I personally feel that while Tony isn't the person hyping it, he is at least helping to create some of the hype. He knows exactly what he is doing to us whenever he changes the facebook status. He may not be hyping it. But he continues to fuel the fire.
But that is simply a matter of how we interpret it all. Another simple difference of opinion.
Regardless, the lack of an advertised announcement date is proof enough to me that it isn't going to be something of epic proportions.

Thank you RaceRinger for clarifying your statements.
Alrighty, so detail-wise, is this thing gonna have an elevator lift? Seems like it would save a lot of space depending on what they want it to do. Also, do you think CP might pull a Steel Dragon 2000 on Holiday World?

I'm not saying this will be a ride of "epic proportions". But, the announcement date has no bearing on how big or small it will be.
Dragster wasn't announced until January 9th whereas something as like the 2004 Lighthouse Point improvements were announced on October 15th. Then you might say that small announcements are made soon and big ones are made late. Well, they announced Donut Time, Game Day Grill and Famous Dave's on February 5th and Maverick was announced on September 7th.
They will announce when they want to announce.

it's even a possibility that the ride won't be open in 2010 and that it will only be in construction then with it opening in 2011...
Really? CP is lying to the public? Yeah, that's a brilliant theory, Sherlock.
DJ I think the reason he said that, was because I threw that theory out there. The only thing that I was basing it off of was that the jug said "Brewin' 2010" and not "Coming 2010." Taken in the most literal of terms that could mean that it's being made in 2010 and coming 2011. It was only a wild guess though.

HypeCedar Point (namely Tony) isn't "hyping" anything. Only the people getting it all worked up in their heads that this will be some huge coaster are hyping.
Both words can in essence be used synonymously. Technically...marketing is hype...hype is marketing...some of you need to read a newspaper. Collectively its called a "hype machine"...the process of using marketing and hype to generate public interest. Companies use it...Politicians use it...Countries use it.

Jason, the point is that we know they're announcing the attraction around Labor Day, yet there has been no specific date, nor has there been any inkling of any media event regarding the announcement. At this point in the lead-up to the CW & KD announcements, those details were known.
It doesn't make sense that CF would neglect their flagship park with regard to the announcement, if next year's attraction were in the same league as the Intimidators.
Or, put simply, its not likely going to be a coaster, but rather something lower-key, such as a family friendly flume ride, for example.
Brandon
How does not having set a date for an announcement equal neglect?
Maybe they haven't set a date yet because they don't have all the details worked out yet. We don't know. They'll tell us when they want to. Or, they'll tell us when it's so obvious what they're doing, they might as well tell us, ala Maverick.
If anything they're creating more anticipation IMO.
The way they're going about this has no bearing on what the ride will or won't be. If they didn't care about what they were doing, they wouldn't have said anything and we wouldn't know anything other than that there are some flags around the midway opposite of the petting farm and that they cleared the island.
Does anyone even know the last time they sent out something this elaborate without it including the media invitation or announcement date?

So, they're just going to have an impromptu media event announcing the ride, and not invite the media until the last minute?
Brandon
I didn't say that.
Also, though it's pretty obvious the announcement will be on/around Labor day, they never came out and said that. Like I said, maybe they don't have all the details worked out yet. Labor day is still a week and a half away. Maybe the announcement will get pushed back. We just won't know until it happens.
But, I wouldn't call sending out custom made glass jugs with a teaser comic out to the media neglect. That couldn't have been a small expense.

I'm going to throw my guess in....I think it's going to be a combo flume/dark ride like something you would find in Florida...but not as heavily themed. (Construction would have started along time ago if they had to build a mountain)
That sounds cool. Seems like an intresting combo with the Pilgrims Plunge boats. I hope they can keep the themeing up.
Dude, Jason, they're neglecting the announcement as compared to CW's & KD's announcements. That's all I'm saying. They did a lot more for those announcements than they're doing for CP's, which leads me to believe it won't be an attraction of nearly the same magnitude.
Brandon
How elaborate were the announcements for Dragster, Maverick, Millennium Force, or anything else CP has built in the past 10 years or so? Maybe it's just me, but I don't remember a huge media event at the park for any of those...just a press release and tons of online coverage.

True, but with every new attraction, the marketing effort seems to increase.

Ok, enough you 2. I am sure that the media will receive another little gift with an invite before the announcement.
DJ I do understand what you are saying though.

Ha! I love reading all of the speculation before something new is announced. It makes everyone go crazy!.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this, but did anyone else notice that the "Li" in "Lightning" is a 13, when looked at upside down? I don't know if I'm overanalyzing or if this could be another clue.
It's so obvious. Lightning strykes twice......
I still think it's gonna be a flume ride with maybe a dark ride section. They could do something like the scooby doo dark ride at six flags St Louis. It is a dark ride/shooter/flume ride.
Here is what I am talking about...
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I have figured it out! Whyte Lightning is what Dale Earnhart will travel through from heaven(vortex) to give the announcement of the new ride. From there he will explain that he had a little too much moonshine before the race at Daytona coming around turn 4 with only a few laps to go. That explains the liquor jug and the the Whyte Lightning name. After finally gives us an explanation of what happened on turn 4 he will announce the new ride. It will be BBW and Drachen Fire from BGE and they will take down Iron Dragon and Corkscrew! DUH!!! Can't believe you guys didn't think of that before... and ladies(don't want to offend anyone)
