New for 2006 - Skyhawk

djDaemon's avatar

I'm really hoping that the animation of SH is just very preliminary. Looking at the queue, it looks like most queues in the park - metal railings and concrete. It would be nice to see a new standard for rides back in FT, wherein queues would all be lined with wooden railing, similar to Gemini. I realize that cost would be a factor, considering the materials, installation and maintenance, but it would just help to better preserve the aura of the location as new rides are added and vegetation necessarily sacrificed.

The location is good though, and (as someone pointed out in a previous post) will give us a great view of the WWL site - aka "Area 52". ;)

:) ;) :)

TTD 120 (and anyone who's asking themselves that question), I choose TTD because it came right after Wicked Twister, which is a launched roller coaster; which, according to those who think Skyhawk sucks and is a bad decision, must mean that TTD sucks because it came right after WT.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Ok some of you are saying that all the ones that don't think the SH was a good idea just want a 500 footer.

I still think that CP needs more flat rides.

Amen. That's what I've been preaching about for a long time. I am a die hard coaster fan, but there needs to be some balance in the variety of rides at CP. If it's one thing most enthusiasts can't do it's think realistic.

Also, can someone post a link to this so-called article where Kinzel remarked about going out with a bang?

Oh, how I love the word "outdo"... so very subjective. For all we know, he might have already "outdone" TTD.

To classify as a woodie, you need the supports AND the track.

Not exactly correct. To be qualified for wooden-type coaster status you only need that type of wooden track. Look at the Villain, it is basically a steel erector set with wooden-type tracking.

I always thought those were considered hybrids.

Brandon

Yeah, but the tracking is still the same tracking that goes on any wooden rollercoaster. The behavior and sensations of the ride is the same.

Well here is a post that can make everyone take a collective sigh of relief, and put all the "negativity" behind where it belongs.

As of writing this there are 208 posts (this will be 209, or 210 depending on timing)

Of those 208 posts:

Only 12.9% have been negative about SkyHawk (27 posts)

Of those 27 negative posts, 61% were made by the same 4 people. (Only 12 posters total)

1 individual actually said "goodbye" to CP, which made us all laugh (thanks for the emotinal reaction LakaLand)

Its actually hard to call CpBound's comments negative, so our numbers may be even lower. His arguments are the the only ones that seem well thought out, and rational. There's 3 potential posts. Well said CpBound.

Overall, this means that a whopping 87% of the posts have been either positive, supportive, or about something else (a small percentage).

Looks like SkyHawk is a winner!!! Even on a site that could be highly critical, only 12 were SO mad they just had to speak out. I think CP will take an 87% satisfaction rate any day.

You knew what everyone else knew ... well, except the location.

If memory serves, I think Althoff suggested that the eventually-announced location had a lot more room than most everyone suspected.

We'll see if he was right about re-routing the CCMR exit, a la corkscrew's modifications for TTD's midway change.

^ I thought my posts were pretty rational. Well thats in the case that you are putting me in the negativegroup.

Actually CP4eva you were not included. Obviously, there is some subjectivity to declaring one "positive" or "negative"...I guess you came off as so rational that it did not even seem negative!

I do have a lot of spare time...sorta....Im studying for my generals (exams), so this site is a nice diversion.

Essentially, the point is that the negative posts are actually very tiny in numbers, mostly by the same people.

Wait a minute? Corkscrew is getting modifications? What does Corkscrew need fixed on it? The only thing that I can see that needs done would be to touch up some paint on it. Then Again Millennium Force needs a good paint job. I hope they're touching up the rest of Magnum this off-season too.

Shawn...don't get your shorts in a knot.

When they built TTD, they modified Corkscrew's exit. It used to have a longer exit (ala Gemini). Instead, they added steps down to the midway.

It's suspected they will modify CCMR's exit in the same way...instead of the long ramp...

Although if memory serves me (and it's certainly not as sharp as it used to be) I think the exit of CCMR ends right at the side of the old Frontier Lift station...so I don't really see needing to modify CCMR's exit at all.

I do suspect there will be lots of reworking of Snake River Falls queue

The removal of unneccessary "safety" features would be one thing that could be fixed on it.

Kevinj, thank you for your objective observations. I'm glad at least one person is able to accept all valid points; even those that conflict with the status quo.

Looks like the lockers were taken out in the past few hours.

As easy of a job it may seem, I'm still surprised this much progress has already been made. Lots of construction vehicles already there, too...

Yeah, they aren't wasting any time at all...
