Has anyone else noticed that most of the grass under the first overbanked turn on MF island has been torn up. Also some dirt has been moved into piles on the island. This can be easily seen when riding the ride. Could this be part of construction for a future project that involves the use of the island? If part of a new coaster was to be put on this section of the island in the future it would have to be a low section of this new ride. Maybe this new coaster would weave in and out of some of MF's track. Just and idea because there is obviously something happening on the island. Keep an eye out and see if anything develops in this area of the park.
278 coasters and still counting!
hmmm....interesting. I'll be there this weekend. I'll check it out.

interesting. we will wait and see. but shouldnt this topic be under millennium force?
Come check out the videos at www.extremepki.com
No, it has nothing to do with MF, except its close to it. I am really wondering what could be happening... If we don't get a new coaster next year I will be very disappointed.
Why would it be disappointing if CP does not add a new coaster? Sure, a new coaster would be great, but there is already 16 of them in the park. I would much rather see a different attraction installed, following the new maXair.

They built up giant mounds of dirt on Millennium Island prior to Dragster's construction. It threw many people off because they thought that it was for construction or to cover up footers which made them believe that Dragster would share the island with MF. It turned out that they used the stockpile of dirt to damn up the lagoon so that they could drain the portion that Dragster now resides on. If the dirt's past use was any indication then we do have something to get excited about. Of course, it could be for something entirely different. Oh well...here's hoping!

I personally would love to see a giant top spin somewhere in the back of the park...take out Mean Streak's switchback's and put it in there maybe...? Anyways I'd rather wait another year and have an unbelievable coaster than get one next year that may be rushed.
I highly doubt that they would be rushing anything. If a new coaster is going to happen for the next season, they probably started planning it maybe 2-3 years ago.
Be satisfied with the new stuff in 2005. Jeez, we're raising our young'ens to never be satisfied...just like has been going on for decades.

All fo the dirt was around the footers of the ride, I figured it was just foundation work done on that turn. I don't know if its common for parks to sometimes fix the foundation of the rides, especially when the footers are as deep as they are on that ride, But it certainly didnt look like it was anything special.
Trust me, if they would had that kind of stuctural footer work, they wouldn't had been certified by the state to open the ride for the season.

I wasn't satisfied with only maXair, I have ridden every coaster at the park, and I would be disappointed if we didn't get a new one. I'm disappointed every year we don't get one.if we don't get one in 06, then in 07 it will have been 4 years since the last coaster. I can't handle that, I need more happening in the off season, a new coaster to look forward to. Yeah, I may be a typical young en whos not satisfied with a new coaster for 4 years, whats it to ya?

Drain the lagoon? What? No way! They can't do that. That's not possible. ;)

Well, Race for the Fry, it is something you're going to have to get used to. It looks to me that the major part of the coaster race/wars is about over. Parks are still installing, just not as often. PKI is already doing this and now CP is slowing down along with other parks. You'll just have to find something else to OCD about.
I have a feeling that 'Fry' would wither away to nothingness if he lived near any other amusement park in the world. There are some parks out there that havent built new rides in 5, 6, 7+ years. It's not the end of the world. It only seems an inconvenience because [we've all] been spoiled so much by CP, now the CP-loyal people expect other places to be so post-par with everything.
I agree with Grovite. Although a new coaster every other year is nice, I think amusement parks need to diversify a little bit in their new attractions. Like it or not, amusement parks need to rely on more than just hardcore thrillseekers to survive. They need to build attractions for families too.
I would personally like to see Cedar Point add a new themed dark ride or interactive ride. Something like Challenge of Tutankahmon or Curse of DarKastle would still draw huge crowds and would be more family friendly than say another giga-strata-mega-hypercoaster. Next year will be the 10th season without a dark ride since the closure of the Pirate ride. A new dark ride would add a major family attraction to the park.

*Cough* Michigan's Adventure *cough*
And it looks like it'll be at least another year or two before we see another major amusement attraction.

Disaster Transport is a dark ride, a bad dark ride, but a dark ride none the less

No, DT is definitely a coaster. Just because it's indoors doesn't make it a dark ride. What about Revenge of the Mummy at USF or Rock 'n Rollercoaster at Disney-MGM Studios? Do you call those dark rides because they're inside, even though they're undeniably roller-coasters? And let's not forget Flight of Fear at PKI, which is also indoors but is defined on the PKI website as a rollercoaster.
A dark ride, by definition, is something drastically different from an indoor roller-coaster. I would personally like to see CP pull off something along the lines of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, or Spider-Man at IOA. Those are defined as dark rides and are actually quite intense and thrilling.
