New construction markings.

O.K. so Tony tweeted about his meeting that it was going to be "fun". Now he is blogging about let the "fun" begin. Add "fun" to the bullet points. Fun is really a broad brush but what does it have to do with history? Was there a funhouse near the beach at some point?

No coaster will ever be too fast or too tall!

The History of Fun:
Cedar Point Celebrates Its Past

Found this page on the CP website with a photo of a coaster(switchback)? Probably a stretch but it mentions the beach a great deal and seemed to go with the comments of history and fun. Any thoughts?

Dueling wooden coaster on the beach! That would kick serious butt!

Wasn't there an upside down fun house in this area of the park in the late 70's early 80's? I swear I remember being in one when I was a kid.

Yep.

There was an upside down funhouse in the area that now is home to wicked twister and giant wheel.

I remember going in it when I was a kid. I remember the upside down room, and the slides at the end.

The funhouse was replaced by kid arthers court, and kac was replaced by giant wheel and wicked twister.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well it's near Planet snoopy so besides the bronze statue that would fit there next to the Hellen Keller Plaque, Boo Blasters on Boo Hill would fit.

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

You can see where the fun house was on this 1969 map.

Speaking of the Helen Keller plaque it's kind of disappointing that the audio feature isn't working anymore, or at least it wasn't working a couple days ago when we pressed the button. The little bit of history presented in the audio clip (with a voice that most definitely sounds like John Hildebrandt's) is the kind of small touch that you don't find at Cedar Point nowadays. I hope it gets fixed soon.

"Thank the Phoenicians!"

it worked on July 8th.

We tried it on Friday (July 9th) a couple times and nothing happened. Perhaps it was an isolated incident then. Good to know it's still working.

Considering the millions of people that have been to the park over the years, it amazes me that there are so few photos online of some retired attractions.

I would enjoy seeing photos of the previously mentioned Funhouse, Cedar Classic Miniature Golf (I loved playing it), the Rotor, etc.

I actually voted for a new restaurant. I've been saying for years that a restaurant/bar on the beach would be a great way to round out the park by adding an after hours spot.

A Margaritaville would be a perfect fit.

'Images of America - Cedar Point' by David & Diane DeMali Francis is a great little book with hundreds of old photos going all the way back to the begining (but apparently only one of the Rotor).

It's not a vote of what you WANT, it's a vote of what you THINK they are going to get in 2011.

If it were a vote of what I personally wanted, I would've opted for the Hooters that was announced a couple years ago. ;)

I saw a very nice photo of the Upsidedown Fun House on eBay a few years ago. It was someone's personal photo. Not a Copy or a PR distribution. The negative may have even been part of the sale. I forget exactly how much it sold for. But, IIRC it was in the $60+ range. I wanted it. But, at the time I wasn't willing to pay that much for a photo.

Over the weekend I saw some markings I'd not seen before. Electric and gas located right in front of the games between Johnny Rockets and Space Spiral. These same lines were marked at the games side of Kiddy Kingdom. I didn't check to see if they extended to the Coliseum. If somebody already mentioned this, sorry for the repeat. I didn't see it posted, but I may have missed it.

The area from Max Air to the main midway currently has nothing but some trees. Of course there needs to be some space for Max Air to swing, but there is still plenty of room for something.

I would have no problem if they removed the stadium. I gave grown to really enjoy All Wheels Extreme, though it's normally not my cup of tea. Overall the stadium is only in use for about 2 months a year. A ride of some kind would be a better use of the land.

Remember, just because you're seeing markings all over the place doesn't mean 2011's whatever is going to take up even 1/4 of that area. Maverick, for example, had markings extending all the way over by Skyhawk's midway/area (sparking discussion of Antique Cars' inevitable demise at the time). Utility markings that preceded Skyhawk extended into CCMR's infield and beyond, if memory serves. So, while it's clear 2011's whatever is going somewhere in that area, it's difficult to use utility markings as an indicator of exactly where.

Just reporting what I saw and that there is room for something. I never said what, when or if anything would ever go there. Just clearing things up.
