting when all is said and don they will save in the area of 2.5 million a year in electricity alone.
I also hope in the next few years we see rides like Matterhorn and Calypso restored and with improved lighting. As well as dare I say some Disney like improvement to landscaping and restoring some of the classic lighting such as the lights on the midway from the marina gate. Those classic worlds fair lights would look great sandblasted and painted then the important part kept free of their collections of dead bugs.
