New construction markings.

It doesn't make any sense either. There's nothing being stored in there. All the picnic tables are set up. The only thing I can figure is that they aren't seeing enough people using the tables and want to limit the "mess" to one area.

@Jason: Distinct possibility, we used the big picnic area Sunday, and there was more than enough room for everyone to spread out and enjoy lunch.

Agreeing with Jason here. I found it odd that the fence is still up not letting anyone in even though all the tables and trashcans are set up and have been set up since opening day. Jason's theory is probably right as to the closure.

Chaos has never been officially for sale.

Cedar Point's Chaos is available for sale, park spokesman Robin Innes confirmed to PointBuzz.

Not sure how I missed that last year. Oh well. I stand corrected.

For those who haven't seen it before. Here is the listing for Chaos

http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1267

It lists spare parts. I assume those are from the one that was at Michigan's Adventure.

I wonder how much they want for it. Assuming it's not too difficult to set up and down, I could picture it being a hot item at county fairs.

It's a park model, so it is made to be installed once and that's it. There is no moving it from week to week.

Is it possible to turn a park model into a portable model? I'm not familiar with the differences between a portable and traveling Chaos. Though I'm sure I have ridden both.

No.

In order to be portable, it needs to be trailer mounted. It would need a total re-fit, and that would cost a lot of money if it could even be done.

If you were a traveling carnival, you would just look for a used trailer mounted unit.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm guessing it's a lot easier to turn a portable model of any carnival ride into a permanent installation than the other way around.

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

1. Corral courtyard is in a great spot, by the beach, with trees and a good view of WT.

2. They should place ocean motion where DD was, and build a 500 foot, 10 looping, mega blast machine where OM was.

nahhhh, they may just build a unique flat or use the stadium space to expand a dark ride with decent theming there. Yes, the dark ride is close to DT, but it will be like a really neat unique version of pirate ride, with modern effects and a thrill factor to grab the attention of people of all ages, even teens to 20's thrill seekers. :)

As I understand it, the difference between the T/M Chaos and the P/M Chaos is the trailer. The park model has a steel frame underneath which is supposed to bolt to the foundation, but the frame is the same size and shape as the trailer of the portable model.

Over the years there has been a lot of business done by companies that would trailer mount non-trailer-mount rides, some doing a great job, others doing a not-so-great job. In this case, the obvious thing for a buyer to do would be to send the ride to Chance-Morgan and let them put a trailer under it. It wouldn't be a particularly difficult modification, especially for the original factory.

I would love it if they put a thrilling dark ride in next year, something with theming.

I'd love it MORE if they put another coaster in though...

I'm still clinging to Dick's promise that "we are going after the thrill seeker in 2011" as proof we are getting a major thrill ride (in the same category as Power Tower, SkyHawk, or MaXair) or a Coaster. Odds seem to be against a coaster that isn't like a ZacSpin at this point.

Dicks comment was a really bold statement to make.

Dick also said he was going to retire........just saying.

I am sure we will get something great next year, a coaster or thrill ride is the big question. I am thinking coaster IF these construction markers have anything to do with it. A thrill ride(aka twirl and hurl) can be plopped down almost anywhere with minimal prep work besides electrical.

Well, Skyhawk and maXair both had new electric run to their sites which required excavation. Not knowing where the electrical source is in this area and not knowing where it would be run, I wouldn't rule out a ride with a small footprint just because there is spray paint everywhere.

I have little doubt, entirely based on Dicks statement, that we are getting a major thrill ride or coaster. I would agree that it is much more likely to be a thrill ride, and not just because there are more thrills rides than roller coasters, but because of the tiny areas that are being questioned.

Having said that, it appeared he was saying it with a sense of pride. "Let me put it to you this way..." that's a very 'just-wait-and-see' type of comment.

:)

True...

But I already said that.

I don't see why they would have re -route sewers and water lines for a basic thrill ride.

Well, there went my hopes that Big Butter Jesus would be moved to the park. ;)

I agree that a dark ride would fill a niche, but I hope they aren't contemplating installing one at this location. One windowless shed that blocks the view of the beach is enough.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Who said they were relocating sewers and water lines. As has been said before, utilities need to be marked for safe excavation. Excavation could be performed for several reasons. Including running new utilities, foundations/footers or even as Dave suggested, extensive pavement work that could include the new paver bricks they've been using lately.
