Mean Streak´s final year?

I always thought MS suffered from bad location. With the soon too be 2 new rides (2007,skyhawk) in that area, ridership should go up.

djDaemon, the reason to "fix" the engineering issues is to reduce the amount of maintenance needed and reducing the cost.

Of course my supposition is based on the assumption that the fix would cost less than the removal and rebuild of the ride. If it isn't then of course we will have to "live with it" unless the park is willing to remove it.

I will agree that location is an issue with the ride, but a good ride with a good reputation will draw the people. Non-coaster types generally don't like that ride from my experience. Sure some i know do like it, but not to many. Why is up for debate. But there are more reasons than just the ride's location to explain the lack of lines at MS most every day of the season.

I like MS for what it was. And i would rather see it run as the concept for the ride was designed.

I enjoy riding Mean Streak myself and to me it will stay a long time. I agree with the addition of Skyhawk and Project 2007, next year you'll start to see Mean Streaks Numbers go up. I think the location is fine where it's at, plus trying to build another woodie that would be longer in it's place would probably cut into the road that goes behind it. In this case they would have to move the road moree further which could probably cut into Camper Village and Lighthouse Point. Another thing and I know this really doesn't matter, but Mean Streak is the only real woodie that Cedar Point has, so removing it would only leave you Blue Streak, and that's been around 40 something years. Personally I think Mean Streak will be here for a long time.

Did you see the post that I made twice regarding this issue? In order to fix the problems, they would have to basically re-contstruct the whole structure. That's a lot of lumber. It would cost more to fix than to raze and remove.

Plus, I'd be shocked if any type of "fix" could significantly lower the cost of regular maintenance. The bottom line is that wood coasters require a lot of regular maintenance.

Eh, it might lower the costs a little bit. Mostly when it comes to the need for replacing track.

But even then, it will need to be done, just not as often. So I guess it would just delay the costs rather than lowering them.

My favorite types of wood coasters are like Gemini.;) Wood supports and tubular steel track. Smooth ride with the effect of headchoppers.

Gemini is not a wood coaster though, its a steel coaster, just happens to have wooden supports.

Gemini's a steel coaster.

Think of Gemini as a Magnum that's held up by wood instead of steel supports.

Echo... echoo... echooo.... ;)

Well, delaying a recurring cost is the same as lowering it. They'd replace it once every 10 years, as opposed to twice every 10 years - which would cut the replacement costs in half (example only).

Yeah, that's what I'm saying - but I'm sure the cost of the [re-build] would out-weigh the savings. If you ask me.

I agree. I mean, its not like CP is just sitting around, completely clueless about the situation. I'm sure this problem, and its solutions, have been analyzed over and over.

Brandon

calm down e x i t english. I saw the first dozen posts. The quote you posted was in response to the maintenance issue brought up by djDaemon. And the second half was to acknowledge that my theory could very well be flawed.

And can you really think that CP can't be clueless? They certainly have been on some issues.

Maybe just me - but I think "Son of the Beast" at Kings Island is worse than the Mean Streak. You need a chiropractor after that ride.

Wooden coasters abroad are supposed to be a little 'bumpy' that's the joy (?) in them :)

I don't see CP taking the Mean Streak out any time soon. -if they did, where would they put the Antique Cars? (smerk)

I definately agree that SoB is just painful... and boring now that i think of it.

Mean Streak has seemed to settle into a decent run for the last four years or so. Think how bad it was about eight years ago. Ouch.

id have to say...its a fun ride the firrst couple times..but after a while it gets to you..tomany bumps and stuff...idk...im 16 and i even think its kinda bumpy

Dismantling Mean Streak or not;

Do any of you guys see Cedar Point add a wooden coaster within the next 3-6 years? Although Cedar Point is my favourite park because of the atmosphere and the rides, I really wish that they would add a worldclass woodie in the likes of The Voyage or El Toro for their next big ride. Steel coasters are great, but with the new golden age of woodies (Colossos, Balder, Voyage, El Toro, etc.) + the fact that Cedar Point´s last woodie was build 15 years ago (and isn´t much to brag about, when it comes to ride experience), I would like to see Cedar Point build a huge Gravity Group or Intamin woodie/hybrid. (Did you know that The Voyage only costed $6,500,000 to build?).

Why is everyone complaining? I just recently took a spin on MS and it is not rough. In fact, they've tamed it down so much, it's ruined the ride experience. In its first few years it was called Mean Streak for a reason. A large wooden coaster is supposed to be rough, that's the whole point! I'm sick of these threads about "when will they take down Mean Streak?" It's everyone's whining that has ruined the ride anyway. *** Edited 6/14/2006 8:16:54 PM UTC by DemonDroppin'***

The Amazement Park

Everyone isn´t complaining. I´m just saying that we have a new golden age of woodies, and I would like to see Cedar Point add one of that class - ´cause they are NOTHING like Mean Streak. And if a large wooden coaster is SUPPOSED to be rough, I guess that explains all the bad reviews of El Toro, Balder and Voyage. But WHATEVER, some people like it rough (you), and some don´t(me). Some people like Mean Streak and some don´t. And it looks like YOU have a hard time accepting that. And I don´t care if they take it down or not, I think it´s a visually stunning woodie.
