Mean Streak´s final year?

Now this is the dis Mean Streak, Iron Dragon, and Corkscrew thread?;) I don't understand some of the mentality of you young-uns here. I guess most of today's "enthusiasts" are a little spoiled having missed the 70's and 80's. I can see certain individuals not wanting to ride MS because it hurts them. But don't STEER your firsttime visitors away from certain rides because they're outdated. My 11-year-old cousin's comment on the brake run of Corkscrew was "That's it?" I then told her that Corkscrew was an amazing sight for those of us who were kids in '76 when it was built. I never even made it to Cedar Point until '03, but the awe was there seeing it up close for the first time. Even if I was one of the people who wouldn't ride MS because it hurt me too much, I'd still be in awe of its beauty. Is it me, or are today's "enthusiasts" more adrenaline junkies? I love riding Disaster Transport and Iron Dragon just as much as Millennium Force and Raptor. Are they as thrilling? No, but neither is Blue Streak. And more people would complain if Blue Streak was demolished than these other two. Or four, if you include Corkscrew and Mean Streak in rides at Cedar Point that are outdated and past their shelf-life. I would love to see another wooden coaster at Cedar Point, but not replacing Mean Streak.

Certainly noone would have ever said, "boy that Mean Steak sure is a smooth ride!".

I guess you´re right, gener...

Mean Treak is one of my fav rides at CP! sure it's rough, but a good woodie is meant to beat you up a bit.

I took a Britsh friend of mine on it last year, his first time with a woodie (coaster), and his were, and I quote "Bloddy Hell! Were you trying to kill me?" I could not help but laugh.

1) saying, "it is a ton smoother [than] what people make it out to be" is not saying that it is a smooth ride.

2) I wasn't looking to knock any ride in particular. I was making the point that location does not dictate ridership. People, enthusiast and non alike, find the rides they like and ride them whatever their reasons behind them. Overall my points have been that Mean Streak is a dissapointing ride (even boring) because of the trim breaking and people recognize that; even if the severe roughness issue has been mostly resolved at this time.

3)And while I am not old enough to remember the opening of the Corkscrew, I am older than it (if not by much). And i have to say that i do not require the tallest, fastest, adreneline filled rides. Blue Streak and Wildcat both fit into my top six for the park. My point on people knowing what to skip was a poor attempt to articulate that ride reputation and an individuals ride experience has a far greater impact on ridership for a coaster than the location.

So stop blaming the short lines of Mean Streak on its "poor location". Not that short lines are a bad thing. ;)

So saying "It´s a TON smoother than what people make it out to be" and "it´s the smoothest woodie I´ve ridden in a while" is NOT the same as saying it´s a smooth ride? ok then..... Well, MF is probably the roughest steelie I´ve ridden in a while, it´s a TON rougher than what people make it out to be..... but it´s not a rough ride, don´t misunderstand me ;)

I agree on pretty much the rest of your post, though...

eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!

Ride on, MrScott!

If CedarPoint got Intamin to retrack MeanStreak then I think that it would become a very smooth and just an overall better ride, and you wouldnt have a part in your body aching every time you got off of it. ;)

Why is everyone complaining? I just recently took a spin on MS and it is not rough. In fact, they've tamed it down so much, it's ruined the ride experience. In its first few years it was called Mean Streak for a reason. A large wooden coaster is supposed to be rough, that's the whole point! I'm sick of these threads about "when will they take down Mean Streak?" It's everyone's whining that has ruined the ride anyway. *** Edited 6/14/2006 8:16:54 PM UTC by DemonDroppin'***

Exactly! Great Point! I try to tell that to people I go with all the time. Wooden coasters aren't suppossed to be smooth like the steel coasters. The Beast is rough in spots, how come no one ever complains about that ride. Now I can understand the Son of Beast, I got off that and felt like someone hit me with something. I rode Mean Streak this and it didn't hurt me one bit. So I think Mean Streak should stick around.

38 more years.....i have 3 dollars on it.

Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.

That, part of being because of the trim breaks is why it's so tame. The last time I rode it I was like holy crap this is gonna be a long way down! And then I was in the front gettin ready to come off the lift and saw the trim breaks and I was like WTF?!? I wanted to jump right out of my seat to an untamely death for jumping on the ride.

Man the best part of the mean streak is the jerkyness!

I will never complain about how rough MS is again. I've been on it several times and this year it seems less of a butt bouncer in the first couple drops but even with that, I have always liked it enough to ride almost every visit. I went to geauga lake a few weeks ago for the 1st time in 20 years and we had a great time. However, Villain was the roughest ride I have ever been on. For the 1st time in my life, I actually feared that I would be injured on a coaster. My 1st ride was a bit rough but fun, rode 1st seat of train. 2nd ride was aweful! I road 1st seat of second car and this thing shook violently and the train almost felt as though it were going to come off the tracks. Another guy commented on how he sat in the same seat and had the same aweful experience. Villain is a great coaster, but I think some retracking and work on the ride is much needed. Maybe MS could be retracked and end up smooth like Raging Wolf Bobs is now. It reminded me of a mini MS and a lot of fun.

I though I was gonna fall of the track and die on MS lol. I was in thr front row by myself and the seat seemed like it was bouncing off the track. I was like "Please god just get me the hell off of this ride in one piece." lol

Jeff Young said:See, that's different. MF and Magnum are both good rides. :) Until you get to Holiday World, you may not understand. Maybe I'm just not that "cultured" in wooden roller coasters, but up until now, I didn't think it was possible to build a wooden coaster 160+ feet tall and have it actually be an enjoyable ride. No, I haven't been to Europe to ride any of the Intamin pre-fab coasters, or anywhere else that has them. All I know is that even if Mean Streak is running the best that it ever has, it will still pale in comparison to the Voyage, simply because of the "downtime" during the ride. There are many times during the Mean Streak that it just feels like you're just going along and doing nothing. This is not the case on the Voyage. The ride is relentless all the way through and does not stop until you get to the brakes. I really don't mind that much getting beat up on a wooden coaster, but I certainly don't want to be bored on a ride while doing so, like I have been many times on the Mean Streak. Then, it also seems like the times that I haven't been bored on the Mean Streak, I come off with more aches and pains then any wooden coaster I've ever ridden. Again, I don't mind being beat up, but I don't want to be beat up so much that I have to end my day at Cedar Point because I can barely move.

Did you ride Mean Streak prior to the trim breaks being installed on the 1st drop? that turn on the top of the 2nd hill is banked like that for a reason... you used to be pinned to the seat all the way around the top of the 2nd hill, and it haulled ass the whole ride!
having ridden it many times every year since it opened, I know it is a rougher ride now than it was when it opened... even with the trim break...
I also agree with others on here who have said beast and son of beast are a lot rougher...
I love mean streak, but I can see it either needing a large overhaul in the upcoming years, or perhaps they will just build something new...
look at son of beast...
wood structures can only take so much...
