To Hell with the new woodies, like El Toro and The Voyage - Airtime and ejector my a**! We already got a big woodie, we don´t need another!!

For me, the main problems with MS are (1) they had to stick trim brakes on the initial descent, and (b) said brake really doesn't improve the ride experience. First drop trim brakes are absolute sacrilege; they desecrate everything that follows. I remember the old days on the Beast, when it just felt like you were falling into that tiny little hole. Now it feels like you're being eased down. Same thing with Mantis. And with MS in particular, the reduction in velocity doesn't really make for a gentler ride, it seems to redistribute the roughness from the straights and onto the banked curves. I think there have been a few other posts about this. Anyway, I'm not an engineer -- although I did used to have lunch with Walt (Disney, that is) every week back in the seventies. Don't even get me started on that.

Anecdote: one time about four years back I unwisely got on MS with a bad back...the kind with shooting pains from the cocyx to the neck. By the end of the ride, I was 100% pain free. It was practically a miracle, like a chiropractic appointment on wheels. I wish all coaster rides could be like that.

Bottom line, MS has serious issues, but I don't see them yanking it out and putting in a steelie called Streak's Revenge or Son of Streak, etc. For better or worse, I think CP is stuck with this hulking, beautiful, monstrosity. And next time my back goes out, I'm getting on.

Wow, i always thought i was the only one who thought that MS was rough! The last time i was there about a couple of years ago i didn't even bother riding it from past riding experiences.I do agree that the coaster is a beautiful wooden coaster to look and marvel at but the ride does suck.As for tearing it down i really don't think that will be anywhere in the future. The ride is too young compared to the shelf life the Blue Streak.that was alot of work put in that ride to tear down thats only 15 years old.I'm a fan of steelies but i do think that they do need another great woodie there! Only two large ones don't get it.I don't even count Gemini as one cause of the steel track on wood.

I think Mean Streak will be around for quite awhile. Yeah, it's a pain in the wallet for them to maintain, but the sight of it at night, all lit up, is breathtaking. And it really is not a bad of a ride as some make it out to be. The best ride? No. But not as bad as some may say.

Check it out from Lighthouse Point at about midnight. It is BEAUTIFUL! (A few beers are recommended).

Here Here on the beers, it does suck though after a few of them standing in line of a ride and having to go to the bathroom. I wish they had them in the middle of the que lines

What do you think

Beers must be consumed with thought, drummerboy. Don't do the lines if you can't hold the pee.

Or bring a cup. ;)

but my bladder has no conscience LOL

I'm not a fan, but I think that Mean Streak has just as much to offer as Magnum. Though its a little rough, it has great hills and its a great adventure. I don't really know anything about times on other rides, but it seems like the wait and ride time ratio is great on the ride. Sure there are some bumps, but if you relax and go crazy on the ride, its just like any other.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

Yeah, it's a pain in the wallet for them to maintain

Gee, which costs more to maintain...MS or any of the three Intamins we have in the park??? ;)

MS won't go anywhere. DT, however, should be a package deal with Demon Drop...any takers? :)

Some people merely follow their dreams. Others hunt them down and mercilessly beat them into submission.

Was Mean Streak this rough when it first opened? I wonder if there is any way to modify or get new trains so the experience isn't so rough.

Mean Streak looks great back in that area. If the coaster ever went out of operation, I would leave it up just for its visual effect. :) And maybe put a restaurant underneath it. ;)

All my life I've been an obese man trapped inside a fat man's body

Rough is such a subjective thing. Certainly noone would have ever said, "boy that Mean Steak sure is a smooth ride!". But I think there is a big difference between a ride throwing you around a bit and jack-hammering at the bottom of a hill (like SoB, the Mean Streak not to long ago, my last ride on le Villian) or shaking the teeth out of your skull. The good thing IMO is that Mean Streak is mostly just boring anymore. They seemed to have eliminated much of the worst violence. Sure there are rough seats, but it has been ridable for a few seasons now.

I personnaly rode Mean Streak yesterday and have to say it is a ton smoother then what people make it out to be... It proabbly is the smoothest wooden coaster I have ridden in a while... Just my two cents here but I thought it was a smooth ride....

I rode mean streak today and it just is in a bad area to, who wants to walk all the way to the back of the park when the only other thing on the other side of the train tracks is Mean Streak. Maybe when the new ride is open, hopefully the queu line will be near by. But that area has alot of room for foot traffic, it just needs to be more of a circle instead of a dead end. But Mean Streak is a little of an adventure now that I rode it today, but still a good ride. I was shocked to notice that my cousin noticed the brakes on the first hill, usually we notice it but he actually mentioned it. What are they used for, I just excepted them.

Do any of you guys see Cedar Point add a wooden coaster within the next 3-6 years? Although Cedar Point is my favourite park because of the atmosphere and the rides, I really wish that they would add a worldclass woodie in the likes of The Voyage or El Toro for their next big ride. Steel coasters are great, but with the new golden age of woodies (Colossos, Balder, Voyage, El Toro, etc.) + the fact that Cedar Point´s last woodie was build 15 years ago, I would like to see Cedar Point build a huge Gravity Group or Intamin woodie/hybrid. (Did you know that The Voyage only costed $6,500,000 to build?).

I don't know that it would even have to be that big. I would be satisfied with a new woodie in the 90-100 foot range, if it was designed properly. Maybe a twister like Kentucky Rumbler or Lightning Racer. If it's got good laterals and airtime, who cares how tall it is? CP doesn't have to break a record every time they build, in my book.

Stayed in cabin 82 here, right next to mean streak, and yes at night is beautifull, it lights up the whole place.

Son of Beast isn't so bad anymore. No worse than Mean Streak. Plus you move the whole way down the first drop.

I think a ride like Roar at Six Flags Marine World would be a great addition to the park. It's not huge, is very cool to look at, intense but not rough, and it's the kind of ride where you never know what's coming next.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

Perhaps the Son has improved, it's been a little over a year for me. But I can't see the issue with Mean Streak being location. If that was the case Corkscrew and Dragin Iron should have among the highest numbers. And it just isn't the case. Think about it. What percentage of park guests don't go with someone who doesn't know the park to some degree. Just about everyone who goes to CP knows what rides to hit and what rides to skip.
