Yeah, Carowinds is getting $50 million over the next three years. But remember that Ohio is already getting $100 million over the next three. Granted King's Island's coaster and the hotels are taking a major portion of it.
.
$100 million included Gatekeeper. Ouimet said earlier this spring Cedar Fair would invest $100 million in Ohio over 3 years (2013, 14 and 15).

I thought it was said before that the $100 million for Ohio parks does NOT include the cost of renovating Breakers and the dorms. I could be wrong.
I think what you are refering to is that CP said the refurb of the resorts would not impact their normal park capex.
Ouimet said CF would invest $100 million over 3 years in Ohio in touting CF's commitment to Ohio and encouraging Columbus to invest more in tourism advertising. He's not going to leave out the millions in investment in Ohio resorts and Ohio infrastructure improvement too. That's still CF investment in Ohio.

The only reason you are disappointed is because its not what you were hoping for.
What am I disappointed in again?
I don't agree with people saying not to expect much in 2015. First, I think a dark ride is a great possibility if it is a success at CW. Second, Tony said that he's very excited about the years to come.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
As long as a "New for 2015" thread doesn't show up any time soon, I'll be happy haha.
Unless footers start popping up all over the place, let's just enjoy what was only announced yesterday. Though I am excited to see what will come next.

Coaster Count: 102
Yeah, there could still be more to the announcement later. They didn't announce the Hotel Breakers renovation last year until December (I'm pretty sure at least).
Weather Freak
Ride Warrior
They also didn't announce what restaurant will be going in over by the Camp snoopy store yet either.

Where is everyone hearing this? Could I please get a link.
The $100 million over 3 years and the separation of resorts renovation from normal/planned CP cap ex. are totally separate.
Hildebrandt said last winter that the hotel renovations would not affect (take away) from any planned/normal CP capex. It would be in addition to any park capital spending.
Ouimet said this spring he has encouraged Columbus to spend more on advertising for the tourism industry in OH as it is strong (similar to what MI is doing). He then went on to say, in fact we're planning on investing $100 million in Ohio over the next 3 years.
I'm confused why there is so much confusion about this. The resorts renovation and infrastructure upgrades are in addition to any planned CP capex (won't take away from park capex), but are clearly an investment made in OH by CF and part of the $100M Ouimet was talking about.
^ Does this include 2013 or starts at 2014? I get confused because I start adding things up:
IN MILLIONS
Gatekeeper + Front Gate: 30
Banshee: 25
Breakers and Dorms over 3 years: 60
If it doesn't include Gatekeeper those renovations than that is only 15 million for the next 3 years. If it does than it is over the 100 mark.
Looks like my vacation won't be to Ohio next year...

I'm glad to see wooden coasters being built but is it me, or is wood being pushed to its limits? How much more extreme are they going to go there?
Incorporating a drop tower with Kingda Ka seems creative. I don't know how I'd feel being dropped at 90 mph. Power Tower's 50 seems enough for me. This is the kind of stuff that attracts extreme thrill seekers, not families.
ETA: Six Flags is taking out their older wooden racing coaster for the new drop tower.

The title of this discussion is "New for 2014", and there is a world outside of Cedar Fair.
From the 30 pages of comments, few thought family improvements were needed.
I am just glad that a park chain is looking to these sorts of original ideas rather than just cloning rides like Windseeker or Flying Eagles.
Enthusiasts are a horrible barometer to use to justify whether a particular capital investment is worthwhile (just look at the ignorance in this thread for reference).
Furthermore, there's absolutely nothing original about a wooden coaster or drop tower. They're clones of existing rides.

Except you are posting in Cedar Point Forum > New for 2014 >
New for 2014. So i'll agree with t2fastspin on this one. While yes there is another world, this isn't the forum or post for that :)
Wooden coasters like Outlaw Run offer many original features - especially in the light of what we have in place now (Meanstreak). Adding on to TTD's tower (a drop tower, glass observation elevator, or something entirely different), makes sense as investment as well because a lot of the structure is ready and waiting.
I would just like to see some creativity and one-of-a-kind at CP, rather than off the shelf purchases duplicated at all the parks.
Enthusiasm is what all the teaser hype is about, and they need to come up with something that can stand on its own merits for several years rather than just one season.
Just because you're disappointed that CP isn't installing some record-breaking attraction next year doesn't mean they aren't making a smart business choice.
